A lot of businesses are started by people who have hobbies or special talents and want to turn these interests into a business. But switching from a hobby to a real business requires business knowhow and investments, which stops many people. However,an increasing number of ambitious business owners have found a way to take a first step. They are taking their dreams and talents on the road—in vans and lorries, and even horse trucks.
Beginning on a small scale has its advantages, the most important of which is the relatively modest size of startup costs. These costs, which consist primarily of,the vehicle and any required equipment, usually come to about only £5,000£10,000.With such tightly controlled costs, mobile businesses often break even in a year or two; in contrast, success comes to brickandmortar businesses much more slowly, and they often fail within the first two years. In short, mobile businesses are relatively lowrisk.
The first entrepreneurs(企业家) to do this have been in the food business. The mobile food vendor trend in the US and Europe has spread to other parts of the globe. The success of these street food vans has inspired other entrepreneurs to consider starting out on wheels.
UK entrepreneurs could take inspiration from the US where, today, there are vehicles that sell flowers, shoes, clothes and all kinds of specialty food items. There are also mobile businesses that provide services, such as hair styling, pet grooming and repair of hightech devices.Mobile retail is not without problems, however.Weather, the increasing price of fuel, and just finding a place to set up are all challenges that mobile entrepreneurs have to deal with. These business owners, however, feel the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. In the US,the mobile food business alone generates an average annual revenue of $857 million.
Once convinced that their business has achieved enough success, some successful mobile entrepreneurs move on to a brickandmortar business.Others are satisfied to stay mobile. As standalone businesses or as extensions of shops, mobile retail has huge future potential in these economic times.
4.What's the major cause for the rise of mobile business?
A.High profit. B.Strong interest.
C.Low investment. D.Convenient transport.
5.How does the author prove the advantages of the mobile business in Paragraph 2?
A.By quoting a famous saying.
B.By giving an example.
C.By providing an explanation.
D.By making a comparison.
6.Which of the following will make it harder for the owners to run the business?
A.The vehicle care. B.The business permit.
C.The terrible storm. D.The insufficient supply.
7.What's the author's attitude towards the future of mobile business?
A.Negative. B.Positive.
C.Unconcerned. D.Neutral.

(2024·杭州高二检测)To help astronauts of the future survive the mental challenges that come with living in space for extended periods of time, space travelers' missions could soon be accompanied by AIpowered, empathetic(同理心的) robotic assistants.
Not only does space travel present astronauts with a lot of physical stresses, spending months or years in such a physically demanding place with limited space and the same people can also raise lots of mental tests as well.According to MIT Technology Review, scientists are working to ease some of the mental challenges facing astronauts by creating “an AI assistant that's able to feel human emotion and respond with empathy”.
While such a technology would prove itself useful by being able to predict the needs of crew members and “intervene(介入) if their mental health is in need of help”,it has the potential to be life saving when humans choose to explore beyond the earth's gravitational field and towards deep space.
Though astronauts currently on the International Space Station have an intelligent robot to interact with,it lacks proper emotional intelligence. As a result,a team at the organization's Jet Propulsion Laboratory is working on a more advanced and complicated emotional support companion that can control a spacecraft's functioning in addition to tracking crew member's behaviors.
Right now in the lab,an AIequipped robot called Henry the Helper can be found wandering around the grounds helping visitors who appear confused or lost based on their facial expressions. Two more emotionally intelligent robots are expected to be introduced later this year, one of which is said to be able to participate in conversations more complex than giving navigation(导航) assistance.
The team's final goal is to make a companion named Fiona the Future a reality,an emotionally intelligent crossplatform system.Rather than being limited to a physical robotic device,it could be digitally integrated into space stations and habitats on Mars and beyond.Fiona,if all goes according to the JPL's plans, will help keep astronauts of the future mentally fit as they start their journeys to deep space.
8.Why are the emotional support robots needed?
A.To help astronauts get rid of physical stresses.
B.To protect astronauts from emotional suffering.
C.To achieve the mission of exploring deep space.
D.To test the robots' ability to feel human emotions.
9.What is true about the current intelligent robot on the International Space Station?
A.It can save astronauts' lives.
B.It can interact with astronauts.
C.It has emotional intelligence.
D.It can predict astronauts' needs.
10.What do we know about Fiona the Future?
A.It is due to be introduced this year.
B.It is available in the space stations.
C.It is just a physical robotic device.
D.It is more of an intelligent system.
11.Where does this passage probably come from?
A.A medicine magazine. B.A business magazine.
C.A science magazine. D.A travel magazine.

(2025·衡阳高二检测)Our clothes do a lot for us.They keep us warm in the winter or cool while we're working out. They let us dress to impress or comfortably relax on the couch. But some researchers think our clothes could be doing even more. Those scientists and engineers are dreaming up new ways to make clothes safer, more comfortable and convenient.
Some ideas for new clothing aim to protect people from harm.A new fabric coating could absorb some chemical weapons. That coating is made from a metalorganic framework that breaks down harmful mixtures. It could offer people in wartorn countries protection.
Not all advanced clothes are designed to save lives. Some could just make clothes more comfortable.Fabric integrated with nanowires(纳米线) could reflect your body heat back onto your skin.Electric current running through those metal threads could provide warmth, too. This may be especially useful for hikers, soldiers or others working in super cold conditions.On_the_flip_side,another new fabric traps very little body heat.Tiny holes in this material let infrared waves(红外波) pass through. Those waves carry heat away from your body to keep you cool.
Some researchers have dreamt up wholly new uses for clothing—like turning wearers into walking power outlets.Flexible solar panels sewn into fabric could soak up the sun to recharge phones or other devices on the go.And some types of fabric could harvest energy directly from a wearer's motion. While some fabrics help charge devices, others could serve as devices themselves. In one recent experiment, researchers sewed conductive thread into a Tshirt. This turned the shirt into a device that could send signals to a smartphone.Another team threaded fabric with magnetized copper and silver to write data into fabrics.Such datapacked fabric could be used as a handsfree key or form of ID.
Many of these ideas have not yet left the lab,but inventors hope these and other innovations could someday let you get more from your wardrobe.
12.What is the function of the coating in Paragraph 2?
A.To give off harmful chemicals.
B.To absorb energy from chemicals.
C.To make clothes more comfortable.
D.To protect people from chemical weapons.
13.What do the underlined words “On_the_flip_side” mean in Paragraph 3?
A.In addition. B.On the other hand.
C.In this way. D.As a consequence.
14.What transforms the Tshirt into a device?
A.Precious metal. B.A wearer's motion.
C.Flexible solar panels. D.Conductive thread.
15.What is the text mainly about?
A.The future of smart clothing.
B.The new devices used to make clothes.
C.The new materials in clothing industry.
D.The creative clothes from your wardrobe.

Einstein's Opinions on Creative Thinking
“The greatest scientists are artists as well,” said Albert Einstein, one of the greatest physicists and an amateur pianist and violinist.
For Einstein, insight did not come from logic or mathematics.16.______ As he once said,“All great achievements of science must start from intuitive(直觉的) knowledge.Imagination is more important than knowledge.”
17.______ Surprisingly,it wasn't the content of an idea,or its subject, that determined whether something was art or science, but how the idea was expressed. If what is seen and experienced is described in the language of logic, then it is science. If it is communicated and recognized intuitively, then it is art.18.______ That's why he said that great scientists were also artists.
19.______ “If I were not a physicist,” he once said,“I would probably be a musician.I often think in music and I see my life in terms of music.I get most joy in life out of music.” Music provided Einstein with a connection between time and space, which both combine spatial(空间的) and structural aspects.“The theory of relativity occurred to me by intuition and music is the driving force behind this intuition,” said Einstein.“My parents had me study the violin from the time I was six.20.______”
A.But how did art differ from science for Einstein?
B.Instead,it came from intuition(直觉) and inspiration.
C.My new discovery is the result of musical insight.
D.There is no doubt that my theory was a great breakthrough then.
E.Einstein himself worked intuitively and expressed himself logically.
F.Einstein also owed his scientific insight and intuition mainly to music.
G.For Einstein,it was the humanities that mainly contributed to his achievements.
16.B [解析]根据上文“For Einstein, insight did not come from logic or mathematics.”并结合下文“All great achievements of science must start from intuitive knowledge.Imagination is more important than knowledge.”
17.A [解析]下文“Surprisingly,it wasn't the content of an idea,or its subject, that determined whether something was art or science, but how the idea was expressed.” A项中art differ from science和下文的whether something was art or science相呼应,而A项的这个问题“但对爱因斯坦来说,艺术和科学有何不同?” 故选A。
18.E [解析]上文“If what is seen and experienced is described in the language of logic, then it is science. If it is communicated and recognized intuitively, then it is art.”
19.F [解析]下文“‘If I were not a physicist,’ he once said,‘I would probably be a musician.I often think in music and I see my life in terms of music.I get most joy in life out of music.’”
20.C [解析]上文“‘The theory of relativity occurred to me by intuition and music is the driving force behind this intuition,’ said Einstein.”

Along with the move came a new school for Brianna, who was 14 years old.She had a difficult time accepting the move,as she was a popular cheerleader at her school in Chicago. She also had a good set of friends, and she didn't exactly like meeting new people.
When it was time to go to school, her father drove her there to wish her well.“Good luck, sweetheart.I know this is going to be difficult for you,but you can do it.I know you can!” he said, giving her a kiss on the forehead.
“Thanks,Dad,” Brianna said quietly before leaving the car. While she was sad,Brianna didn't want her dad to worry even more,so she put on a brave smile and waved before her father drove away.
When she got to the school, she was greeted by the school secretary,Mrs.Keppler.“Hello,welcome to Chester Middle School! I'm going to give you a quick tour of the school,” she said.
“Thank you,” Brianna responded shyly and nervously.
Mrs.Keppler showed Brianna around, pointing her to the cafeteria, the school auditorium, and the gym. They also passed through the art and music rooms, the science laboratories, and the kitchen.
Finally,Brianna was led to the classroom and started her suffering first school day.Faced up with so many new faces, she made a brief selfintroduction, still nervous. Then she was guided to sit in the back row alone.During the breaks, all the students seemed so familiar with each other.Brianna found it hard to start a conversation with any one of them,as they were always busy with their own friends. She felt like she was an outsider and didn't belong. What a suffering the first school day was! So were the following weeks.

Paragraph 1:
When the day was finally over,Brianna shared her day with her father. Hearing what Brianna said, her father smiled,“New life means not only new challenges but also opportunities. It all depends on you.” Inspired by what her father said,Brianna was determined to adjust herself to fit in here. She knew that it wasn't easy, and she needed to make an effort.During the breaks, she encouraged herself to reach out to some of those who were talkative, actively involved in their conversations. To her surprise, most of them were easy to get along with.
Paragraph 2:
Over the next few weeks, things changed beyond Brianna's imagination.Brianna got to know more classmates and even befriended them. They started spending time together outside of school. They chatted about their interests and had fun together after school, and supported each other during tough times. Thanks to her courage,Brianna was finally able to break into her class's social circle at the new school. She was delighted that she took the initiative to reach out first, which made her high school experiences much more enjoyable.
