(杭州期中)①You may have already seen them in some restaurants around
the world: robots. They are about the size of a child. They can welcome people
and lead them to their tables. They can give food and drinks to the guests, and
bring dirty dishes back to the kitchen. Some have cat-like faces and even make
noises when you touched their heads. But are robot waiters the future?
Many people think robot waiters are the answer to worker shortage(短
缺). In some places, there are not enough workers. And robots can be used
instead of humans,so sales of robots have been growing in recent years. There
are tens of hundreds of them now moving through eating places all over the
world.
In Madison Heights,Michigan,Li Zhai was having trouble finding
workers for his restaurant Noodle Topia in the summer of 2021. So, he bought a
robot from Pudu Robotics. The robot was so successful that he bought two more.
Now,one robot leads guests to their seats while another brings some food to
tables. Zhai said he now needs three robots to do the same work that five or six
people used to do. And they save him money. I spend around $15,000 on a
robot, but $5,000 to $6,000 per month on a person,"he said.
But others say robot waiters still have a long way to go before they can
replace humans. They cannot take orders. And they cannot walk up steps to
different areas or floors of a restaurant. Restaurants are pretty noisy places,so
it's very hard to use technology in a useful and productive way, said Craig Le
Clair from the advising company Forrester.
Still, the use of robot waiters is growing. Califomia-based Bear Robotics
introduced its Servi Robots in 2021. The company expects to have 10,000
produced by the end of this year in 44 US states and overseas. In China,
Shenzhen-based Pudu Robotics, which was set up in 2016, has made more than
56,000 robots. With the development in AI, it won't be long before they become
part of our everyday life.
( )5. What does the writer want to explain by telling the story of Li Zhai?
A.It's expensive to buy a robot waiter.
B.Robot waiters help solve worker shortage.
C. Robot waiters are more useful than workers.
D. Finding workers in Michigan is not difficult.
( )6.What can we learn from the passage?
A.It's impossible for robots to replace human waiters.
B. Robot waiters can do all kinds of work in restaurants.
C.There have already been robots working in restaurants.
D. It is too expensive to use robot waiters in restaurants now.
( )7.What's the writer's atitude towards the future of robot waiters?

(广州期中)Travellers visiting the Great Wall
can now enjoy a modern dining experience. They
can receive their lunch delivered(配送)by air on
the Great Wall if they like.
Since 16 August,2024,drones(无人机)
have been delivering food to visitors at the Badaling
area of the Great Wall. The service is provided by Meituan.
Visitors scan a QR code(二维码)to get into the app. There are many
restaurants and shops at the foot of the Great Wall on the app. Then they can
order food and other goods, such as drinks and medicines. These things will be
delivered quickly in just about five minutes.
The drones can carry up to 2.3 kilograms every time, according to Meituan.
The delivery fee is just 4 yuan. The visitors can place orders from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m. Outside working hours, these drones will be used to carry rubbish to
recycling stations.
But the drones stillneed human help. As soon as a visitor places an order,
the app will receive it. Then a Meituan worker will pick it up from a nearby store
or restaurant. The delivery is then brought to the rooftop of the Badaling Hotel.
There it will be put into a box and tied to the drone. The drone then flies to a
certain watchtower with the delivery. Another worker is waiting there and
receives it. Finally, the visitor picks up his package at the watchtower, and
enjoys his wonderful meal.

(烟台期中)There's nothing more comfortable than a nice hot meal on a
cold winter day. But what if there is no restaurant around or you can't order a hot
meal? The Willcook,a microwave(微波)bag, solve the problem perfectly.
Willtex,a Japanese company, designed the Willcook. The microwave bag
looks just like any other computer bag. And there are several colours for people
to choose from. The bag itself weighs only 160 grams. There is also a
rechargeable battery pack(可再充电的电池组)inside the bag and it weighs 120
grams.
As the world's first microwave bag, the temperature of its inside can reach
80 in five minutes. People can set the temperature between 40℃ and 250
through an app called Hotopia on the phone. With the help of the battery pack,
the bag can keep food warm for as long as eight hours at a time. So the Willcook
is quite popular with office workers. With the Willcook, people are able to eat
hot food anywhere at anytime. The new technology provides people with a quick,
cheap and easy meal," a worker in Willtex says.

What makes it more special is that the bag can also keep drinks cool in
summer because of its material(材料). It's like a small fridge. People can carry
it with them when they go camping or have a picnic.
In fact, the microwave bag is not the first self-heating product(自发热产

help protect people against the cold. And professors at the University of Texas
have even designed self-heating bedding to help people fall asleep easily.

Today,AI robots are becoming more and more popular and important in
people's daily lives. These robots work in many areas to help people.
I’m a teaching robot. My job is to spend time with
children and teach them. I look like a human being
because I want to get close o children. I walk like a
human too. Tuming around and avoiding things that are in
the way are both easy for me. I can sing and dance. I know the needs of
children by hearing their words. At the same time I can teach them knowledge on
different subjects.
I'm a security robot. I protect humans from danger. I can
recognize strangers by face recognition and then call the police
when strangers break into a house. I always keep my eye on
smoke in the house and can let people know if there is a fire. If
the house catches fire,I can also help people put it out.
I′m a medical robot. People often use me in the operating
room. Because of my stable hands and robot eyes, I can show
some angles of view and can also move to some hard-to-get-to
places in the human body. I can help doctors work better during
operations.
41.Why does the teaching robot look like a human being?
42.Which sentence in the passage has the similar meaning to the following one?
When I hear the words from the children, I can know what they need.
43.What will a security robot do if strangers break into a house?
44.Which robot is the most important to you in your daily life? And why?Write
30 words or more.

My Dream Neighbourhood
Let me introduce my dream neighbourhood to you.
In my dream neighbourhood, the neighbours are very
friendly and always willing to help each other. There are all kinds
of shops like a bakery and a bookstore, making it convenient for
residents to buy daily necessities. The environment is clean and
comfortable, with plenty of green spaces and fresh air. The
transportation is also very convenient, with easy access to buses
and the subway. All of us get along with each other. Ilike living
in such a place. It is a place full of love.
This is my dream neighbourhood.Do you like it?

Last weekend, our school organized a visit to the Science
and Technology Museum.
There were lots of amazing inventions. Among so many
inventions,a robot that could draw pictures caught my eye. It
was smalland looked like a box with wheels and a robotic arm.
The robot worked by using sensors to detect shapes and colours,
then it used its arm to draw on paper. What made it special was
its ability to create art that looked like it was made by a human.
This invention amazed me because it showed how technology can
be creative.
This visit was really educational. And I have learned a lot
from it.
