Passage1
Plants taking the heat
Plants can help with climate(气候)change by taking in carbon dioxide(二氧化碳).But if it gets too hot, they might do the opposite (反面), a new study said.
Plants are very important. They take in air through tiny(极小的)holes in their leaves. With sunlight, they turn this air into food and give out oxygen(氧气).People thought plants lost most of their water through these tiny holes. When it is hot, the holes close so plants don't lose too much water.
But a new study found that when it is hot, plants lose more water through a layer(层)on their leaves. This layer cannot close. So, in very hot weather, plants keep losing water but can't take in air to make food. This makes it hard for them to clean the air.
If it gets too hot, plants might even release carbon dioxide back into the air. This could make climate change worse. Scientists said this could happen when it is about30℃.
1.Plants can help with climate change by taking in carbon dioxide.
主语是 “Plants”(植物);谓语是 “can help with”(有助于);宾语是 “climate change”(气候变化);“by taking in carbon dioxide” 是方式状语,其中 “by + 动名词短语” 表示通过某种方式,“taking in” 是动名词短语,意为 “吸收”。

3.So, in very hot weather, plants keep losing water but can't take in air to make food.
句子分析:“So” 是连词,表结果;“in very hot weather” 是时间状语;主语是 “plants”(植物);“keep losing water” 是第一个谓语部分,“keep + 动名词” 表示 “持续做某事”;“but” 是转折连词,连接前后两个相反的情况;“can't take in air” 是第二个谓语部分;“to make food” 是目的状语,说明 “take in air” 的目的。
