Gongbihua is a traditional kind of Chinese painting. It’s famous for its careful and detailed (细节的) painting skills. Artists use thin brushes to draw fine lines, show patterns (图案), and add dark and light parts. The colors in gongbihua paintings are soft. Artists put thin colors one by one to make the paintings look bright and smooth (均匀的). Common themes include flowers, birds, animals, rivers and mountains.
Gongbihua has a long and rich history. It became popular during the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and reached its highest point in the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127). Recently, there was a gongbihua show at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. It came to an end on April 20th, 2025. The show brought together seven famous modern Chinese artists, such as Chen Mengxin, Jia Guangjian, and Liu Wanming. 70 or so amazing paintings were on show.

Jiang Xingda is a delivery (快递) man from Fujian Province. He has no left hand, but he works harder than anyone else. On April 30th, 2025, he became the first delivery worker in his province to get a big prize for young people.
After finishing university, Jiang chose to return to his hometown instead of working in big cities. He opened Daxi Town’s first delivery station. At first, people said, “He can’t send packages (包裹) with one hand.” But Jiang showed them he could.
Every day, he rode along mountain roads. During rainy days, he often fell over but never broke the packages. To protect those easily-broken packages, he invented “anti-shock packaging” (减震包装) to solve the problem. So far, his station has developed from 10 deliveries a day to over 2,000.
Though he is disabled, Jiang’s “hands” become tools of kindness. He drew red lines on the medicine boxes so that old villagers could get their medicine without mistakes. He also sold fruits of his hometown online. When there was something wrong with a villager’s car and it couldn’t move, he would help to carry things to go up the hill. “Wherever Jiang goes, good things will happen,” said a neighbor.
Today, Jiang wins trust from 5,000 villagers. “I’m disabled, but my heart and will (意志) are strong,” he says. His story tells us that true courage isn’t about perfection— it’s about using every tool to serve others.

In the autumn of 2023, many schools in China made an exciting change— they extended (延长) class breaks from 10 to 15 minutes, in order to give students more time for outdoor activities and exercise.
In the past, students didn't have enough time to go outside and play, especially those in tall school buildings. Now, the 15-minute breaks give students more time to enjoy fresh air and sunshine between classes.
Cities like Beijing, Tianjin, and Qingdao have already used this extended class break. The change is to make sure every student can get at least 30 minutes’ exercise at school each day. More importantly, schools don’t need to change their timetables much to make this happen.
Different cities are trying to explore creative ways to use this extended time. In Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, students enjoy 15-minute breaks and must have at least 100 minutes of exercise every day. In Qingdao, one primary school organizes fun activities, such as jump rope, hula hoop (呼啦圈) and games. Thanks to these changes, most of the students in Qingdao were in excellent or good health according to a report in December, 2024.
Education officials (官员) say the reason why they do this is simple— to give break time back to the students. With more time to play and exercise, students are becoming healthier and happier at school.

Though he is disabled Jiang’s “hands” become tools of kindness.
