Slapstick humour is very physical. It involves(包含) characters falling down, hitting people or crashing into things. This type of comedy is very common in cartoons such as Tom and Jerry,Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.Typical comedians, such as Laurel and Hardy(from The Three Stooges),Charlie Chaplin,Rowan Atkinson are people's favourites.

Toilet humour often focuses on the noises and functions of the body. It's often viewed as rude, impolite and childish, although many people find it very funny. There's a hilarious(可笑的) scene involving toilet humour in the film Along Came Polly.Reuben(Ben Stiller) is invited back to Polly's (Jennifer Aniston)apartment. After dinner,Reuben accidentally blocks the toilet. In an attempt to unblock it,he uses her handembroidered towel(a gift from her grandmother) and an expensive loofah(丝瓜络).Eventually, the toilet overflows, leaving Reuben with no option but to leave.

You've probably heard the saying,“Laughter is the best medicine.” Comedy on Referral has taken that idea and run with it,using standup comedy to help treat people struggling with depression and anxiety in partnership with the NHS.
The idea stemmed from comedian Angie Belcher's experiences of teaching comedy at Bristol University. She found that students often told her how much stronger and more resilient(恢复力强的) they were thanks to standup comedy.
Inspired, she teamed up with the NHS in Bristol to create a sixweek comedy course for patients struggling with depression in January 2022.Following the success of this initial course,Comedy on Referral won NHS funding to help men at risk of killing themselves in London.
Belcher will work alongside psychologists and men who have experienced selfkilling events to use comedy as a form of therapy(疗法).
Talking to The Bristol Post,Belcher said,“Past depressions are perfect for comedy.Comedy doesn't come from the happy, perfect moments of your life, but from our everyday struggles and major life events.People who've been through big life experiences such as the death of a close relation and ill health often can't wait to tell me their story, mostly because there's always something strangely funny about the situation.”
Research has shown that laughter has positive psychological effects, such as decreasing levels of cortisol(the stress hormone) and increasing endorphins(chemicals making you feel relaxed).
It can even have physiological benefits, although less research has been done in this area.Current research has linked laughter and humour with increased levels of pain tolerance as well as shortterm cardiovascular(心血管的) benefits.More research is needed to prove these findings.
Nonetheless, the mental health benefits of regular laughter are widely accepted, and using comedy to treat mental health struggles could be a real breakthrough in the treatment of mental health.

People use laughter to connect and bond with others. It's how we tell friends that we find their jokes funny,or how kids in a park show that they are having fun.Laughter is so important to humans, even if they belong to different cultures or speak different languages. What about animals?Scientists are studying if there is a connection between animals' laughing and playing.
Sasha Winkler, from the University of California,Los Angeles(UCLA),studies biological anthropology(生物人类学),including the study of animal behavior. She noticed that the small monkeys she worked with, liked to play together by chasing each other. While having fun together, they made panting(喘气) sounds, almost like they were out of breath, which reminded Winkler of their quiet laughter. This made Winkler wonder whether other animals did so while they were playing.
To find out whether other animals laugh and play,Winkler teamed up with another scientist named Greg Bryant,a professor and vice chair in the Department of Communication at UCLA.Together, they found and read dozens of reports written by other scientists who study animals.Winkler and Bryant looked for any mention in any animal of sound signaling like the panting of the monkeys during their playing.
In April 2021,Winkler and Bryant published their findings in a science journal.Through their research, they identified 65 species or groups of animals, which laugh while playing. The animals that laugh the most include primates(灵长类) like monkeys and apes, rodents(啮齿动物) like rats, and mammals that live in the ocean like dolphins.Their work will not only help us understand animals better but it could also help us understand how humans develop or change over time.Next, they will carry on more study to find more.

Just like happiness and sadness, anxiety is part of everyone's lived experience—but it's not always tolerated as such.“People often spend too much time and effort trying to rid anxiety,” says Dr Joel Minden,a clinical psychologist.“I encourage them to remember that anxiety is a normal emotional response.”
If you try to banish anxiety, all you're doing is putting it more at the forefront of your mind. But if you accept anxiety as part of life, you can learn to relate to it with selfpity or even with humour. This is a cornerstone of acceptance and commitment therapy(ACT),which has been gaining clinical validation, including by the American Psychological Association.ACT guides people to see their unpleasant emotions as just feelings and to accept that parts of life are hard.Sufferers are encouraged to begin a dialogue with anxious thoughts, examining their causes while also keeping in mind their personal goals and values.
This way of relating to anxiety has been a powerful strategy for John Bateman, the 52yearold host of the podcast Our Anxiety Stories. When negative thoughts arise,he acknowledges them but doesn't let them drive his decisions.Over the years,Bateman has noticed that if he submits to his thoughts, they don't go away but dramatically increase. But if he recognizes them for what they are, just a passing thought and not a fact that needs to be acted on,they gradually go away.
Learning to live with anxiety is an individual process and one that requires trial and error to get just right. While acceptance is the first and most important step to take, some lifestyle changes have been proven to take the edge off,as well.Since tiredness, increased tension and stress leave us much easier to fall into anxiety,a wellbalanced diet, sufficient rest and, especially, regular exercise can help us manage it better.
12.What may Dr Joel Minden agree about anxiety?
A.It is often improperly treated.
B.It should be seriously taken.
C.It is easilyearned experience.
D.It goes hand in hand with joy.
13.What does the underlined word “banish” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Identify. B.Hide.
C.Control. D.Overlook.
14.Why does the author mention John Bateman in Paragraph 3?
A.To explain a strategy.
B.To describe a phenomenon.
C.To introduce a public figure.
D.To present a successful case.
15.What is suggested to cope with anxiety in the last paragraph?
A.Concentrating on the process.
B.Making lifestyle adjustments.
C.Avoiding exposure to pressure.
D.Learning to get things in place.

Neha's school hours were in the morning,so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Jatin. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon.Although he ran as fast as he could,Jatin often arrived late and was warned by the school.A long distance race was going to be held for the boys in the city. When Jatin learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes,he decided to take part.He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes.
The day of race arrived.Jatin had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache.Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Neha and his promise to her.Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength, and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners, determined to finish third.Suddenly,as the finish line drew near, another runner collided(碰撞) with Jatin from behind and Jatin crashed to the ground.
