From an early age, I began to like Chinese culture a lot. When there was a chance to study in Beijing as an exchange student, I took it at once. In my first 24 hours in Beijing, I felt very nervous. I didn’t see one foreigner. But on my first day of school, I was greeted by many foreign faces. The students came from all over the world. I would be in a class with Chelsea from Norway and Charlie from my motherland — the UK.
None of us had studied Chinese before, but our language skills improved quickly. By the end of the first month, we could all make simple sentences. Some of these sentences, though, were quite funny. We often sent our language teacher Sophie into wild laughter. We had a happy time together.
The first month was very tiring. There were so many new things to learn. Thankfully, our school organized many events for students. We talked a lot about cultural differences and our future plans. It was a great chance for us to practice speaking Chinese.
In October, my Chinese friend Zhen Hua showed me around the city. He took me to some of his favorite restaurants. Chinese table manners were very different from those in the West. Eating Chinese food was like an adventure, and it became my favorite part about living in Beijing.
My six-month stay in China made me excited. I want to visit China again to look for more adventures.

Passage 1
In a peaceful town surrounded by hills, there lived an eight-grader named Tom who loved adventures (冒险). Tom had a wonderful buddy who wasn’t just a home pet but his very best friend-a golden retriever (寻回犬) called Max. They first met at an animal center when Tom was seven and have been together since then.
Every morning, Tom and Max-went on exciting adventures. They would walk through the woods, run after butterflies, and even help Mrs. Thompson with her garden. Max had a super sense of smell, which made it easy for them to play treasure hunts and find hidden treasures around the neighborhood. Tom always proudly told his friends about Max’s cleverness and how loyal (忠诚) he was.
One day, while walking the forest, Tom slipped on a wet rock and hurt his leg. He was worried and called for help, but the trees weakened his cries. However, Max stayed right next to him and gently pulled him to a clearer area where it was easier to see. With Max showing the way, Tom slowly moved back home with difficulty.
After that accident (事故), Tom stayed home from school for a week to rest and heal. During this time, Max was always with him, bringing him books, getting water, and making him feel better. Their friendship became even stronger, and Tom’s parents were very moved by how loyal Max was.
As Tom grew up, he and Max were still the best friends. They went to dog shows together, where Max won awards, and watched beautiful sunsets from their favorite hill. One day, as Tim was walking home from school, he noticed a group of his classmates playing baseball in a nearby park. They were passing the ball loudly and happily. Tim felt a pang of pity for himself, as he had never been part of such an enjoyable activity.
“What’s the matter, Tim?” asked his friend, Sarah, noticing his unhappy feeling. Timanswered, “I wish I could join them, but I’ve never played baseball before, and I’m afraid I’ll be bad at it.”
Sarah, being a confident (自信的) and encouraging classmate, said, “That’s no problem at all! We can learn together.” After that, she explained that there was a volleyball game later. They could practise passing the ball for that.
Feeling hopeful, Tim agreed to join Sarah for some practice. They went to the school’s volleyball court, and she taught him how to pass the ball with confidence. Tim found the activity to be both relaxing and enjoyable, and he began to score points in their friendly matches.

Passage 4阅读下面短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。每个选项仅使用一次。
Friendship is important for our health, but recent studies show some surprising fact. According to The American Friendship Project (2024), while over 75% of people are happy with the number of friends they have, more than 40% feel they aren’t as close to their friends as they would like to be. 1
There are a few reasons. One reason is the fear of being judged (评判). In today’s world, we may feel nervous about being fully honest or open with friends. 2 With so much going on we don’t have as many chances to spend relaxing time together in person. For some, making a phone call or meeting in person can feel uncomfortable.
Even though almost all Americans have at least one friend, loneliness is still on the rise. What can we do to fight loneliness and build stronger connections with our friends? Here is some advice.
➽ 3 While social media are helpful, face-to-face conversations are better for building stronger relationships. If meeting in person is hard, try making phone calls to stay in touch.
➽ 4 To make in-person chats easier, write down topics (话题) or interesting stories you want to share. This can help avoid the awkward (尴尬的) moments when you’re not sure what to talk about.
➽ make a call list. 5 This helps you remember to reach out and stay in touch with the people who matter to you.
In conclusion, while busy lives and technology can make it harder to maintain (维持) close friendships, trying to connect in person can help reduce (减少) loneliness and make us closer.
A.Keep a list of conversation topics,
B.Focus on face-to-face conversations.
C.Why don't we feel closer to our friends?
D.Keep a list of friends you want to talk with.
E.Another reason is that life today is faster and busier.

3.推理判断题。通读全文可知,蒂姆有不好的生活习惯,本担心他,写诗给他,劝他改掉坏习惯,体现了朋友之间的互相关心。故选A。

From Max, Tom learned important life lessons about being loyal, brave, and loving someone without wanting anything back. Even now, Tom often thinks back with joy to those wonderful times with Max and is forever thankful for the great changes his furry friend made to his life.

Once upon a time in a small town, there was a young boy named Tim who always felt bored after school. His afternoons were filled with nothing but the same old routine (常规事), and he longed for something exciting.
