阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A. B. C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Currently, there’s no shortage of tasks today’s cell phones can’t accomplish, but there’s a newly discovered downside to mobile phone use: It might be making you less attractive. Here’s how to avoid everything from turkey necks to bags under your eyes caused by your faithful phone.
Dark Cireles
You may feel like you must be available by phone around the clock, which in tum leads to sleeping problems showing up on your face—dark circles and bags. While there are lots of products on the market that can help, it’s best to just shut down the cell phone before getting into bed, or leave it in another room.
Bad Skins
Cell phones carry 18 times more harmful bacteria than a public toilet handle does. Considering that your cell phone is often pressed up against your face several times per day, that bacteria can easily make the jump to your skin, leading to breakouts and infections. To clean the oil on your cell phones from where you touch your hair and faces, you can use an alcohol swab (消毒棉) and wipe your cell phones down at least once a day.
Sagging Jawline
Constantly looking down at your cell phone to check your emails, or play a game can lead to a saggy (松垂的), wrinkled neck and jawline, known as turkey neck. The only way to better this condition is surgery. However, you can avoid the costly consequence of this disorder by holding your cell phone in front of you, rather than below.
Red Eyes
Staring at your cell phone screen for hours on end can cause your eyes to not only dry out, but also become extremely red. Red eyes are caused by swollen or widened blood vessels on the sclera (巩膜) and can be avoided in this case by taking frequent breaks from your cell phone screen.
1. What’s the best solution to dark circles?
A. Frequent facial care. B. Regular sleep patters.
C. Mobile phone distancing. D. Correct working postures.
2. Why do cell phones cause skin problem?
A. They cannot be cleaned. B. They make skins dry out.
C. They cause face wounds. D. They facilitate bacteria transfer.
3. What may it cause when you lower your head too long?
A. Sagging jawline. B. Red eyes. C. Dark circles. D. Bad skins.

Keenly aware of human impact on the environment, Spanish artist Almudena Romero is using her unique plant-based art to show it’s possible to create art in an eco-friendly manner.
Now her four-chapter series called “The Pigment Change” is in exhibition in London and Paris. Rather than develop photos on photographic paper, she prints them directly onto plants. “I just put a negative (底片) on top of the leaf and leave it to the sunlight, and then the image gets recorded on the leaf,” Romero said. “But I also print on living plants using a digital projector, and the plant makes photosynthesis (光合作用) with the light from the projector and records an image.”
Raised in Madrid, Romero said learning from her grandmother about the plants on her orange farm when she was young implanted in her mind the eco-conscious values she embraces today.
But she admits that her eco-friendly techniques wouldn’t work for all artists. “It’s a lot more difficult to be financially sustainable when your art is temporary but I guess it’s also depending on how you understand life and what you want to do with your practice,” she explained.
For Romero, plants are more than something to look after; they are beings we can learn from. “Plants have been around for way longer than us on the planet and they have succeeded in doing that without causing any extinction,” she said.
Besides, we should challenge the idea that humans are the most important beings. The truth is all living organisms have their values and their own agendas and intentions. The artist explained that she sees plants respond and adapt to light changes throughout the seasons. “Yet we tend to think that only humans have these abilities until science proves the opposite.” said Romero.
She won the BMW Residency Award for the project. Now, collaborating with scientist Nicolas Langlade, with the help of AI, Romero is working on her next project due to be completed by June 2025. For Romero, this art-science project is like coming full circle. “I love my passion for plant photography.” she said, “I’m really happy about plant photography.”
4. What is truly unique about Almudena Romero’s artistic practice?
A. She paints her childhood landscape. B. She records images on plants with light.
C. She prints plants on photographic paper. D. She attaches the photos to the top of leaves.
5 Which of the following best describe Romero’s art?
A. Creative and profitable. B. Momentary but unique.
C. Practical and far-reaching. D. Eco-friendly but time-consuming.
6. What can we learn about plants and humans according to Romero?
A. Plants are less important than humans. B. Humans are more adaptable than plants.
C. Plants also have their own rules and meanings. D. Humans should allow plants to grow naturally.
7. Which can be a suitable tile for this text?
A. The Art-Science Project: The Future of Photography.
B. The Art-Science Project: An Integration of Technology and Art.
C. Almudena Romero: A Journey from Traditional to Modem Art.
D. Almudena Romero: Plant-Based Art with Eco-Friendly Vision.

Rosamund Pike delivered one of the most accomplished performances of the past few years in 2018’s A Private War, in which she played journalist Marie Colvin. In Radioactive, Pike brings the same level of stable commitment to an alternately fascinating and disappointing biopic (传记片) about French scientist Marie Curie.
Based on Lauren Redniss’s graphic novel (图像小说), Radioactive covers the well-known achievements of Marie Curie: her Nobel Prize for discovering radium and polonium, and her groundbreaking research on radioactivity. For those unfamiliar with her personal life, the film reveals lesser-known aspects, including her passionate partnership with her husband Pierre, a disgraceful affair that damaged her reputation, and her Polish roots, which made her an outsider in Paris. Though not an activist, Curie’s determination to be respected in a male-dominated scientific world aligns with women’s rights advocacy.
Directed by Marjane Satrapi, Radioactive attempts to translate the bold visuals and narrative style of a graphic novel into a vivid movie with mixed results. The film is visually striking, thanks to Anthony Dod Mantle’s filming skills — the glowing green radium is both stunning and tragic. Yet the storytelling lacks fluency when Satrapi inserts surreal time jumps, showing how Curie’s discoveries later influenced both medicine and warfare.
Pike delivers a strong performance, portraying Curie as brilliant but difficult; admirable yet not always likable. However, the film struggles with its uneven structure, shifting between biography and symbolic scenes that feel out of place. The irony of Curie’s story is that she hated suffering, yet her work led to both life-saving treatments and destructive weapons.
Ultimately, Radioactive’s biggest flaw may be its source material. The fragmented (碎片化的) style of the graphic novel doesn’t fully translate to film, leaving the story feeling uneven. While Pike’s performance and Curie’s legendary life make the movie worth watching, the execution (执行) falls short of its potential.
8. What is the primary subject of the film Radioactive?
A. The life story of journalist Marie Colvin. B. The history of radium and nuclear warfare.
C. A fictional story about a Polish scientist in Paris. D. Marie Curie’s achievements and personal struggle.
9. What does the underlined words aligns with in paragraph 2 likely mean?
A. weighs up. B. shrinks from. C. harmonizes with. D. interferes with.
10. What criticism does the passage highlight about Radioactive?
A. The actress’ performance is unconvincing.
B. Curie’s scientific discoveries are inaccurate.
C. The film is a flawed translation from page to screen.
D. The film fails to address Curie’s influence on equal rights.
11. Which section of a newspaper is this passage possibly from?
A. Health & Wealth. B. Opinions & Thoughts.
C. Agendas & Events. D. Technology & Gadgets.

The thick-trunk, tiny-branch baobab tree, which dots Madagascar’s landscape, should not, by rights, have survived to the present day, as its former seed-distributing animals went extinct 1000 years ago. However, it did. Seheno Andriantsaralaza at the University of Antananarivo in Madagascar and Onja Razafindratsima at the University of California, Berkeley, now think they may know the reason.
Together with their colleagues, the scientists monitored 15 trees to specify new baobab seed-distributing animals in the region. They also set up camera traps around seed-containing fruits, and searched any feces (粪便) along the way for the presence of seeds.
They report in the journal Biotropica that a native rat was caught on camera handing whole fruits on four occasions. Although there was no record of the rat breaking the fruits open, the team found 13 fruits that had been chewed into and had the seeds removed. Though the bite marks were not clear enough to identify the animal, this was clear evidence that a seed-distributing one was out there. They then found convincing evidence: baobab seeds in seven different piles of bush-pig feces.
The discovery is not without irony. Scientists believe bush pigs were brought to Madagascar by humans somewhere between 1,000 and 5,000 years ago, just as the former seed-distributing animals were going extinct. Their arrival was a lucky break for the baobabs, especially as scientists have determined a seed’s journey through the digestive system doesn’t harm its ability to grow.
While the finding is important in its own right, it also provides valuable evidence that introduced species may not be entirely harmful. Madagascar’s pigs, for example, though not native, have made themselves necessary to the survival of truly native species. Similar relationships are suspected to hold in South America between rabbits native to Europe and plants with no seed distributors. For Dr. Andriantsaralaza, that suggests the full ecological role of introduced species should be considered before the talk of eradication (根除) begins.
12. What is the reason that Madagascar baobab trees should have disappeared?
A. Lost habitats. B. Unsuitable climate.
C. Non-reproductive seeds. D. No seed-distributing animals.
13. Why did the researchers conduct the study?
A. To identify the seed carriers for baobabs. B. To explore baobabs’ survival conditions.
C. To determine if baobabs are endangered. D. To study how baobab seeds are distributed.
14. What convinced the researchers of the real seed carrier?
A. The seeds found in animal feces. B. The presence of chewed seeds.
C. The way whole fruits were handled. D. The unclear bite marks on the fruits.
15. What does the last paragraph imply about introduced species?
A. They rarely interact with native species. B. They may play unexpected essential roles.
C. They should be removed from local ecosystems. D. They are more harmful than previously believed.

There was a time when sewing and mending clothes was common. ____16____ Why have people stopped mending their clothing? Schools stopped offering home economics classes, technology boomed and fast fashion became increasingly popular. All of a sudden, it’s more inconvenient to fix something than it is to buy something new.
____17____ In the past few years, it seems there’s been growing interest in slow fashion — not only saving, but also sewing and mending. On one of the most pleasant comers of the internet, you’ll find lots of videos showcasing everything from visible mending to beginner sewing journeys.
Why should you learn to mend? Mending is a great way to reject consumerism. ____18____ That means shopping for quality items that will stand the least of time. Also, by learning a few key skills, you can repair those items as needed rather than sentence them to life in an already-overflowing landfill. It is also helpful to customize some items which might not be exactly the right size or a little out of date. ____19____
Beyond the functional benefits, mending is about using what you have, embracing imperfections, fixing what’s broken, and rejecting the idea that newer is better. ____20____ You focus on the task at hand and use your creativity to make your clothes unique. It’s meditative (冥想的), slow work. It’s productive, and deeply satisfying. And an added bonus: It’s sustainable.
If you are interested in sewing and mending, it is the perfect time to learn the new skill, which can especially have a positive impact on the world.
A. Yet there is still reason to hope.
B. Another aspect of mending is mindfulness.
C. It is also a means of maintaining a livelihood.
D. The result? You will get what feels uniquely yours.
E. Of course, the best thing you can do is buy less to begin with.
F. Buying secondhand goods makes it possible to be sustainable.
G. Without our awareness, though, it became something of a rarity.

I am driving on Highway 75 west of Atlanta. My wife Carolyn and I (both sixty-eight) are on our way to check out Tellico Village, a retirement community south of Knoxville. I am worried. I’m fine with our plans to move from our home in Florida. That’s not the problem. The problem is that we booked two nights in a private home through one of those Internet home-sharing services.
When Carolyn first mentioned the idea a month ago, I questioned why we couldn’t just stay at a motel like usual. She explained that this place was located right in Tellico Village, and we’d be staying with someone who could give us an insider’s view. I expressed concern about staying with a stranger, but Carolyn assured me our host Jo Ann had great reviews. I tried arguing about cost, but she countered that this was actually cheaper. When she suggested it would be nice to try something different, I diplomatically chose not to respond, knowing I’d already lost the argument.
Our GPS leads us more efficiently than I would have liked to the front door of our host’s home. If I could drag my feet outside the car to slow us down, I would. But here we are in a neighborhood of beautiful homes. Jo Ann has a lovely single-story house, well landscaped and with two large white rocking chairs waiting on a porch (门廊) decorated with flowers. The house is dark inside. It is 4: 00 p. m., the exact time we said we would arrive.
“So where is she?” I ask. I have a hint of “I told you so” in my voice. “Didn’t she confirm our arrival time?”
“Yes,” says Carolyn. She rings the doorbell. No answer.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右:
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

【答案】Dear Chris,
How are you? Last month, our school launched a “Weight Management Month” to promote healthy lifestyles. I’d love to share my experience with you!
The activities which was about healthy diet and daily workout were diverse. We attended nutrition lectures, shared ways of balancing our diets and joined fun sports like basketball and yoga. A highlight was the daily step-count challenge, where we tracked our progress using fitness apps.
Through this event, I realized the importance of regular exercise and mindful eating. Hope you’re doing well too. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Yours,
Li Hua

I dial Jo Ann’s number, thinking this wouldn’t have happened if we had booked a motel. Jo Ann answers. She apologizes for not being here to greet us. She says she has been trying to reach us to let us know she is attending a charity sale this evening. She tells me to look under the cushion of one of the rocking chairs on the porch for the house key. “Just make yourselves at home,” she says. “Feel free to use the living room, television, and back porch.” I am relieved. For the next several hours, we have a home away from home. The house is gorgeous, modern and tastefully furnished.
At 10: 00 p.m., I hear a key turn in the door and Jo Ann is back. She is a gracious and welcoming host. She apologizes again for not meeting us when we arrived. We have a long conversation about how she came to the village and her experience selecting and building her house. She even offers to put us in touch with a neighbor who is a Realtor if we decide to build or rent a home. We learn things about the Tellico Village from her that we would never have learned had we stayed at a motel. What little anxiety I have left vanishes. If I hadn’t endured the anxiety of “trying something different for a change,” we would still be staying at impersonal motels. And we may not have moved to Tellico Village, where we are now living, pleased with our decision.
