A In 2000,Andréa Speranza achieved her dream of becoming a firefighter joining the Halifax Regional Fire Service. Her job was exactly as satisfying as she imagined it would be,except for one thing:She still hadn't seen another woman in her role—not in a magazine, not on television, not in real life.Even today, less than five percent of firefighters in Canada are women.Speranza decided that she wanted to help young women see that they, too, could have a career like hers. The result is Camp Courage,a program for girls aged 15 to 19 who want to learn more about firefighting. In 2006,Speranza and about 20 volunteers welcomed their first 17 participants, recruiting(招募) attendees through advertising in schools and recreation centers.Over the course of eight days, the girls discovered the ins and outs of being first responders:learning how to put out fires, deliver first aid and even use the jaws of life(救生钳) on a car. Camp Courage now runs one session every year in Halifax and is free to attend. To offset costs,Speranza and her fellow campers fundraise by holding everything from car washes to comedy nights.Hopeful campers must also submit an essay describing how they plan to help their community,or a specific individual in need. And they have to deliver on the plan—from building a bench(长椅) for a senior at a bus stop to launching a local chapter of the Kids Help Phone. Hundreds of girls have passed through Camp Courage, and 36 percent are doing exactly what 52yearold Speranza hoped they would:working as first responders across the country. In 2022,the camp held its first session for young women in Halifax,as well as its first national camp in Calgary. 1.What was probably Speranza's wish in 2001? A.To see more female firefighters. B.To make contact with more teenage girls. C.To be recruited to the Halifax Regional Fire Service. D.To work parttime in schools and recreation centers. 2.What does the underlined part “ins and outs” in Paragraph 2 mean? A.Risks. B.Chances. C.Details. D.Purposes. 3.What can be inferred about Camp Courage? A.It is an international nonprofit organization. B.It teaches the value of being helpful to others. C.It requires its campers to write an essay every week. D.It introduces boys and girls to the emergency services. 4.What can we say about Speranza? A.She had a burning ambition to play comedy. B.She used to be reserved and disciplined. C.She is intellectual and scholarly. D.She is brave and inspiring. 根据第一段首句“In 2000,Andréa Speranza achieved her dream of becoming a firefighter joining the Halifax Regional Fire Service.”以及“Speranza decided that she wanted to help young women see that they, too, could have a career like hers.” 故选A。 根据第二段末句“Over the course of eight days, the girls discovered the ins and outs of being first responders:learning how to put out fires, deliver first aid and even use the jaws of life on a car.” 根据第三段最后两句“Hopeful campers must also submit an essay describing how they plan to help their community,or a specific individual in need. And they have to deliver on the plan—from building a bench for a senior at a bus stop to launching a local chapter of the Kids Help Phone.” 通读全文,尤其是首段首句“In 2000,Andréa Speranza achieved her dream of becoming a firefighter joining the Halifax Regional Fire Service.”以及第二段首句“The result is Camp Courage,a program for girls aged 15 to 19 who want to learn more about firefighting.” B (2025·四川达州模拟)“I spilled soup all over the table, but it wasn't my fault.”“I got into trouble at school, but it wasn't my fault.” Such statements are often heard.“It's not my fault” is actually a common response for so many people and especially teenagers.Parents complain that they're tired of the “excuses”. The reason why variations of “it's not my fault” are so popular is that it lets us off the hook from guilt, blame, and anger. Those emotions may come from others' reactions or our own selftalk. In the case of adolescents, they are often trying to escape responsibility and punishment for mistakes. Some teens would benefit from decreasing their selfblame. Those who blame themselves for things that they can't control tend to be highly selfcritical and are more likely to be anxious. Many teens overly rely on “it's not my fault”.However, overuse of the phrase can result in feelings of helplessness to control their own lives.Besides,“it's not my fault” focuses a teen's attention on what is done as opposed to what needs to be done.In trying to get them to assume responsibility, many parents attempt to convince their children that something is their fault, but the approach tends to be ineffective.A more effective approach is to face up to drawbacks to find solutions to the drawbacks actively. People may not have caused all their problems, but they have to solve them anyway.Getting stuck in sharing blame often keeps people from moving forward effectively. What does one do if he is pushed into a deep lake? One could certainly stay in water, yelling,“It's not my fault.” However, that is not going to get him out of water. At some point,he needs to swim to shore, regardless of the fault. Like most things in life, freeing ourselves from blame has its advantages and disadvantages. The question isn't what is “right”,but what is most effective to move forward. 5.Who is likely to rely on “it's not my fault”? A.A highly selfcritical teenager. B.A teenager unwilling to admit a fault. C.A teenager facing up to his responsibilities. D.A teenager anxious about uncontrollable things. 6.What is the author's advice on getting teens to assume responsibility? A.Letting them focus on what is done. B.Persuading them to admit their fault. C.Making them correct the mistake actively. D.Helping them analyze the reason for the mistake. 7.Why does the author raise such a question in Paragraph 5? A.To put forward a new solution to drawbacks. B.To show handling problems should come first. C.To explain why teenagers get stuck in sharing blame. D.To analyze what kind of problem is caused by others. 8.What is the author's purpose in writing this text? A.To help teenagers out of selfblame. B.To tell parents how to educate children. C.To help teenagers face mistakes properly. D.To tell children to do selftalk consciously. 根据第四段中的“In trying to get them to assume responsibility, many parents attempt to convince their children ...to find solutions to the drawbacks actively.” I lost my sight when I was four.I can hardly 1 the brightness of sunshine.
