By the time Joy Ryan,a US grandma, turned 85,she had never seen the ocean or mountains. For Joy,trips to the local fishing area with her husband were about the farthest place she had ever gone, even if she loved watching the Travel Channel.
But one day Joy's grandson,Brad Ryan, discovered that he and his grandma had a common interest in their love for traveling, when they began to visit the American great outdoors together.
Brad said,“When I learned my grandma had never seen the great wildernesses of America—deserts, mountains and oceans,I thought there was something I needed to do.” It was after taking his grandma out of Ohio on a visit to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park that he came up with the idea of visiting all the 63 US national parks with her to create inspiring memories.

It's late evening in the middle of the winter. The snow is deep, but off I go into the wild.Suddenly,I hear it:the howl(嚎叫) of wolves.Excitedly,I walk faster in the direction of the howling.
I've been working as a volunteer wolf tracker in Yellowstone National Park for over a year. It's my job to follow wolves to record information about them.Like wolves, however,I don't work alone.I'm one of a team of people who have been in a project to help reintroduce wolves to the park.
Humans have always feared wolves. From fairy tales to movies, the wolf is always the bad guy—a danger to humans and other animals. In the 1920s,the organizers of the park shared this view about wolves and made the decision to drive them away from the park.As a result, the number of elk(麋鹿) in the park increased. The elk started looking for food near river banks since they didn't have to worry about wolves. This,in turn, stopped trees from growing along the rivers, doing great harm to the environment there.
The return of wolves has already made a big difference. To begin with, the elk soon learned to stay away from the rivers,so new trees have been able to grow there. The trees become home to new wildlife, such as birds, and provide food for more animals.
The park is now becoming more and more popular with those who want to see wolves in their natural environment. It has also helped the local people make more money.Tourists visit the area, stay in the local hotels, and eat in the local restaurants.
Looking at the wild animals and the beautiful sceneries around me,I am amazed at the changes the wolf has made to Yellowstone.And_happily,it_is_playing_a_good_guy_in_this_story.
8.According to the passage, which of the following is one of a wolf tracker's jobs?
A.To catch wolves in the park.
B.To feed wolves in the wild.
C.To stop wolves from killing elk.
D.To collect information about wolves.
9.Why did the organizers drive the wolves away from the park in the 1920s?
A.The wolves were always howling at night.
B.The elk in the park were in danger of dying out.
C.The wolves had done great harm to the environment.
D.The park was thought to be unsafe with wolves around.
10.Paragraph 4 and Paragraph 5 are mainly about the ________ that wolves have brought to Yellowstone.
A.risks B.troubles
C.changes D.competitions
11.What does the writer mean by the underlined sentence in the last paragraph?
A.Wolves are important to Yellowstone.
B.Yellowstone has been home to wolves.
C.The wolf and the elk live in peace now.
D.The number of wolves is growing fast.
根据第二段中的“It's my job to follow wolves to record information about them.”
根据第三段中的“Humans have always feared wolves. From fairy tales to movies, the wolf is always the bad guy—a danger to humans and other animals.”
根据第四段中的“The return of wolves has already made a big difference.”和第五段“The park is now becoming more and more popular ...and eat in the local restaurants.”
根据最后一段“...I am amazed at the changes the wolf has made to Yellowstone.And_happily,it_is_playing_a_good_guy_in_this_story.” 故选A。

(2025·合肥高二检测)While temperatures continue to climb, visitors are still coming to see Death Valley National Park on the CaliforniaNevada border. The park is known as the hottest place on Earth. This past weekend, the temperatures climbed to 53.33 ℃.Most visitors at this time of year make it only a short distance to any area in the park before returning to the cool air in their vehicles.
Early information from the park service shows that across the nation's 424 national parks,at least four people have died this year from heatrelated causes. That includes a 65yearold man from San Diego who was found dead at Death Valley earlier this month.
Death Valley National Park suggests visitors be careful and not have expectations of rescue. While park rangers(护林员) drive on park roads and can aid tourists in need,it is unsure that lost visitors will get help in time.
Physical activity can make the heat feel even worse and leave people exhausted.Alessia Dempster, who was visiting from Edinburgh,Scotland, said,“It's very hot especially when there's a gentle wind. You would think maybe that would give you some slight relief from the heat, but it just really does feel like an air blow dryer just going back in your face.”
Death Valley is a narrow area that is below sea level and surrounded by high mountains, the park service's website says. The dry air and small plant coverage let sunlight heat up the park surface. The heat then becomes trapped in the valley.
Still, several areas in Death Valley continue to draw tourists.Badwater Basin, made up of salt flats,is considered the lowest point in all of North America. The 183meter Ubehebe Crater dates back over 2,000 years. And Zabriskie Point is a great sunrise viewing spot.
Josh Miller,a visitor from Indianapolis who has been to 20 national parks so far, shared that feeling.“It's hot,but the scenery is awesome,” he said.
12.What do most visitors do in Death Valley?
A.Cool themselves in time.
B.Do lots of physical exercises.
C.Stay away from park rangers.
D.Carry dryers with themselves.
13.Why does the author mention the 65yearold man in Paragraph 2?
A.To encourage the elderly to travel more.
B.To express admiration for mountain climbers.
C.To advise people to tour Death Valley more often.
D.To show the danger of traveling in Death Valley.
14.What does Paragraph 5 mainly tell us about Death Valley?
A.Its covering area.
B.Its attractive spots.
C.The reason why it is so hot.
D.The service of its park's website.
15.What can be inferred about Death Valley from the last two paragraphs?
A.It has a short history.
B.It is worth visiting.
C.It draws fewer and fewer tourists.
D.It is unsuitable for viewing sunrise.
根据第一段中的“The park is known as the hottest place ...before returning to the cool air in their vehicles.” 故选A。
根据倒数第二段中的“Still, several areas in Death Valley continue to draw tourists.”以及最后一段中的“It's hot,but the scenery is awesome”可推断,Death Valley是一个值得游玩的地方。

16.D [解析]上文“The national parks in the United States and Canada center on the protection of both land and wildlife.” 说明了美国和加拿大的国家公园的保护对象,结合下文“And those in Africa primarily protect animals.”
17.G [解析]上文“It is widely thought that the idea of a park or nature reserve under state ownership started in the United States in 1870.”
18.F [解析]上文“And the U.S.National Park Service(NPS) was created in 1916 to manage the parks.”
19.A [解析]上文“Partly following the American example, movements supporting national parks sprang up in many other countries.” 承接上文,These movements指代上文中的movements supporting national parks,上下文语意连贯,且与下文Canada set up呼应。故选A。
20.E [解析]根据下文“But interest in parks came later in Asia and Latin America than it did in the AngloAmerican countries and Europe.” 空前一句“Great Britain established the administrative machinery for both national parks and nature reserves in 1949.”

21.C [解析]结合前文“The lions and leopards of a national park in India normally do not get along.”
22.A [解析]根据第二段中的“She treated him as if he were one of her own two sons, who were about the same age.” 故选A。
24.D [解析]结合后文and caring for him until he died可知,母狮子给小豹喂食、照顾它直到它死去。故选D。
25.C [解析]结合后文case of crossspecies adoption in the wild可知,这是一个罕见的野生跨物种领养。故选C。
26.A [解析]结合第一段中的“The lions and leopards of a national park in India normally do not get along.” 故选A。
27.D [解析]结合后文“the park workers thought the association would be brief, but this went on”可知,起初公园工作人员认为这种联系会很简短,但它持续下去了。
故选A。
The lioness took care of the baby可知,母狮子给小豹分享自己猎取到的肉。故选B。
30.C [解析]结合前文“The new brothers played with him and occasionally followed him up trees.”
31.A [解析]结合后文the lions and the leopard played and begged for milk in similar ways可知,狮子和豹以相似的方式玩耍和乞求牛奶,即这两个物种之间存在一定的相似性。故选A。
33.B [解析]结合后文“the baby's more leopardlike features—his smell,size and spotted appearance”可知,母狮子收养小豹是因为它忽略了小豹的豹子特征。
35.D [解析]结合第二段中的“This was a __25__ case of crossspecies adoption in the wild”可知,跨物种领养本来就是个罕见的案例,所以对于科学家来说,野生动物间跨物种领养是很奇怪的。

故填which。
故填was frightened。
故填it。
