2024·永州一中高一检测A new study proves when teenagers cut back on social media use, they seem to feel better about themselves. Helen Thai, a doctoral student in psychology at McGill University, conducted the study. She said the research came from her own personal experiences. “I couldn't help but compare myself when I was using social media, making me unsatisfied with my self-image” says Thai. Although she was aware that social media posts often presented images that can be unrealistic in real life, it still had a negative impact on her. So, Thai and a team of researchers decided to test whether reduced time on social media would increase self-confidence in body image.
They hired a few hundred volunteers, aged between 14 and 18, all of whom had experienced signs of anxiety or depression, which could make them easier to be affected by social media. Half of the teens were asked to reduce their social media to 60 minutes a day for three weeks. The other half continued to use social media freely, which averaged about three hours per day. The researchers gave the teens surveys at the beginning and end of the study. It included statements such as “I'm pretty happy about the way I look.” and “I am satisfied with my weight.”
Among the group that cut back on social media use, the overall score on appearance satisfaction improved from 2.95 to 3.15 on a 5 point scale. “This may seem like a small change, but any change in such a short period of time is striking,” say the researchers.
“This research showed promising results that weight and appearance confidence can improve when people cut back on social media use,” wrote Thai. Thai says it's encouraging that teens were willing to cut back on screen time, even for three weeks. It's also worth experimenting on other groups, such as people with or at risk of eating disorders.
( C )4.What inspired Thai to do the research?
A.Her major. B.Online posts.
C.Her experiences. D.Social pressure.
( B )5.What do the volunteers have in common?
A.Family background.
B.Mental problems.
C.Learning abilities.
D.Body shape.
( A )6.What did Thai think of the result of their study?
A.It proved their expectation.
B.It made them disappointed.
C.It changed their first idea.
D.It needed further study.
( B )7.What is the best title for the text?
A.Higher Confidence, More Image Satisfaction
B.Less Social Media Use, Less Image Anxiety
C.To Be a Social Media Addict or Not
D.Social Media, Love at First Sight

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
2024·东海中学高一检测Ask an adult, “What do teenagers do in their free time?” A large number of adults' answers will probably include playing video games, watching movies and TV, and hanging out(闲逛) with friends. 1.__D__
Most of these answers are wrong. Fewer teenagers watch TV or go to the movies these days. They even hang out with friends less often than before. 2.__B__ They read all the time. As a matter of fact, they read more often than their parents. They aren't just reading books. Instead, many teenagers read e-mails and messages. They read articles on websites and posts on social media. They get a lot of reading practice every day.
Parents worry that it's not the right kind of reading practice, though. 3.__A__ Actually, any kind of reading is good for teenagers, helping them develop skills that they will need in their later life. Their memories will become stronger, and their vocabularies will become wider.
Online, they can search for many different things to read. 4.__E__ However, books are still better. They are easier to focus on. Teenagers understand and remember more from them. Also, reading books helps teenagers to stay away from social media. Using social media too much causes stress and depression.
5.__F__ First, they should make books available around the house. Then, they should read to their kids as often as possible or give them time to read. Finally, they can form good reading habits by reading books. Kids copy the habits that they see.
A.They believe that books are better.
B.However, they don't read less often.
C.Reading good books makes us happy.
D.They probably won't include reading.
E.They can find the latest information fast.
F.Parents can help their kids read books more often.
G.Bedtime is an especially good time to read together.
