The human population of Sri Lanka is now believed to be over 20 million. As a result, large areas of trees are being turned into farmland, highways are being built, and elephants are being driven out of their habitats. This change causes turmoil, resulting in an increased number of uncontrollable events between elephants and humans.
The good news is that there is one place called the Elephant Transit Home(ETH) in Udawalawe National Park, the main purpose of which is to protect and care for baby elephants.A day at the ETH begins early in the morning when the baby elephants are given their first feeding of milk.During the course of the day, each baby will drink an average of 13 gallons of milk.Older elephants are fed mostly coconut leaves as well as other native plants. Then the elephants are set free to wander in the park.
The ETH spends almost $125,000 each year on powdered milk for these baby animals. To help pay for food and medical supplies, the ETH has a foster(领养) parent programme.Anyone, even schoolchildren, can help a lot by giving money to care for a baby elephant.Foster parents can name their elephants, take photographs of them, and even help send them back into the wild.
Now visitors are not encouraged to get close to the elephants. The goal of the ETH is for the elephants to return to the wild in the end.It usually takes three years for a baby elephant to be sent back into its natural habitat. This programme helps them return to the wild as members of a herd that will communicate with each other and take care of each other.
8.What does the underlined word “turmoil” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?

Our Trip to Xichong Beach
Last Saturday, our whole class had a great time out.We went to Xichong Beach, which is an ideal place for a weekend tour.
We got to the beach at nine in the morning when the sun just rose, and it felt so warm and good to bathe in the sun.We swam and played water in the sea and we sunbathed on the beach when we got a bit tired from swimming and playing. We had barbecue at noon. For some of us,it was the first time to have an outdoor barbecue, which we enjoyed so much.It is more fun than an indoor one, especially when it was on a beach where you were greeted by the blue sky, open sea and white beach sand.

I think that you are never going to be as happy as you were when you were little. There were no worries when you were little. The things that worried you most were not important things. My most memorable moments happened when I was a child.I can not remember a lot of them because I was very little but I remember the most exciting thing for me at that time.
Some of my friends that I have now have been my best friends since childhood. It is really nice to still have them in my life. Most of them I know are from school but some of them are because of our mothers. And it is really strange to think that you have spent all your life with them.We often went out for sightseeing during holidays, which really made us kids happy and helped establish sincere friendship.
One trip that I remember a lot was when I went with one of my best friends,Kate,to a cruise(乘船游览) to the Caribbean islands in a summer holiday when I was 10 years old.Going there was a perfect thing that I'd always dreamed of.On the way to the cruise,we were very excited. We both were going with our families. We were together all of the time.Sometimes she came to sleep in my room and sometimes I went to hers. When we got down in the islands,we also spent all of the time together because our mothers are also very good friends. On the morning of the last day of the trip, the cruise stopped near a mall to let tourists go into the mall to do some shopping. Both Kate's and my parents were busy in choosing clothes and we showed no interest in clothes,so we felt a little bored, having nothing to do.

Paragraph 1:
Kate and I decided to go to a toy counter to buy some Barbie dolls. As we all know,Barbie dolls are almost all girls' favorite. There were varieties of Barbie dolls in the toy counter. We were so attracted that we really hated to leave there. After buying our favorite Barbie dolls, however,we got lost.We were very worried because we had thought the cruise was going to go without us.We went to the entrance, waiting for our mothers to come.
Paragraph 2:
To our disappointment, our mothers didn't appear.Feeling too frightened,we cried loudly. Then a lady that we had already seen in the cruise came to us.She asked us what had happened.Realizing the situation, she helped us without any hesitation. With her help,we finally found our mothers.Although I met some trouble during the trip,I think that was the most unforgettable trip of my life. And I learn that as a child, whenever we go out with parents,we shouldn't leave out of our parents' eyesight.
