We live in London so we didn’t have to fly. We took the Eurostar, which is a high-speed train that takes about two hours to get there. I thought that I might be a bit scared as the train travelled through a 50-kilometre-long tunnel under the sea. But as we were travelling when it was already dark, I didn’t even realise that we were in the tunnel until we were almost out of it.

Once we were in Paris, except for a couple of meetings on the first day, Mum was free the rest of the time. We did lots of sightseeing, including going to the Louvre Museum to see Leonardo da Vinci’s painting called the Mona Lisa. I’m not usually a big fan of art, but Mum wanted me to go, and it wasn’t as boring as I thought it was going to be. It was actually quite exciting to see such a famous painting in real life. Later we visited the Eiffel Tower. As a boy, I wanted to go up to the top floor to experience the excitement, but Mum refused. She’s afraid of heights. I was a bit disappointed, but I tried not to show Mum that I minded.

We spent four days in the cave. In the mornings, the sun shone through the mouth of the cave. Sunlight lit up the lake and made the rocks sparkle(闪闪发光). The nights in the cave were quiet. Even the sound of a drop of water could be heard.
