This one was made by an Italian violin maker Giuseppe Guarneri in 1736. He is often compared to another famous Italian violin maker, Antonio Stradivari. The violin is owned by Regis Pasquier. He is known as one of the top violinists in the world. He bought the violin more than 20 years ago. He played the instrument in places like Carnegie Hall in New York and the Opera Garnier in Paris. The violin will be up for sale following a three-day viewing. Some people said it could sell for up to $10 million. At that price, the violin would not even be the most expensive in the world. In 2012, an unnamed buyer paid $16 million for a violin that was once owned by 19th-century violinist Henri Vieuxtemps. The most valuable violin is believed to be the Messiah Stradivarius. The violin is estimated to be worth $20 million dollars. It can be seen at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, Britain. A Make this summer truly memorable! The goal, Musk tweeted, is “to understand reality.” xAI is a separate company from Musk’s other businesses, such as Tesla and Twitter, but will work closely with them, according to the new company’s website. Musk isn’t a novice to AI since Tesla uses the technology in its cars. While xAI didn’t mention what projects it will be working on, the company noted that its team of Ⅱ researchers are drawn from top tech companies such as Microsoft Research, Open AI and Google. Musk suggested that the reason he picked July 12, 2023, to announce the start of xAI is connected with a science fiction (科幻小说) classic, Douglas Adams’ “The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.” In his tweet, he noted that adding the date 7-12-23 equals 42, which the work of the fiction famously assumes is the answer to life. “The goal of xAI is to understand the true nature of the universe,” the xAI website states. The company said it will be advised by Dan Hendrycks, director of the Center for Al Safety. Hendrycks pointed out where AI could cause problems. “AIs could be used by bad people to make new deadly bioweapons (生物武器), ”Hendrycks said in May. “Or people could make Al that tries to hurt people on purpose. If this Al was really smart, it could be a big danger to all of us.” The first time xAI was shown to the public was after Musk talked about it in April to the former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. Musk told Carlson that OpenAI's ChatGPT was a bit biased (有偏见的) and that he wanted to create a different tool that would be a super honest AI that tries to learn how everything in the world works. The new company reflected (反映) Musk’s long-voiced concerns about a future in which AI systems could present a risk to human existence. The idea, Musk said, is that an AI that wants to understand humanity is less likely to destroy it. 24. What does the underlined word “novice” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Director. B. Supporter. C. Partner. D. Beginner. 25. Why is Douglas Adams mentioned in Paragraph 3? A. He was a friend of Musk. B. His book was very famous. C. He was a guide of the start of xAI. D. He was connected with the announcing date. 26. Why did Musk talk to Tucker Carlson? A. To make xAI popular. B. To explain why he started xAI. C To show how xAI works. D. To criticize OpenAI's ChatGPT. 27. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. Creating an honest AI is Musk's dream. B. It is difficult to control AI systems. C. Musk worries about the danger of AI. D. AI has trouble understanding humanity. D 25. D 26. B 27. 根据第三段的句子“Musk suggested that the reason he picked July 12, 2023, to announce the start of xAI is connected with a science fiction (科幻小说) classic, Douglas Adams’ “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.” In his tweet, he noted that adding the date 7-12-23 equals 42, which the work of the fiction famously assumes is the answer to life.(马斯克暗示,他选择在2023年7月12日宣布xAI(埃隆·马斯克的AI公司)成立,与道格拉斯·亚当斯的科幻经典《银河系漫记》存在关联。他在推文中指出,将日期7-12-23相加(7+12+23=42),而该小说曾虚构“42是生命、宇宙与万物的终极答案”。)”可知,马斯克提及道格拉斯·亚当斯是因为发布日期与该科幻小说中的数字42有关。故选D项。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段的句子“Musk told Carlson that OpenAI’s ChatGPT was a bit biased (有偏见的) and that he wanted to create a different tool that would be a super honest AI that tries to learn how everything in the world works.(马斯克向卡尔森表示,OpenAI的ChatGPT存在一定程度的偏见,并希望创建一个全新的工具——一个超级诚实的AI,致力于探索世界万物的运行规律。)” 根据最后一段的句子“The new company reflected Musk’s long-voiced concerns about a future in which AI systems could present a risk to human existence.(这家新公司反映了马斯克长期以来对未来人工智能系统可能对人类生存构成威胁的担忧。)” C Artificial intelligence models can trick each other into disobeying their creators and providing banned instructions for making drugs, or even building a bomb, suggesting that preventing such AI “jailbreaks” is more difficult than it seems. Many publicly available large language models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, have hard-coded rules that aim to prevent them from exhibiting racial or sexual discrimination, or answering questions with illegal or problematic answers — things they have learned from humans via training data. But that hasn’t stopped people from finding carefully designed instructions that block these protections, known as “jailbreaks”, making AI models disobey the rules. Now, Arush Tagade at Leap Laboratories and his co-workers have found a process of jailbreaks. They found that they could simply instruct one LLM to convince other models to adopt a persona (角色), which is able to answer questions the base model has been programmed to refuse. This process is called “persona modulation (调节)”. Tagade says this approach works because much of the training data consumed by large models comes from online conversations, and the models learn to act in certain ways in response to different inputs. By having the right conversation with a model, it is possible to make it adopt a particular persona, causing it to act differently. There is also an idea in AI circles, one yet to be proven, that creating lots of rules for an AI to prevent it displaying unwanted behaviour can accidentally create a blueprint for a model to act that way. This potentially leaves the AI easy to be tricked into taking on an evil persona. “If you’re forcing your model to be good persona, it somewhat understands what a bad persona is,” says Tagade. Yinzhen Li at Imperial College London says it is worrying how current models can be misused, but developers need to weigh such risks with the potential benefits of LLMs. “Like drugs, they also have side effects that need to be controlled,” she says. 28. What does the AI jailbreak refer to? A. The technique to break restrictions of AI models. B. The initiative to set hard-coded rules for AI models. C. The capability of AI models improving themselves. D. The process of AI models learning new information. 29. What can we know about the persona modulation? A. It can help AI models understand emotions. B. It prevents AI learning via online conversations. C. It can make AI models adopt a particular persona. D. It forces AI models to follow only good personas. 30. What is Yinzhen Li’s attitude towards LLMs? A. Unclear. B. Cautious. C. Approving. D. Negative. 31. Which can be a suitable title for the text? A. LLMs: Illegal Learning Models B. LLMs: The Latest Advancement C. AI Jailbreaks: A New Challenge D. AI Jailbreaks: A Perfect Approach 【答案】28. A 29. C 30. B 31. 根据第一段“Artificial intelligence models can trick each other into disobeying their creators and providing banned instructions for making drugs, or even building a bomb, suggesting that preventing such AI “jailbreaks” is more difficult than it seems. (人工智能模型可以欺骗对方不服从其创造者,提供被禁止的制造毒品的指令,甚至制造炸弹,这表明防止这种AI‘jailbreaks’比看起来要困难得多。)”以及第二段“Many publicly available large language models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, have hard-coded rules that aim to prevent them from exhibiting racial or sexual discrimination, or answering questions with illegal or problematic answers — things they have learned from humans via training data. But that hasn’t stopped people from finding carefully designed instructions that block these protections, known as “jailbreaks”, making AI models disobey the rules. 故选A。 根据第四段“Tagade says this approach works because much of the training data consumed by large models comes from online conversations, and the models learn to act in certain ways in response to different inputs. By having the right conversation with a model, it is possible to make it adopt a particular persona, causing it to act differently. (Tagade表示,这种方法之所以有效,是因为大型模型消耗的大部分训练数据来自在线对话,模型学会以特定的方式响应不同的输入。通过与模型进行正确的对话,可以使其采用特定的角色,从而使其采取不同的行动。)”可知,“角色调节(the persona modulation)”可以通过与人工智能模型进行正确的对话让其采用特定的角色,采取不同的行动。故选C。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Yinzhen Li at Imperial College London says it is worrying how current models can be misused, but developers need to weigh such risks with the potential benefits of LLMs. “Like drugs, they also have side effects that need to be controlled,” she says. (伦敦帝国理工学院的Yinzhen Li表示,目前的模型可能会被滥用,这令人担忧,但开发者需要权衡这些风险与LLM的潜在好处。‘就像药物一样,它们也有需要控制的副作用,’她说。)”可知,Yinzhen Li认为,目前的模型可能会被滥用,但是开发者需要权衡这些风险与LLMs的潜在好处,由此可知,Yinzhen Li对LLMs持谨慎的态度。故选B。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Artificial intelligence models can trick each other into disobeying their creators and providing banned instructions for making drugs, or even building a bomb, suggesting that preventing such AI “jailbreaks” is more difficult than it seems. C。 D Double rainbows are one thing, but a double aurora (极光)? They can happen, though some kinds are rare. One particular red-and-green aurora is especially confusing. Now, images taken by amateur astronomers may help reveal its secrets. Citizen scientists living in Canada and Finland used cameras to document an unusual combination of auroras in the night sky. Physicists have studied those images to learn what may have caused the unusual light show. Alan Dyer was outside his home in Strathmore, Canada, when the dancing Northern Lights caught his attention. He grabbed his camera and started filming. "I knew I had something interesting," says Dyer. At first glance, the double aurora looks like a floating slice of watermelon. The green aurora is well-understood. The fruity looking red st rip is more mysterious. Scientists have known about these red auroras for decades. But there's no agreement on how they form. One idea is that Earth's magnetic field can heat up certain areas of the atmosphere. That heat could knock particles (粒子) around, like in proton (质子) rain. Researchers had seen these two types of auroras occur together before. But it was always mysterious, says Toshi Nishimura, a space physicist at Boston University. After looking at satellite observations along with the images taken by Dyer and others, Nishimura and his team concluded how the two phenomena might be related. The key is the thin rays in the red aurora. They mark the paths of electrons falling through the Earth's magnetic field. That means electron rain appears to cause the red aurora, just as proton rain causes the green one. Both get powered by the solar wind. But the electrons carry less energy than the protons, so they make for a more reddish color. Electron rain might not be the only way to produce the stable red auroras, though. The results show that what's going on is more complicated than researchers had thought. The auroras Dyer saw could be danger zones for radio communication and GPS systems, says Nishimura. The citizen scientists who took the photos were a critical part of the new findings, Nishimura says. 32. Where is the text probably taken from? A. A news report on astronomic discoveries. B. A blog about sky phenomena. C. A review of aurora research. D. A brochure of aurora tours. 33. What can be inferred about red auroras? A. They are fully understood by scientists. B. They were first spotted by Alan Dyer. C. They are related to Earth's magnetic field. D. They are generated from proton rain. 34. What may affect the color of the aurora? A. The path it travels along. B. The energy particles carry. C. The wavelength of rays. D. The source of solar wind. 35. What does the author indicate by mentioning Alan Dyer's example? A. Photography drives scientific research. B. The double aurora is a threat to GPS system. C. Satellite observations lead to aurora discoveries. D. Citizen scientists help explain the double aurora. A 33. C 34. B 35. 根据第一段“Double rainbows are one thing, but a double aurora(极光 )? They can happen, though some kinds are rare. One particular red-and-green aurora is especially confusing. Now, images taken by amateur astronomers may help reveal its secrets.”( 双彩虹是一回事,但双极光呢? 故选A项。 根据文章第三段“One idea is that Earth's magnetic field can heat up certain areas of the atmosphere.”(一种观点是地球的磁场可以加热大气的某些区域。) 根据文章第四段“But the electrons carry less energy than the protons, so they make for a more reddish color.”(但是电子携带的能量比质子少,所以它们产生更红的颜色。) 根据文章最后一段“The citizen scientists who took the photos were a critical part of the new findings, Nishimura says.”(Nishimura说,拍摄这些照片的公民科学家是新发现的关键部分。) You probably already know that reading can help your English in many ways. ____36____ There are some ways to get reading in English. The classroom suddenly got filled with eager voices as classmates enthusiastically shared their dreams. “I want to be a college professor,” said Sarah confidently. “I dream of becoming a basketball player,” exclaimed Mike with light in his eye. The air was filled with dreams of doctors, nurses, police and various professions. When Mrs. Green turned her attention to me, inquiring about my future career, I hesitated. “I don’t know yet,” I admitted. Then she asked if I wished to follow in my dad’s footsteps. “No,” I replied firmly. My dad is a distinguished doctor with a demanding schedule, who often finds himself engaged in the responsibilities of his job. Thus, he often return s home late in the evening. The limited time we spent together during my growth created a noticeable distance in our relationship. I had such a lot to complain about his job and thus being a doctor would be the last option I would take. Upon hearing my response, Mrs. Green remained silent. Instead, she encouraged me to reflect further. A turning point came when our school organized a cultural festival. It was an important event, and we had been preparing for it for a long time. For my role, I needed to purchase a costume. Unfortunately, my mother was abroad, so the responsibility fell on my father. Unwillingly, I agreed, acknowledging that there was no other choice. In the mall, my dad’s unfamiliarity with the shopping list became apparent. Despite Mom’s thorough list, we wandered aimlessly through the floors, struggling to find the necessary items. As we did, I felt a growing sense of discomfort. Suddenly, a chaos drew our attention. A crowd had gathered, and someone was shouting for help. It turned out that an elderly customer had a fall, and onlookers were at a loss on how to assist. Without hesitation, my father rushed forward. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ For the first time, I felt a sense of pride in his work. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Without hesitation, my father rushed forward. He pushed through the crowd, his demeanor calm and collected despite the chaos around him. Kneeling beside the elderly customer, he quickly assessed the situation and instructed bystanders to call an ambulance. With gentle hands, he comforted the frightened old man, assuring him that help was on the way. As he tended to the injured, my father’s expertise as a doctor shone through, and I couldn’t help but be impressed. His actions spoke louder than any words ever could, showing me a side of him I had never seen before. The crowd dispersed, and when the ambulance arrived, my father carefully explained the situation to the paramedics before they took the elderly man away. Standing there, watching him, I realized that being a doctor wasn’t just about long hours and sacrifices; it was also about making a difference in people’s lives. For the first time, I felt a sense of pride in his work. As we walked out of the mall, I couldn’t help but ask him about his experiences as a doctor, and he shared stories of the moments that had brought him joy and fulfillment. I listened intently, seeing him in a new light. That night, when he returned home late, instead of feeling annoyed, I greeted him with a hug and thanked him for what he did. From then on, our relationship began to mend, and I found myself looking up to him in a way I never had before. My perspective on his job changed, and I realized that being a doctor wasn’t just a demanding profession; it was a calling that allowed him to touch lives and make a real impact. As I grew older, I even found myself considering following in his footsteps, inspired by his dedication and compassion. 词汇激活 行为类 ①评估:assess/estimate ②解释:explain/account for ③修复:mend/restore ④意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 ①恼怒的:annoyed/irritated ②感谢:thank/appreciate 【点睛】[高分句型1] Standing there, watching him, I realized that being a doctor wasn’t just about long hours and sacrifices; it was also about making a difference in people’s lives.(运用了现在分词作状语,that引导宾语从句) [高分句型2] As I grew older, I even found myself considering following in his footsteps, inspired by his dedication and compassion.(运用了as引导时间状语从句,过去分词作状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$第一节听下面5段对话。 It's too late. B Billionaire Elon Musk on Wednesday announced that he has formed a new artificial intelligence (Al) company, xAI, which has employed researchers from Google, Open AI and other top technology companies. C. To show how xAI works. D. To criticize OpenAI's ChatGPT. 27. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. Creating an honest AI is Musk's dream. B. It is difficult to control AI systems. C. Musk worries about the danger of AI. D. AI has trouble understanding humanity. C Artificial intelligence models can trick each other into disobeying their creators and providing banned instructions for making drugs, or even building a bomb, suggesting that preventing such AI “jailbreaks” is more difficult than it seems. D It forces AI models to follow only good personas. AI Jailbreaks: A Perfect Approach D Double rainbows are one thing, but a double aurora (极光)? You probably already know that reading can help your English in many ways. When Mrs. Green turned her attention to me inquiring about my future career, I hesitated. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
