Ⅱ. 任务型阅读(2024崇是中学模考)
Artificial intelligence(AI) is part of our everyday lives. You
may already be using an AI program in school. But advanced
chatbots(高级聊天机器人), like ChatGPT, are new. Ask
them a question, and they will generate(形成) a whole
passage. Some educators worry that chatbots could stop
students from learning on their own. Should students use AI to
do their homework? Here are two different views on it.

First, AI could completely change the way students learn. Many people fear that chatbots can be used as a cheating tool. But safeguards are always being improved, and chatbots can be programmed to guide students through questions instead of giving them the answers. Second, teaching kids how to use AI can prepare them for the technology-filled future. Many of future jobs will require some knowledge of AI, so it’s important for young people to develop a strong understanding from an early age.

Schoolwork should teach kids skills and develop their brains. Technology can be a useful tool, but kids need to learn to do basic tasks on their own. For example, even though most adults write by using computers, schools still teach handwriting and spelling. Kids’ brains need to be exercised to develop, just like their bodies. AI may benefit adults, but it will be bad for children if they use AI before they master the basic building blocks(要素) of education.

Do you speak a dialect in daily life? While many Chinese
people speak putonghua, some local dialects are in danger of
disappearing. To save them, the Chinese government started
the Chinese Language Resources Protection Project(中国语言
资源保护工程) a few years ago.

This project looks at how people talk in over 1,700
places. Their languages include 103 dialects that are almost
gone. It has helped China to build the largest language
resource library in the world. There’s an online library where
people can learn dialects from over 5.6 million audio clips and
over 5 million videos.

▲ According to Harold Palmer, a world expert on
language, "Dialects are a key to store local cultures.
Language clearly shows the history and beliefs of an area," he
said.

Scholar Zhang Hongming talked about his concerns about
the disappearing of dialects. "For over 10 years, in the Wu
dialect areas such as Shanghai and Suzhou, children aged 6 to
15 can understand but hardly speak the dialect. Young people
above 15 years old sometimes speak it, but not very well. If
this keeps happening, the dialect might disappear," he said.

"So how did China make this big library? A lot of people
took part in the project to make it happen," said Cao
Zhiyun, an expert on the project. "Over 5 years, more than
350 universities and research groups joined in, along with
over 4,500 experts and more than 6,000 dialect speakers."
The project is now beginning its second part. This includes
creating digital(数字式的) tools like apps and mobile
dictionaries to help people learn dialects.
