Lesson 2
I. Teaching Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. ask and answer questions about holidays using correct sentence structures through listening;
2. summarize the conversation by filling the blanks;
3. describe holiday experiences using target languages
II. Teaching Key Points & Difficulties
Teaching Key Points:
1. Students learn to use interrogative sentences to discuss holidays;
2. Students learn to use indefinite pronouns to talk about holidays.
3.Students learn to talk about holidays in three aspects (where, what, feelings).
Teaching Difficulties:
1. Some students might find it challenging to complete the conversation and extract specific details while listening;
2. Students may need scaffolding to role play their own conversations.
III. Teaching Procedures
1. Warm-up (5 mins)
Activity: Holiday Word Storm
T shows pictures of holiday activities (hiking, festivals, beaches).
- Ask: What words come to mind when you see these?
- Write responses on the board (e.g., relaxing, delicious, tiring).
Purpose: Activate prior knowledge and introduce adjectives for feelings.
2. Pre-listening (8 mins)
Task 1: Vocabulary Preview
a.Students tick words describing their last holiday (eg: great, boring).
b.Pair Share: My holiday was… because I…
Task 2: Predict Content
Students look at the table (2b) and think:
What information will you listen for?
(Where? What? Feelings?).
3. While-Listening (12 mins)
Task 1: Listen & Complete Table (4)
Play the conversation twice. Students fill in Peter/Adam’s details:
Task 2: Gap-Fill Summary (5)
Listen again and complete the summary.
Support: Pause after key sentences for struggling students.
4. Post-Listening (15 mins)
Activity 1: Role-Play
a. In pairs, students practice the dialogue (2d) using their own holiday experiences.
b. Invite some pairs to act out the conversation.
Activity 2: Create new conversations
a.Students tick the words that can describe their own holidays.
b.In pairs, students practice the dialogue (2f) using their own holiday experiences.
Extension: Add questions (e.g., What was the best part?).
5. Summary (5 mins)
a.review the conversation in three aspects (where, what, feelings);
b.review some indefinite pronouns;
c.think abut the question: what was the best part of your holiday (family get-together, family love, family companion, friendship etc.)
IV. Homework
1. Read and remember the conversation (2a)
2. Complete the table (2b) for your own holiday.
