Do you or a loved one have downheartedness? If so, you might know that treatments can help the condition. But what about ways to prevent it in the first place?
Though doctors don’t know that it’s possible to prevent downheartedness altogether, you may be able to keep it from coming back if you’ve already had an episode. Some therapists use an approach called mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT,正念认知疗法) to do that. MBCT combines cognitive therapy, which changes the way you think, with mindfulness. The goal of mindfulness is to focus on what’s going on in the present. The method aims to help people with downheartedness be aware of their negative thoughts and learn to change them.
Other psychotherapies, such as Interpersonal Therapy, which focuses on relationships, are also effective. Other ideas to prevent downheartedness involve medicine, lifestyle changes, and nutrition. Some studies have found that steps like these can reduce new episodes of downheartedness by 25% or more, but scientists need to do more research on these approaches.
If you do feel depressed, you can do a few things to keep it from getting worse
●Try ways to fight stress, like yoga.
●Spend time with family and friends. Think about joining a support group. Do things that keep you connected to others
●Know yourself. Pay attention to the things that seem to make your symptoms worse. Keep notes and tell your doctor or therapist about it.
●Don’t make big life decisions on a day when you’re feeling down.
21. How does MBCT work in keeping downheartedness from coming back?
A. It focuses on the present circumstances.
B. It finds downheartedness in the first place.
C. It makes people realize harmful ideas and change.
D. It keeps downheartedness from involving medicine.
22. How does Interpersonal Therapy function?
A. By knowing yourself.
B. By improving relationship.
C. By making life decisions.
D. By changing your lifestyle.
23. What aspect of downheartedness does the text focus on?
A. Its types. B. Its concept.
C. Its causes D. Its prevention.

One sunny Monday, I decided to go for a walk. There is a beautiful dirt track near my house that runs along a river for about 2km. On my finger was a very special ring: I’d only just picked it up from the jeweller’s the day before because I’d had it designed to hold a diamond given to me by my grandmother for my 21st birthday.
I looked down at my ring as I began my walk, feeling as sunny as the day. Imagine my sadness when I looked again at the end of the track and saw a gaping hole in the setting where the diamond should have been. It was missing.
Panicked, I started back along the path, looking frantically for the stone. In my heart, I knew how hopeless my search was. The track was long, stony and covered with leaves and debris (碎片).
As I scanned the ground, crying and extremely worried, I met an older gentleman out for a walk. “What’s the matter, love?” he asked kindly. “Lost something?” I explained about the missing diamond and showed him the hole in my ring, He whistled.
“That’s hard to find. Tell you what, love, I walk along this track every day, I’ll keep my eyes open for it.” I thanked him, expecting nothing, but told him my husband often walks our dogs along the path if he ever found something.
A few days later, my husband met the older man on the path. “Guess what?” he said. “I found your diamond!”
Unbelievably, he’d found the tiny stone and was delighted to hand the diamond back to my husband, saying casually.
“Lucky I found it — I only have 50 percent vision in one eye.”
When my husband offered him money for his trouble, he refused it. He could have easily kept the diamond, or sold it, as it’s worth several thousand dollars, but, thanks to this man, I’ll spend the rest of my days trying to do something equally significant for another person. And if I’m ever worried about the state of the human race, all I have to do is look at my ring and remind myself that there are still kind and generous souls out there.
24. What can best describe the old man?

C. Careful and brave. D. Patient and modest.
25. What does the underlined word “frantically” in paragraph 3 probably mean?

26. What can we learn about the diamond?
A. The owner bought it in the jeweller’s. B. It had many different holes in the setting.
C. The old man found it with poor eyesight. D. The owner’s husband paid to regain it.
27. What section of a magazine does this text probably come from?

Flying roast chickens, hot coffee, milk, and bread will drop from the air into Queensland backyards in a world-first drone delivery trial expected to start within weeks.
A company called Wing made public its new Australian drone service, extending its reach from an early trial in Canberra, making Australia the first country in the world to use home delivery drones in two areas.
James Ryan Burgess, the company’s CEO, said the drone services were likely to extend into more areas in the future, with the country picked as a testbed for drone services worldwide.
Wing’s latest drone project will see “tens of drones” deliver goods to houses in Queensland. In its Early Flyer program, people would be able to order a number of goods, with drone delivery offered free and within just minutes of placing an order. Its Canberra record for preparing and delivering a coffee stood at just three minutes.
Mr. Burgess said the company chose Queensland’s Logan area because of its growing population and a large number of young families. But he said Wing would take to the skies in other parts of Australia in the future as many Australians wanted to try the technology and safety regulators were open to testing it.
“This will be the most modern drone delivery service in Australia but it’s also the best in the world,” he said. “Australia will always have our most modern drone technology, and we will take what we learn in Australia and use it around the world.”
Wing delivery drones commonly fly at a height of 60m, Mr. Burgess said, could carry up to 1.5kg of goods, and lower packages to areas in front or backyards.
Civil Aviation Safety Authority spokesman Peter Gibson said he hoped the regulator would allow Wing to fly its drones in Logan shortly, as the company had already shown its technology was safe in Canberra trials over the past two years.
28. Why did Wing choose Queensland’s Logan area?
A There are many backyards there.
B. People are open to drone delivery.
C. An increasing number of young people live there.
D. The population of Logan is larger than that of others.
29. What can we infer about drone delivery service?
A. It is efficient and safe in Logan.
B. The weight of delivered goods is limited.
C. Wing has extended the service into many areas.
D. It is the most modern drone delivery service in the world.
30. What do Peter Gibson’s words in the last paragraph show?
A. His expectation. B. His prediction. C. His Humor. D. His concern.
31. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Early Trial of Drone Delivery B. The Development of Drone Delivery
C. Drones are the Future of Food Delivery D. Lunch and Coffee Orders can Fly in the Sky
D
The moon may hold frozen water in more places and in larger quantities than previously suspected. And for the first time, the presence of water on the moon’s sunlit surface has been confirmed, scientists reported. That’s good news for astronauts at future lunar bases who could tap into these resources for drinking and making rocket fuel.
More than 40,000 square kilometers of lunar surface have the capability to trap water in the form of ice, according to a team led by the University of Colorado’s Paul Hayne. That’s 20% more area than previous estimates, he said. These latest findings expand the possible landing spots for robots and astronauts.
The presence of water in sunlit surfaces had been previously suggested, but not confirmed. The molecules (分子) are so far apart that they are in neither liquid nor solid form, said lead researcher Casey Honniball of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. And NASA’s astrophysics director Paul Hertz said it’s too soon to know whether this water — found in and around the southern hemisphere’s sunlit Clavius Crater — would be accessible.
As for the shadowed areas believed to be rich in frozen water near the moon’s north and south poles, temperatures are so low that they could hold onto the water for millions or even billions of years. These so-called cold traps get down to minus 163 degrees Celsius.
Using data from NASA, the researchers identified the size of cold traps and used computer models to get all the way down to micrometers in size. Since the little ones are too small to see from orbit, despite being vastly more numerous, we can’t yet identify ice inside them,” Hayne said, “Once we’re on the surface, we will do that experiment.”
Scientists believe all this water on the moon came from comets, asteroids (小行星), interplanetary dust, the solar wind or even lunar volcanic eruptions. They’ll have a better idea of the sources “if we can get down on the surface and analyze samples of the ice,” Hayne said.
32. What can be inferred from the text?
A. Water is extremely crucial for space exploration.
B. Researchers identified cold traps using computers.
C. Scientists knew well the sources of water on the moon.
D. Cold traps are found in and around the southern hemisphere.
33. What do we know from paragraphs 3 and 4?
A. The presence of water hasn’t been confirmed.
B. Shadowed areas are abundant in frozen water.
C. Water can be easy to obtain on the moon soon.
D Water molecules on the moon are closely connected.
34. What does the underlined word “them” in paragraph 5 refer to?
A. Data. B. Sunlit surfaces.
C. Cold traps. D. Computer models
35. What is the main idea of the text?
A. The sources of water on the moon.
B. Water ice is widespread on the moon.
C. Good news for astronauts at lunar bases.
D. Moon holds more water than ever thought.

What if we take a closer look at the food chains in a garden? ____36____ Or how, as we put it in another way, everything gardens.
I began by looking at which larger predatory (捕食性的) creatures are in my garden. Some predators are at the tops of the food chains. Others, of course, can be both predators and prey (猎物). ____37____
Working out the place occupied by various wildlife in my garden comes next. With most creatures in the garden, including common pests (有害动物), the key to successfully living with them and preventing population explosions lies in understanding what they eat and what eats them, that is, their place within garden food chains. We also need to understand that there will never be just one food chain in operation. ____38____ Just think of the number of different things that will eat different insect species.
Looking at who is eating what, when, and where in our gardens can help us not only understand our gardens better but also get them to function better and find our own place as a gardener within the systems. ____39____ While these creatures are sometimes considered pests, they are extremely beneficial to keep the ecosystem in balance.
Seeing connections with an open mind can help a gardener understand nothing in the world works on its own. ____40____
A. Why should we work out what eats what in a garden?
B. The interdependence between garden creatures is limited.
C. Different creatures will compete over various forms of prey.
D. We should always let nature do some of the gardening as well.
E. Moles, for example, eat earthworms and are sometimes eaten by foxes.
F. We may begin to truly understand how every creature shapes its environment.
G. For example, tracing the food chains in my garden, I let field mice inhabit the space.

One rainy November afternoon I had a quarrel with my Dad about his poor housework. I knew if I didn’t leave the house soon I would unleash (发泄) a storm of anger on him.
“I’m taking you to school.” Dad said, as rain came down in sheets and lightning flashed in the sky. “You are not used to driving in this kind of weather.” he continued, reaching for his boots. “I have been driving that route for many years. I can drive it today.” With these words, I struggled into my jacket, grabbed my bag and stormed out of the house.
“Don’t take the shortcut, Donna!” Dad shouted after me, throwing through the car window a big pack of sandwiches.
Dad had been working as a building worker when a heart attack last spring forced him to leave his job earlier than he had planned. Dad began to stay home and took over the household chores. As the medical bills mounted I realized I would have to work part-time after my school day to make ends meet.
The new arrangement was a disaster for me. Exhausted after a day of dealing with my academic routine and food delivery, all I wanted was a hot home-cooked meal and a good night’s sleep. During the months that followed, Dad’s cooking somehow was getting worse. We dined on smelly baked potatoes and, of course, hard egg sandwiches. I would remember the time Dad had eaten every piece of potatoes on his plate and complimented (恭维) the dinner though I discovered later how he disliked it. So I wouldn’t say anything to him, even about the endless sandwiches. It was much harder for me to hold my peace after Dad served such meals for the third night in a row.
As far as I was concerned, things couldn’t get much worse. So that rainy morning when I found my blue skirt badly folded, I could only burst out. I had had it!
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Ten minutes later ignoring Dad’s warning about not taking the shortcut, I turned off the main route.

M: Have you come across any challenges?
W: Quite often, in fact. We`ve had problems with sound or vision, or even both. And we have to try communication by text. There is also no guarantee that the Internet will always work. In some areas there are shortages of proper equipment.
M: Now Gigi, some of our viewers posted questions for you on our website. It seems quite a few of them are looking to join your project.
W: Really? Well, I’d like to say “welcome aboard” to them all.

C 22. B 23. D

A. Rich and generous. B. Kind and honest.
C. Careful and brave. D. Patient and modest.
25 What does the underlined word “frantically” in paragraph 3 probably mean?

A. There are many backyards there.
C 29. B 30. A 31.

D. Water molecules on the moon are closely connected.
A 33. B 34. C 35. D

根据第四段“As for the shadowed areas believed to be rich in frozen water near the moon’s north and south poles(至于月球南北极附近被认为是富含冰冻水的阴影区域)”可知,阴影区域富含冰冻水,故选B项。
根据第五段“Since the little ones are too small to see from orbit, despite being vastly more numerous, we can’t yet identify ice inside them(由于这些小的(冷阱)从轨道上太小而看不见,尽管数量要多得多,但我们还无法识别它们内部的冰)”可知,“them”指代上文提到的“Cold traps(冷阱)”,即现在还无法识别冷阱内部的冰。
通读全文,冰根据第一段“The moon may hold frozen water in more places and in larger quantities than previously suspected.(月球上可能在更多地方存在比之前认为更多数量的冰冻水)”可知,所以文章主要讲月球上的水比以往认为的更多,故选D项。

故填without。
故填that。
根据require sth./sb. to do sth. 故填to be removed。
as a general rule是固定短语,意为“一般来说”,所以此处用介词as。故填as。
故填the。
prevent sb./sth. (from) doing sth.

注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Ten minutes later, ignoring Dad’s warning about not taking the shortcut, I turned off the main route.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Helpless and hungry, I was in a state of desperation.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Ten minutes later, ignoring Dad’s warning about not taking the shortcut, I turned off the main route. I hoped it didn’t rain enough to flood the road but my wheels were nearly in the water as I drove along. It was raining increasingly heavily with lightning flashing nonstop. I felt a bit scared, attempting to drive backwards but in vain. Gradually, the road ahead was totally covered and turned into a running stream. The last straw was when my car was power-off all of a sudden. I got completely stuck as it grew darker and darker.
Helpless and hungry, I was in a state of desperation. The sight of the smelly sandwiches that Dad baked today gave me hope for the best. I grabbed them and swallowed to fill my empty stomach, refreshed and grateful. “Donna!” Oh, it was Dad, wet through. “I’m throwing a rope,” he yelled. “Hang on to it and walk towards me”. Opening the car door, I grabbed the rope and inched out. “Be careful!” Dad said quietly. “I got you Dad!” I hugged him, tears in my eyes.
