But for Dubai-based Filipino artist Nathaniel Alapide, it's how he became a Guinness World Record holder. Dubai's 72 kilometres of coastline, and the vast Arabian Desert, are Alapide's canvas(画布). Using only a simple garden tool, he draws enormous lines across the beaches and deserts, making huge and complex designs. His average drawing is around 20 metres squared. When he includes a written message, the pieces can be more than 100 metres long. Alapide's sand art began in 2014, when he drew a tree in memory of his late grandmother on the beach, near Jumeirah Beach Hotel. The size of the drawing appealed to the hotel which offered him his first full-time job as a sand artist in 2015. Since then, he has decorated the sands with around 1,900 drawings. He's been assigned by big brands, and he created a work for National Geographic for the programme “The UAE From Above”. In 2022, Alapide set a new record for the world's largest sand image. Though Alapide has crafted a career from the practice, he says creating an artwork from sand isn't always plain sailing. “On the 20th day of creating the world-record piece, we were almost 70% done but there was this weather that happened,” he says. “It was raining, and the wind was so strong, which removed almost the whole piece.” “I think that's why I find this kind of work interesting,” Alapide continues. He says that the temporary nature of his work reminds him that everything is in constant change. “And I think making sand art is a great way to connect with people,” he adds. “I like to watch how people interact with the work and I have found that the kids notice the drawings more than the adults. I think that's because they're more aware of their environment.” ( D )24.What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell us about Alapide's drawing? A.Its origin. B.Its size. C.Its materials. D.Its features. ( B )25.How did Alapide start his career of sand drawing? A.By decorating a hotel as required. B.By impressing a hotel with his work. C.By transplanting a tree on the beach. D.By creating works for big brands. ( A )26.What can we say about Alapide's job according to Paragraph 4? A. Challenging. B.Worthless. C.Influential. D.Impractical. ( C )27.What does the last paragraph intend to convey? A.A candle lights others but consumes itself. B.He who makes no mistakes makes nothing. C.Happiness lies not in things, but in ourselves. D.The longest journey begins with the first step. 根据第三段前两句“Alapide's sand art began in 2014, when he drew a tree in memory of his late grandmother on the beach, near Jumeirah Beach Hotel. The size of the drawing appealed to the hotel which offered him his first full-time job as a sand artist in 2015.(Alapide的沙滩艺术始于2014年,当时他在朱美拉海滩酒店附近的海滩上画了一棵树,以纪念已故的祖母。 故选A。 C。 C There are different regional accents across the UK, and a number of regions have several different dialects—that is, they have their own unique vocabulary and grammatical phrases. There are many different accents native to London, because it is not just where a person is born in the UK that decides their accent. Language and accents also differ across class and level of education. Therefore, the recent rise of a new accent was coined at the end of the 20th century, “Multicultural London English”. Other factors are also important in the invention of new accents and ways of speaking. These include the influence of people from different racial(种族的) backgrounds and different age groups, too. The word “yoof” is a slang spelling of “youth”. Some people consider “yoof” to be a negative term, since its pronunciation is easier and lazier than youth. Other people see the term as positive, because it describes how young people are creating their own language, concepts and identity. By using words that their parents don't understand, children can talk about things that their parents might not agree with. In this way, young people are starting to find freedom, independence and self-expression. They are creating a “yoof culture”. A few features of the yoof style of language are as follows: · instead of “think” “the” “that” “what” and “because”, yoof will say “fink” “da” “dat” “wot” and “coz”. · instead of using a variety of tag questions like “..., isn't it?” or “..., don't they?”, yoof will use the all-purpose “innit” (e.g. “It's hot, innit! ” or “You can dance really well, innit!”) Certain groups of society feel threatened by the “yoof culture” or by the British working classes having more social freedom. As a result, a negative term now commonly used in the UK is “chav”.It is an insult(辱骂) and is meant to describe someone who is uneducated and anti-social (e.g. “He's a chav!” ). A young person who wears a jacket with a hood(护帽)—after all, it is often cold and rains a lot in the UK—is sometimes called a “hoodie”. It is a negative term again and suggests that the young person is interested in committing a crime(犯罪). ( D )28.Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a factor in the invention of new accents? A.Class. B.Race. C.Age. D.Family. ( A )29.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A.The word “yoof”. B.Other people's attitude. C.The pronunciation of “yoof”. D.Multicultural London English. ( C )30.What's the probable feature of “yoof languages”? A. They are only used online. B.They are simple but easy to understand. C.They are usually an incomplete list of words. D.They are short but have complete grammar structure. ( C )31.What is the main idea of Paragraph 3? A.Young people are more likely to commit a crime. B.The yoof culture has a bad influence on young people. C.Certain groups have negative ideas about the yoof culture. D.Different people have different attitudes towards the yoof culture. 根据第一段中的“Language and accents also differ across class and level of education.(语言和口音也因阶级和教育水平的不同而不同)”以及“These include the influence of people from different racial(种族的) backgrounds and different age groups, too.(这些因素包括来自不同种族背景和不同年龄组的人的影响。)” 根据第二段中的“The word ‘yoof’ is a slang spelling of ‘youth’. Some people consider ‘yoof’ to be a negative term, since its pronunciation is easier and lazier than youth.(‘yoof’这个词是‘youth’的俚语拼写。有些人认为‘yoof’是一个贬义词,因为它的发音比‘youth’更容易、更慵懒。)”以及画线词下文“describes how young people are creating their own language, concepts and identity(描述了年轻人如何创造自己的语言、概念和身份)”可知,上文提到了一些人对yoof这个词的消极看法,而下文提到了其他人认为yoof这个词是积极的,因为它描述了年轻人如何创造自己的语言、概念和身份。因此it指的是“yoof”这个词。故选A。 根据第二段中“A few features of the yoof style of language are as follows:(yoof语言风格的几个特点如下)”“instead of ‘think’ ‘the’ ‘that’ ‘what’ and ‘because’, yoof will say ‘fink’ ‘da’ ‘dat’ ‘wot’ and ‘coz’.(他们不说‘think’‘the’‘that’‘what’和‘because’,而会说‘fink’‘da’‘dat’‘wot’和‘coz’)”以及“instead of using a variety of tag questions like ‘..., isn't it?’ or ‘..., don't they?’, yoof will use the all-purpose ‘innit’ (e.g. ‘It's hot, innit! ’or ‘You can dance really well, innit!’)[不使用各种各样的反意疑问句,比如‘..., isn't it?’或‘..., don't they?’,yoof会使用通用的‘innit’(例如:‘It's hot, innit!’或者‘You can dance really well, innit!’)]” 根据第三段第一句“Certain groups of society feel threatened by the ‘yoof culture’ or by the British working classes having more social freedom.” C。 D Is it true that our brain alone is responsible for human cognition(认知)? What about our body? Is it possible for thought and behaviour to originate from somewhere other than our brain? Psychologists who study Embodied Cognition(EC) ask similar questions. The EC theory suggests our body is also responsible for thinking or problem-solving. More precisely, the mind shapes the body and the body shapes the mind in equal measure. If you think about it for a moment, it makes total sense. When you smell something good or hear amusing sounds, certain emotions are awakened. Think about how newborns use their senses to understand the world around them. They don't have emotions so much as needs—they don't feel sad; they're just hungry and need food. Even unborn babies can feel their mothers' heartbeats and this has a calming effect. In the real world, they cry when they're cold and then get hugged. That way, they start to associate being warm with being loved. Understandably, theorists have been arguing for years and still disagree on whether the brain is the nerve centre that operates the rest of the body. Older Western philosophers and mainstream language researchers believe this is fact, while EC theorises that the brain and body are working together as an organic supercomputer, processing everything and forming your reactions. Further studies have backed up the mind-body interaction. In one experiment, test subjects were asked to judge people after being handed a hot or a cold drink. They all made warm evaluations when their fingertips perceived warmth rather than coolness. And it works the other way too. In another study, subjects' fingertip temperatures were measured after being “included” in or “rejected” from a group task. Those who were included felt physically warmer. For further proof, we can look at the metaphors (比喻) that we use without even thinking. A kind and sympathetic person is frequently referred to as one with a soft heart and someone who is very strong and calm in difficult situations is often described as solid as a rock. And this kind of metaphorical use is common across languages. Now that you have the knowledge of mind-body interaction, why not use it? If you're having a bad day, a warm cup of tea will give you a flash of pleasure. If you know you're physically cold, warm up before making any interpersonal decisions. ( A )32.According to the author, what is the significance of EC? A.It brings us closer to the truth in human cognition. B.It offers a clearer picture of the shape of human brain. C.It reveals the major role of the mind in human cognition. D.It facilitates our understanding of the origin of psychology. ( D )33.Where does the newborns' understanding of their surroundings start from? A. Their personal looks. B.Their mental needs. C.Their inner emotions. D.Their physical feelings. ( B )34.What does the author intend to prove by citing the metaphors in Paragraph 5? A.Human speech is alive with metaphors. B.Human senses have effects on thinking. C.Human language is shaped by visual images. D.Human emotions are often compared to natural materials. ( B )35.What is the author's purpose in writing the last paragraph? A.To deepen the readers' understanding of EC. B.To encourage the readers to put EC into practice. C.To guide the readers onto the path to career success. D.To share with the readers ways to release their emotions. 根据第一段最后两句“The EC theory suggests our body is also responsible for thinking or problem-solving. More precisely, the mind shapes the body and the body shapes the mind in equal measure.(具身认知理论表明,我们的身体也负责思考或解决问题。更准确地说,思维塑造身体,身体同等程度地塑造思维。)”可推知,具身认知理论让我们更接近人类认知的真相。故选A。 根据第二段最后三句“They don't have emotions so much as needs—they don't feel sad; they're just hungry and need food. Even unborn babies can feel their mothers' heartbeats and this has a calming effect. In the real world, they cry when they're cold and then get hugged. That way, they start to associate being warm with being loved.(他们没有情感,只有需求——他们不会感到悲伤,他们只是饿,需要食物。即使是未出生的婴儿也能感觉到母亲的心跳,这具有镇静作用。在现实世界中,他们冷了就哭,然后被拥抱。这样,他们开始将温暖与被爱联系起来。)”可推知,新生儿对周围环境的理解源于身体感觉。故选D。 34.B 推理判断题。根据第五段第一句“For further proof, we can look at the metaphors(比喻) that we use without even thinking.(为了进一步证明,我们可以看看我们不假思索就使用的比喻。)”和第四段第一句“Further studies have backed up the mind-body interaction.(更多的研究支持了身心互动。)”可知,这两段都是为了证明第三段提出的具身认知的观点“EC theorises that the brain and body are working together as an organic supercomputer, processing everything and forming your reactions(具身认知理论认为大脑和身体作为一台有机的超级计算机协同工作,处理一切并形成反应)”。 根据最后一段第一句“Now that you have the knowledge of mind-body interaction, why not use it? (既然你已经掌握了身心互动的知识,为什么不使用它呢?)”以及下文中列举的两种现实生活中的情况“If you're having a bad day, a warm cup of tea will give you a flash of pleasure. There was no one she considered a friend. So, when her parents decided to move, she was okay with it. She didn't feel sad because she wasn't leaving anyone behind. She was eight when they moved to a new town. It wasn't that different from the place where they had lived before. There were a lot of trees and kids running around outside, riding bikes, and playing. One day her mother caught her staring out of the window at some kids playing. Her mum told her to go out and play with those kids. So Katie went out. She could see that they were all having fun and she wanted to join in but she was afraid. She tried to muster up(鼓起) the courage to ask them if she could join them but she just couldn't do it. She decided to go for a walk instead. She liked how peaceful the town was. The people seemed nice and polite. Her stroll finally led her to the town's lake. She felt the rush of cold air brushing her face. The beauty of the lake was something to behold. She sat there admiring it and decided that this would be her place. She would come here every day and maybe one day, she would bring her friends here. After school, she always stopped by the lake before going home. She swore she could stay there for hours, and maybe even live there. If she ever got hungry, she always had food ready in her bag. One day when she was writing a poem about the lake, she heard her stomach growl. She put down her notebook and her pen and got her sandwich out. She was about to take a bite when she heard a noise. This alarmed her. She hadn't heard or seen anything strange before. She looked around and suddenly she noticed that there was something black moving towards the bank. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。 One possible version: “A swimming black dog!” Katie cried out in surprise.At__first__she__felt__a__little__frightened,__because__the__dog__was__huge__and__wet.__Then__she__tried__to__calm__herself__down__and__guessed,__“Maybe__it__is__just__hungry.”__So__she__offered__her__sandwich__to__the__dog.__After__finishing__its__meal,__the__dog__walked__up__to__her__and__sat__down__beside__her.__She__bravely__reached__out__her__hand__to__touch__its__head__and__introduced__herself__to__it.__The__dog__nodded__as__if__to__say,__“Nice__to__meet__you,__Katie.”__From__then__on,__Katie__and__the__dog__became__friends.__ Every day, Katie brought five extra sandwiches for her friend.She__told__the__dog__everything__that__happened__to__her__at__school.__Sometimes,__she__sang__or__danced__and__the__dog__just__nodded__along.__For__the__first__time,__Katie__didn't__feel__lonely.__When__her__classmates__knew__there__was__a__lovely__dog__swimming__in__the__lake,__they__went__with__her__to__play__with__it__after__school__every__day.__They__spent__time__with__her__and__the__dog.__All__of__them__played__games,__sang,__and__danced.__Having__many__friends__gave__her__joy.__ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
