On May 8, 2025, Huawei showed its first computer that runs on Harmony OS in Shenzhen. This is a big and important moment for China’s technology. It shows that China can make its own high-tech products. More than 10,000 engineers and 20 research groups worked for five years to make this computer. Now, it can compete with popular operating systems like Windows and macOS in the world.
The Harmony OS PC uses Harmony OS 5. This is an operating system that China made all by itself. It works very fast, keeps your information safe, and helps different devices connect easily. For example, there is an AI helper named “Xiaoyi”. You can tell it what to do with your voice. It can help you make slides (幻灯片) for a class report or quickly tell you what happened in a meeting. Also, you can use this system to control many Huawei devices at the same time without any trouble.
Keeping your data safe is a big thing for this computer. The Harmony OS PC has a special “brain” (kernel) that China developed on its own. It also uses strong encryption (芯片级加密) in the chip to protect your information. There is a “super privacy mode”. You can press a button, and it will stop the camera and microphone from working.
Huawei wants to build a strong and long-lasting system for this computer. So, it works with universities to teach students how to make apps for Harmony OS. Huawei also changed over 300 apps so they can work on the Harmony OS PC. Now, 7.2 million people who make apps have joined, and they wrote 110 million lines of code. This makes a great place for new ideas in the future.
There are still hard things to deal with. Other old- time operating systems are very popular, and it’s not easy to beat them. But the Harmony OS PC shows that China is moving from using other countries’ technology to making its own great inventions. Huawei’s CEO said, “Harmony OS is not just an operating system. It’s the start of a smart life.”
12. What can we know about the Harmony OS 5 from the passage?
A It is slow but very safe for users.
B. It can only be used on Huawei computers.
C. It allows users to control different Huawei devices easily.
D. It is a system that was made with the help of foreign countries.
13. Why is the “super privacy mode” important?
A. It makes the computer run faster.
B. It can protect privacy (隐私).
C. It helps users control multiple devices at once.
D. It teaches users how to write code for new apps.
14. What can we infer from Huawei’s CEO’s words?
A. Harmony OS will only be used on computers, not other devices.
B. Huawei wants to sell Harmony OS to other countries as a foundation.
C. The CEO thinks making an operating system is very easy.
D. Huawei plans to use Harmony OS to create more smart products in the future.
15. What is the main idea of the passage?
A To compare Harmony OS with Windows and macOS.
B. To list the problems of old - time operating systems.
C. To explain how to use the AI helper “Xiaoyi” on the Harmony OS PC.
D. To introduce Huawei’s new computer with Harmony OS and its significance. (意义)

A. It is slow but very safe for users.
A. To compare Harmony OS with Windows and macOS.
B. To list the problems of old - time operating systems.
C. To explain how to use the AI helper “Xiaoyi” on the Harmony OS PC.
