An Ontario teen is making waves by turning old fishing gear(用具) into new treasures.Since 2020, Natalie has been taking lost or thrownaway fishing nets and rope and transforming them into bracelets, rope art, mats, baskets and necklaces.
In 2020, Natalie was working on an assignment for her science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) class. As part of the assignment, she learnt about “ghost nets”, which are fishing nets that have been left or lost in the ocean by people who fish.
“They have huge effects on our environment. They can kill coral reefs and many animals,” said Natalie.“Fortysix percent of the Pacific garbage is ghost gear.” The Great Pacific Garbage is a huge collection of trash floating in the Pacific Ocean between Hawaii and California.
Natalie told her mom she wanted to do something to help. She got in touch with a handful of charities, including the Sea Protection Society and Coastal Action.
After getting some shipments of ghost nets and rope from those organizations, Natalie, with the help of her family, started turning the discarded gear into new artworks.“We've made bracelets, rope art, mats, baskets, and we've made necklaces, which also use beach glass in them,” she said.Natalie then started selling the artworks online, the crafty buying and selling website.
She donated all her profits—minus a small sum of change to cover supplies—to the charities that donated fishing supplies to her. She's also been donating all the income from her nonprofit business, called Nautical Waters, to charity.Natalie said she hoped to continue her passion for ocean life, with plans to study marine biology in university.

During mating, the male seahorse uses its central, frontfacing bag on the side of the tail to hold over 1,500 eggs for a period of 9 to 45 days.Once the young seahorses mature(成熟), they are let out into the water to live for themselves.Seahorses do not take care of the young ones after birth. Therefore, a variety of animals and strong waves can kill babies.

Explain other people's emotions.
Children are egocentric(以自我为中心).18.______ This is not selfishness.Young children are unable to understand different opinions.Use proper occasions to explain how other people feel.

(2025·开封高一检测)Grandma got Grandpa out of bed and helped him to the kitchen for breakfast. After his meal, she led him to his armchair in the living room where he would rest while she cleaned the dishes.Every so often, she would check to see if he needed anything.
This was their daily routine after Grandpa's latest stroke(中风).Although once a very active, strong and healthy man, his badly damaged left arm, difficult walking and slurred(含混不清) speech now kept him housebound. For nearly a year he hadn't even been to church or to visit family.Grandpa filled his hours with television. He watched the news and game shows while Grandma went about her day. They made an agreement—he was not to leave his chair or his bed without her assistance.
Grandma was friendly, outgoing and unselfish. Grandpa was reserved and devoted to his family, but he didn't like giving gifts. He held the belief that if you treated your wife well throughout the year, presents weren't necessary; so he rarely bought gifts for her.
It was Valentine's Day, a typical cold winter morning in New York.As always, Grandma walked Grandpa to his chair.“I'm going to take a shower now.” She handed him the television remote.“If you need anything, I'll be back in a little while.”

Paragraph 1:
After her shower, she glanced towards the back of Grandpa's chair but noticed that his walking stick was not in its usual place.Sensing something strange, she walked toward the chair. He was gone.Fear ran down her spine.Grandma threw a coat over her bathrobe and ran outside.Small piles of snow and ice covered the sidewalks.Upon the thought that Grandpa could barely walk on his own, her heart was pulling up.Wringing her hands, she hardly felt the freezing air as she watched traffic rush by.Where could he be? Why would he leave the house all by himself?
Paragraph 2:
As she stood alone on the street desperately, Grandpa walked around the corner.Head bowed, eyes focused on the sidewalk, he took small, cautious steps. His walking stick and a brown bag filled his good arm.Relieved to see that he was okay, she started to scold, “I only left you alone for a short while. What did you need so badly that you couldn't wait? I was so worried about you!” Confused and curious, she reached into the brown bag. Before Grandpa had a chance to explain, she pulled out a heartshaped box.“It's Valentine's Day,” Grandpa explained.“I thought you might like a box of chocolates.I haven't bought you a gift in a long, long time.” His strokeimpaired words warmed the winter wind.Tears flooded Grandma's eyes as she hugged his arm to her chest and led Grandpa back home.
