As they ran, the father suddenly stopped. “Are you tired, Dad?” the boy asked. “No. There are some small stones in my shoes. I need to take them out,” the father replied. The boy also felt the stones in his shoes, but he decided to clear them out after reaching the top of the hill.

Fish babies in space? In a space study on a kind of fish called zebrafish, Chinese scientists have set a new record. They successfully got four zebrafish to live and grow in a closed water world.
The zebrafish went to China’s space station on the Shenzhou XVIII spaceship on April 25, 2024. Since then, they have been living in a closed fish tank with some plants. The fish grew up and had some babies in 43 days.
In their special closed fish tank, the plants produced air for the fish and the fish’s waste gave the plants food. The scientists gave the fish food through a special needle. Such a closed ecosystem is important for future studies in space. It means that plants and animals can live in space more simply and easily.
The scientists also found that the zebrafish acted differently compared to living on Earth. For example, they often swam on their backs. The low gravity (重力) in space is a big reason. On Earth, gravity pulls everything to Earth’s center, and animals can find their way easily. Gravity also makes their bodies work harder and become stronger.
Humans and zebrafish share 70 percent of the same genes (基因). So the new finding will help scientists better understand how the human body reacts to space conditions.
52. What do we know about the space study?
A. It lasted for less than one month.
B. It’s a Chinese great achievement.
C The zebrafish gave birth to four babies in space.
53. Which picture should be in the circle in paragraph 3?
A. B. C.
54. How was the zebrafish’s life in space?
A. The zebrafish swam upside down.
B. The zebrafish swam as the way on Earth.
C. The zebrafish became stronger in space than on Earth.
55. Why are zebrafish chosen to study in space?
A. They eat and live on water plants.
B. They completely have the same genes as humans.
C. They share over two-thirds of genes with humans.
56. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Living in the Spaceship
B. Raising Zebrafish in Space
C. The human reactions in space conditions

A glacier is a large body of ice that slowly moves down a mountain or over a wide area of land. March 21 has been set as World Day for Glaciers in 2025. It has started to encourage everyone to help protect them. But do you know why?
As we all know, over 70 percent of the world’s fresh water is stored in glaciers. They are like lifeblood for many people and animals. In areas like the Himalayas, many people and animals depend on glacier water to live. There are some glaciers on the mountains, too. They are home to a large number of animals.
But now glaciers around the world are melting very quickly. Glaciers are in big trouble and climate (气候) change leads to rising temperature and the warming earth. Many glaciers have already disappeared, and others are melting rapidly. Scientists say two-thirds of them may disappear by 2100.
These glaciers are more than just ice. They provide us with drinking water and help with farming. Losing glaciers means less water for many people and higher risks of floods (洪水). It would also be bad for animals and plants. Some animals may need to move higher up the mountains, but this could put them in danger of losing their homes.
What can we do about melting glaciers? To make more ice is simpler than the others, according to some scientists. Yes, that’s their answer to one of the biggest problems of the century! So Chinese scientists use machines to make snow in Qilian Mountains. The white snow reflects the sun’s heat, helping glaciers stay cool. What’s more, Chinese scientists have done other things to stop glaciers from melting too fast. Glacier No. 1 in Xinjiang is covered with special glacier blankets (毯子) which show the development of high technology. Drones (无人机) are like flying eyes. Scientists send them up to take pictures and videos of glaciers, so they can closely watch every small change. They are all working!

The Great Wall of China is an ancient wall in the north of the country. It is over 2,300 years old. In order to protect their part of the country from the north, the ancient emperors built it.
However, if you think the Great Wall is one single wall, you are wrong. The wall was first built during the Qin Dynasty in the 7th century B.C. Later, more parts were added during the Ming Dynasty. This part is about 8,850 kilometers long. The whole Great Wall is 21,196 kilometers long. It is the longest wall ever built by humans and passes through mountains, deserts, and rivers. In the beginning, ancient people in China used earth, stones and wood to build the first parts of the wall. Later on, bricks and stone were used instead. During the Ming Dynasty, workers even used sticky rice paste (糯米浆) to glue the bricks of the wall together!
Ken, a student from America, went to Mutianyu on the Great Wall. It was quieter than Badaling, the most popular part of the Great Wall. But he thinks it is the most amazing place he has ever visited. The long wall winding along mountains, with watchtowers, shocked him. Though the climb was hard, reaching the top offered a beautiful view. How did ancient Chinese make it? He was lost in thought.
The Great Wall has been a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) World Heritage Site (遗产地) since 1987. It’s no wonder that millions of people home and abroad choose to visit it every year.

C. The zebrafish gave birth to four babies in space.

【答案】 My AI Learning Experience
AI is playing a significant role in our lives.
In my learning, I often use AI-powered apps. For example, there is an app that can correct my English writing. It points out grammar and spelling mistakes and gives suggestions for improvement. Also, some AI-based translation tools help me understand difficult texts.
However, I don’t think AI can replace human teachers. Teachers can provide emotional support and unique insights. AI is just a useful tool for our study.
