Tom had many hobbies, but none kept his interest for more than a week or two. His mum once gave him a bag of stamps to encourage stamp collecting. That hobby lasted a week. Then his father got him some paints. Those paints were now under his bed, still unopened. This time Tom’s parents would let him decide.
Tom’s eyes moved down the notice board that listed (列出) all the courses on offer. He stopped at “Photography”. Which animal can best stand for (代表) China? Have you heard of an animal that can really stand for China and even Chinese culture—the dragon? It is the symbol of emperor in ancient times. Even now we call ourselves descendants (后代) of the dragon, and we are proud of it. For thousands of years, dragons have been regarded as the symbol of China. But in the Western countries, people think the dragon is a strange thing. It is a terrible animal like a huge snake, and it’s not positive or beautiful.
There are many other differences about animals between China and Western countries. Dogs are humans’ good friends. But there are many bad common sayings about dogs in China, for example, “A dog looks down on other people.” But in Western countries, people praise the bravery and loyalty (忠诚) of dogs. In China, owls (猫头鹰) are not well-liked animals—some even believe they bring misfortune and death. However, in Western countries, the owl is seen as a symbol of wisdom and knowledge, and many people love owls very much. Owls often appear in cartoons and films.
Both Chinese and Western people should pay attention to this cultural difference. We may make a joke or even a mistake when communicating with each other. Having a full understanding of the differences between Chinese and Western culture is important for cultural exchange.

D. They can’t communicate with each other.
15. Where is the text probably taken from?
A. A travel guide. B. A science report. C. A storybook. D. A cultural magazine.

Art has always been a reflection of human creativity and imagination. With the development of artificial intelligence (AI), the world of art is experiencing an important change. AI painting is changing the way we create and enjoy art.
People use computer algorithms (算法) to generate (生成) artwork online, which is called AI painting. These algorithms are trained on large databases of existing artwork and photographs.
One of the key advantages (好处) of AI painting is its ability to produce artwork at a much faster speed than a human artist. While it may take a human artist hours or even days to complete a painting, AI can generate a similar piece in just a few minutes. Another advantage of AI painting is its ability to create artwork that is difficult or impossible for humans to produce. For example, some AI algorithms can generate 3D models of objects or landscapes based on 2D images. Besides, AI can be used to make artwork that mixes different styles, creating special works that would be challenging for a human artist to create alone.
However, there are also worries about the influence of AI on the art world. Some people argue that AI-generated artwork doesn’t have the deep feelings of human-created art. They believe that art is not just about creating beautiful pictures but also about expressing human experiences and feelings. Others worry that the widespread use of AI in art could lead to a homogenization (同质化) of styles.
In conclusion, AI painting is giving a new meaning to the world of art. It is a good tool for artists to discover new ideas. As we continue to explore (探索) this exciting new direction, it will be fascinating to see how AI painting evolves (进化) and shapes the future of art.

A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.
18. What can AI painting do according to the text?

②It can create artwork that is impossible for humans to produce.
③It can put different styles into the artwork.
④It can express the deep feelings of humans.
A. ①②④ B. ②③④ C. ①②③ D. ①③④
19. What is the writer’s attitude about AI painting?
A. It has no value for human artist.
B. It has more disadvantages than advantages.
C. Everyone should use it to produce artwork.
D. Artists can use it as a tool to explore new possibilities.
20. What can we learn from the text?

②It can create artwork that is impossible for humans to produce.
③It can put different styles into the artwork.
④It can express the deep feelings of humans.
A. ①②④ B. ②③④ C. ①②③ D. ①③④

A. It has no value for human artist.
B. It has more disadvantages than advantages.

D. Artists can use it as a tool to explore new possibilities.
