But since it's easy to feel pressured to keep up with every notification, technology may feel more like a burden than a blessing. Thus, the idea of “digital detox” is becoming increasingly inviting. The phrase “digital detox” describes getting rid of TV, phones, computers and other forms of technology that control our lives for a period of time. Some experts advocate completely avoiding unnecessary screen time for 30 years. Others suggest using an app that will limit the amount of time one can spend on certain websites. A third option is logging out in evenings or on weekends. Others simply turn their phones off at scheduled times. Some even pay high prices to take vacations in places where they can unplug from their digital routine. Why might you want to take a digital detox? Perhaps you find that you are spending longer than you intend on certain apps or that they distract you from more important things. Perhaps social media is depressing because you compare yourself to others or you fear missing out on things that other people are enjoying. Constant negative news can also give rise to a lot of stress. Technology can also have physical effects. Many people experience back or neck pain as a result of bending over screens. The blue light coming from most screens can also affect people's sleep by preventing production of melatonin (褪黑素). Giving up all screens may not be realistic, but strategic breaks from technology may be good for your body, mind, emotions and relationships. It is high time that you picked a time to turn off your devices and focus on really important things. 1.Why does the author say “technology may feel more like a burden than a blessing” in Paragraph 1? A.To confirm a concept. B.To present a problem. C.To explain a rule. D.To make a prediction. 根据第一段中的“Most of us ... like a burden than a blessing.(大多数人生活在屏幕环绕的环境中,它们为我们提供了便利、联系和海量信息。 B。 2.What does the underlined word “unplug” in Paragraph 2 mean? A.Recover. B.Benefit. C.Prevent. D.Suffer. 可知,此处列举了“数字排毒”的不同做法;根据画线词前的“Some even pay high prices to take vacations in places”可知,人们选择去度假也是为了远离数字生活。 C。 3.Which could be the reason for one to start “digital detox”? A.Apps selection difficulty. B.Fear of missing important things. C.Exposure to false news. D.Pressure from social comparison. 根据第三段中的“Perhaps social media ... that other people are enjoying.” D。 4.What is the purpose of the text? A.To recommend healthy lifestyles. B.To call for reducing the use of digital devices. C.To give instructions on starting digital detox. D.To present different attitudes to digital products. B。 B The production and distribution (分布,配送) of food accounts for a third of the world's total greenhouse gas emissions approximately. But as a consumer, it's difficult to measure the climate influence of what you eat. An app called Evocco could soon make it a__cinch. “It lets you track, improve and offset (抵消) the climate effect of your food purchases,” the founder Hugh Weldon says. Users simply photograph their grocery receipt (票据) using the Evocco app, which identifies the food products by reading the printed text. It then works out the carbon footprint based on the store's location and by checking the type, weight and origin of a food. The app also gives users the option to offset their shopping by contributing to Go Carbon Neutral, an Irish notformoney project that plants native woodland. As well as the immediate influence of offsetting groceries, Evocco hopes to raise public awareness of the carbon footprint of different foods. Some factors are well known—for instance, animal products are more resourceconcentrated than plantbased food, and also importing products increases their carbon footprint—but the app also helps identify other important differences between items, such as seasonality or whether refrigeration (fridge) was required. It also offers tips on how to reduce shopping emissions. The app has been downloaded more than 1,000 times since its launch. Apart from the app, Evocco is developing a digital tool to sell to ecommerce (电商) and delivery platforms that will track the climate impact of a product's journey through the supply chain. The aim is to help provide climate impact information directly for consumers, while also giving Evocco product data to improve its app. 5.What does the underlined part “a cinch”in Paragraph 1 mean? A.A huge success. B.An easy task. C.A great challenge. D.An official standard. 根据第一段中的“But as a consumer ... make it a__cinch.” B。 6.What might Evocco suggest users buy? A.Local seasonal fruits. B.Local refrigerated meat. C.Imported cold chain meat. D.Imported seasonal vegetables. A。 7.What will Evocco's digital tool be used for? A.Finding ways to reduce the carbon footprint. B.Promoting the food industry on ecommerce platforms. C.Monitoring products' climate impact during transportation. D.Helping retailers access uptodate information about consumers. 根据最后一段中的“Apart from ... through the supply chain.” C。 8.What can be the best title for the text? A.Why grocery stores are bad for the environment? B.What to buy at grocery stores for the lowest carbon footprint? C.Go Carbon Neutral helps offset your shopping's carbon footprint D.An app can work out your carbon footprint from your grocery receipt 答案:D 解析:标题判断题。 As digital devices have taken over society, “keyboard activity” is now often recommended as a substitute (替代物) for early handwriting, a new study notes. __1__. “Some schools in Norway have become completely digital,” notes Audrey Vander Meer, the new study's leader, who works at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim. __2__. The human brain has developed to interact with the world in as many ways as possible, she notes. She believes that young children should learn to write by hand successfully, and, at the same time learn to manage a keyboard. __3__. Her new findings prove this. This is because writing and printing involve complex movements that activate more areas of the brain. The increased brain activity, “gives the brain more ‘hooks’ to hang your memories on,” she explains. Think about it. The same movement is required to type each letter on a keyboard. By comparison, when we write, our brain needs to think about and recover memories of each letter. __4__. And we need to control our hands to press a pen or pencil to shape the different letters. All of these use and connect more areas of the brain. Along the way, these processes appear to “open the brain up for learning”, says Vander Meer. __5__. She expresses her worries. Vander Meer also points out that taking notes by hand stimulates “visual notetaking”. Rather than typing blindly, the visual notetaker has to think about what is important to write down. Then, key words can be “interlinked (互连的) by boxes, and arrows, and supplemented by small drawings”. A.Young kids should learn several basic drawing skills B.It is believed that typing may be easier for young children C.Using a pen involves more of the brain than using a keyboard D.It has to be done by hand, not necessarily typing on a keyboard E.So learning through only one format—digital—could be harmful F.She measures brain activity to better understand learning and behaviors G.It is also necessary for us to use our eyes to watch what shapes we are writing 1.答案:B 解析:根据上文“As digital devices have taken over society ... a new study notes.(一项新的研究指出,随着数字设备已经占领社会,‘键盘活动’现在经常被推荐作为早期手写的替代物。)”和第二段首句“Some schools in Norway have become completely digital”可知,B项(人们认为打字对小孩更容易)承上启下。故选B。 2. 3.答案:C 解析:下文“Her new findings prove this ... more areas of the brain.” 5.答案:E 解析:根据下文“She expresses her worries.” 【持续背记】 ①It's not uncommon to see a black cat portrayed in a spooky and tense environment. ②She started to giggle, but Bob quelled her with a look. ③Having participated in several similar activities, I know well how to handle emergencies. 【持续积累】 portray/pɔː'treI/v. 描绘,描写 giggle/'ɡIɡl/v. 咯咯地笑,傻笑 quell/kwel/v. 制止,镇压 participate/pɑː'tIsIpeIt/v. 参加,参与 emergency/I'mɜːdʒənsi/n. 答案:secondary 2.I am also looking ________ (急迫地) at how we can strengthen the law. 答案:urgently 3.I had been an ________ (教育工作者) in three different countries for about ten years. 答案:educator 4.The legal aid system should be more ________ (易懂的) to people. 答案:accessible 5.The most ________ (有说服力的) evidence of black holes comes from research into binary star systems. 1.The Chinese government's actions fully reflect the purpose of serving people heart ________ soul. 答案:and 2.Some dinosaurs evolved into birds in order to adapt themselves ________ the changing environment. 答案:to 3.This is an original play, not an ________ (adapt). 答案:adaptation 4.The best approach for me is to behave differently ________ the intention of changing the way I think. 答案:with 5.I've been trying to convince him ________ (see) a doctor. 答案:to see Ⅲ 用括号内所给词汇,写出一个语段 (intention, expand, urgently, tendency, facilitate) 答案:For__anyone__with__tendency__or__at__risk__of__suffocation,__first__aid__is_ _urgently__needed,__which__will__facilitate__in__normal__breathing.__Whether__you__do__it__with__intention__or__not,__the__kindness__can__be__expanded. If a pancake could dream, it might long for legs so it could jump off your breakfast plate in pursuit of a better, unchewed life. But legs aren't necessary for something as flat as a pancake to jump around. A group of scientists have designed a pancakeshaped robot that can jump several times per second and higher than seven times its body height. The new robot named Hop, which swiftly jumps without feet, is an important contribution to the soft robotics. Many ground robots move by rolling or walking. But it's more efficient for robots to jump over obstacles than to go around them. Although jumping can offer some robots a competitive edge, engineering that ability has been a challenge for robotics researchers. Some soft robots that store energy can perform a single impressive jump very infrequently. Some lightweight soft robots that don't store energy can jump frequently but can't jump high or far enough to successfully cross an obstacle. For inspiration, the researchers looked to gall midge larvae (瘿蚊幼虫) that miraculously throw themselves across distances 30 times as long as their loglike bodies. A gall midge larva bends its body and squeezes the liquid in its body to one end, making it rigid. The accumulation of liquid builds up pressure, and releasing the pressure sends it soaring. The robot's body doesn't resemble that of a gall midge larva, but it jumps like one. Its body is made of two small plastic bags printed with electrodes (电极); the front bag is filled with liquid and the back one is filled with the same volume of air. The robot uses electricity to drive the flow of liquid, which causes the body to bend and generate force with the ground, resulting in a jump. And the air bag imitates the function of an animal's tail, helping the robot maintain a stable position. While the robot is currently restricted to Earth, it might be right at home exploring another planet. If this is true, the researchers' robot might jump over dusty rocks and large holes on the moon or Mars, going where no pancake has gone before. 1.What does the author want to show by mentioning a pancake? A.A pancake's dream to have legs is unrealistic. B.A robot is capable of serving a good pancake. C.A pancakeshaped robot can jump without legs. D.Research on pancakes advances our understanding of robots. 根据第一段中的“But legs aren't necessary ... robot that can jump(但是对于像煎饼这样扁平的东西来说,腿并不是跳跃的必要条件。 C。 2.What difficultly do robotics researchers have in developing Hop according to Paragraph 2? A.Hop's avoiding an obstacle. B.Hop's moving around by rolling. C.Hop's performing one remarkable jump. D.Hop's jumping high and far continuously. D。 3.What inspiration do the researchers draw from gall midge larvae? A.They are shaped like logs. B.They have tails to change positions. C.They bend their bodies and increase force. D.They are filled with liquid and have rigid bodies. C。 4.What is the author's attitude to the future of the new robot? A.Intolerant. B.Positive. C.Doubtful. D.Unclear. Chalk used in school classrooms comes in thin sticks. Lessons are often presented to entire classes on chalkboards (or blackboards, as they were originally called) using sticks of chalk. __1__ As found in nature, chalk has been used for drawing since prehistoric times. And it helped to create some of the earliest cave drawings. Later, artists of different countries and styles used chalk mainly for sketches (素描), and some such drawings have survived. __2__ The method was to grind (碾碎) natural chalk to a fine powder, then add water, clay, and various dry colors. It was then rolled into stick shape and dried. __3__ Class sizes began to increase at that time. Therefore, teachers needed a convenient way of conveying information to many students at one time. Not only did instructors use large blackboards, but students also worked with personal chalkboards, completing with chalk sticks and a sponge or cloth to use as an eraser. These small chalkboards were used for practice, especially among the younger students. An important change in the nature of classroom chalk brought was in chalkboards. Blackboards used to be black, because they were made from true slate (石板). While some experts advocated a change to yellow chalkboards and dark blue or purple chalk to copy writing on paper, when makers began to shape chalkboards from synthetic (合成的) materials during the 20th century, they chose the color green, arguing that it was easier on the eyes. __4__ Almost all chalk produced today is dustless. Earlier, softer chalk tended to produce a cloud of dust that some feared might contribute to breathing problems. __5__ It's just that the dust settles faster. A.Dustless chalk still produces dust. B.Yellow became the preferred color for chalk. C.Paper made only from rags at this time was expensive. D.That's because this method has been proven cheap and easy. E.Chalk was first formed into sticks for the convenience of artists. F.Baking chalk longer to harden it more helps to produce less dust. G.Chalk didn't become standard in schoolrooms until the 19th century. 1.答案:D 解析:根据设空前“Lessons are often ... using sticks of chalk.” 且D项中的this method指前文中的using sticks of chalk。故选D。 2.答案:E 解析:根据设空前“Later, artists of different countries and styles used chalk mainly for sketches (素描)”可知,后来,不同国家和风格的艺术家使用粉笔作画。 3.答案:G 解析:根据后文“Class sizes began ... at one time.” G项中的until the 19th century指后文中的at that time。故选G。 4.答案:B 解析:根据前文“during the 20th century, they chose the color green, arguing that it was easier on the eyes”可知,出于对眼睛的考虑,二十世纪黑板的颜色变成了绿色。 5.答案:A 解析:后文“It's just that the dust settles faster.(只不过是粉尘沉降得更快而已。)” 故选A。 My father asked me to chat with him for a while. Actually, I was unwilling to listen to his talking endlessly as he always did. My father was a lawyer, but I never wanted to go to law school or follow his path through life. As was expected, he cleared his throat and started to say, “Er ... What ... What do you really want to do in the gorgeous (灿烂的) future?” I was silent for a moment playing with the cell phone. I kept thinking, “Should I tell him my true thoughts? What if he gets angry? What if I let him down?” Later I replied, “Well, I want to be a writer.” I guessed this may be not the answer he would expect. But surprisingly, “Interesting idea!” he answered. I was shocked, speaking in a low voice with hesitation. “Are you serious, Dad?” “Well, you need confidence and good preparations, and you still have plenty of time. You need to find out what you really enjoy now. Look, it's late. Let's take the boat out tomorrow morning, just you and me. Maybe we can catch some crabs (螃蟹) for dinner, and we can talk more.” Early next morning we packed up the equipment and set off for the coast. We didn't talk much, but enjoyed the sound of the seabirds and the sight of the coastline. There were no big waves and blinding sunlight at that time. “Let's see if we are lucky,” he said, picked up a web basket with a rope tied and threw it into the sea. We waited a while, then my father stood up and said, “Give me a hand with this,” and we pulled up the crab cage onto the deck. To our joy, the cage was filled with dozens of soft shell crabs. Squatting (蹲) down, we watched them for a moment. At first they fought against each other to climb out hard, trying to escape. Many were pulled back into the cage. Later, some gave up, but there were still some crabs trying to escape again and again. At that moment, my father pointed to the cage, “Look at that crab, there!” From that day on, I was determined to make my dream come true. [精彩范文] At that moment, my father pointed to the cage, “Look at that crab, there!” Staring at the crab, I found that every time he wanted to escape, he was pulled back into the cage. However, he didn't give up his fight. Fortunately, he survived from the struggle eventually. Shocked and amazed, I suddenly understood why my father had suggested catching crabs that morning. I thought the future would be filled with many possibilities. Everyone would need to find out what he enjoyed and held on to it. From that day on, I was determined to make my dream come true. Besides my devotion to school work, I spent all my spare time making full preparations for becoming a writer. Reading, collecting materials and writing made my life busy but fulfilled, which laid a good foundation for me. Meanwhile, I contributed to literature journals. Gradually, some achievements as a writer increased my confidence. I always think of the crab whenever faced with difficulties. What my father said also encouraged me on my way to success. Now I am grateful for sticking to the thing I truly dreamed of. 【持续背记】 ①The poem conveys his deep reverence for nature. ②Thanks to advanced technology, we will make greater achievements in other fields, bringing about convenience in every aspect of people's life. ③I had made it as plain as I could so that he could not fail to take my meaning. 方面 plain/pleIn/adj. 明白的;清楚的 fail/feIl/v.
