When I was a teenager, I didn’t like P.E. This was because we had to run, do sit-ups and practice the long jump and high jump almost every day. None of these sports looked fun to me. And none of them seemed to suit (适合) me. I was only a little interested in some ball games, like volleyball and table tennis. Since I was fat, I was always the last to finish a 1,000-meter race. In the long jump, my personal best was 116 cm. Because I wasn’t good at P.E., over time, I started to hate it.
But P.E. seems to have changed a lot since then. Schools are trying to make it more interesting. In Hangzhou, some P.E. teachers are now teaching their students to climb trees. The children were afraid to try at first. But with the encouragement of their teachers, they have slowly started to become braver. Some of them are now able to climb to the treetops.
The news made me think of an experience of my own. I first heard about tree-climbing classes when I was in college. Because I had never climbed a tree before, I found the idea of it to be exciting. One night, after making sure that there was nobody around, I tried to climb a tree in my college. It was then that I found how hard it was to pull myself up.
Most of you are probably not as heavy as I was. And you can probably do better in P.E. than I could. But some of you may find my experiences familiar (熟悉的). If you hate P.E., it’s probably because you haven’t found the right sport, or sports, yet. After college, I developed an interest in cycling on my bike. I came to realize that I wasn’t born to hate sports. Nobody, in fact.
4. Which of the following sports did the writer hate to do in P.E. classes as a teenager?
A. Cycling and climbing. B. Sit-ups and table tennis.
C. Running and long jump. D. High jump and volleyball.
5. Why does the school in Hangzhou teach students tree-climbing in P.E. classes?
A. To experience a different life. B. To get close to nature world.

6. What does the underlined words “the idea” in Para.3 refer to?
A. Taking exercise. B. Climbing the tree. C. Pulling the treetop. D. Enjoying P. E. classes.
7. What can we know from the writer’s experience?
A. Climbing trees is the best way to enjoy P.E.
B. P.E. classes are always difficult for students.
C. Students should do different kinds of sports to keep fit.
D. Everyone can find a sport they enjoy if they keep trying.
C
Lucy just had a good time at Disneyland. Andy did well on last month’s maths test and his dad bought him a new smart watch. And now, Cindy is playing with her cute cat. On social media (社交媒体), everyone seems to be happy all the time.
▲ The answer to this question is no. As a teenager, you haven’t had much life experience. Sometimes, you might have very high hopes. For example, you wanted to get an A+ on an exam. It didn’t happen, and you felt sad. Sadness is not always bad. It can push you to do better next time.
But it’s a different story if your sadness is starting to mess up your daily life. Maybe you don’t want to go to school in the morning. Or you don’t feel like going out with your friends. If you feel like that, you may be falling into depression (抑郁).
I felt this way when my dog, Rebel, died. He was always by my side. Every morning, he followed me to school. Now, he was gone, and I didn’t want to do anything.
My parents said I was having unrealistic (不现实的) hopes. Dogs don’t live forever. Rebel had a good life. He probably wanted me to have a good life, too.
Depression is not a sign of being weak. Instead, it’s a part of who we are. Many famous people, like comedy actor Jim Carrey, have also experienced depression. When you feel depressed, you must not shut yourself away from the world. Share your feelings with a good friend. Eat something delicious and take a walk in the park. Ask for any help you need. You’re not alone in the fight against this terrible feeling!
8. According to the passage, which of the following thing do people like to post (发布) on social media?
A. He hurt his left leg. B. He got a nice gift on his birthday.
C. He lost his school bag. D. He did not pass his science exam.
9. What can be best put in the blank ▲ ?
A. And do you have a cute pet? B. But can you be always happy?
C. And do you have the same experience? D. But can it be always like this in real life?
10. Which suggestions (建议) can help with depression according to the passage?
①Enjoy some nice food. ②Keep a pet at home.
③Share sadness with others. ④Study outside home.
A. ①③ B. ②④ C. ②③ D. ①④
11. How does the writer feel about depression?
A. It is a symbol of weakness. B. It is a part of a person’s normal life.
C. It needs the help of medicine. D. It often happens to common people.
D
①Over the past few years, cars have become smarter. Some of them can even drive themselves. Now, our roads are also becoming smart. In the United Kingdom alone, there are around 650 kilometers of “smart roads” in use. Across the world, many more are being built. Some new technologies are being put to use.
Roads that make electricity (电)
②The environmental problem has forced us to search for new energy (能源). With the right technologies, cars around the world could make energy as they go.
③The roads are build out of something special. When cars drive on them, the vibrations from passing cars make electricity. In this way, the electricity will continue to come until the car stops. This technology first came out in 1880. However, it has never been widely used before. The U.K.’s Lancaster University is improving it. They are trying to store the electricity in the car for later use.
Roads that never freeze
④It can be dangerous to drive in snowy weather. A technology company has already developed the snowless roads. When there is snow or ice the roads will get warm themselves. The idea has been successfully tested on a few Canadian roads and in some of its car parks.
Roads that think
⑤Roads of the future may be able to know how many people are on them. They could tell about the weather and traffic conditions, and offer electricity to cars as they drive.
⑥This seems to be a dream, but one American company has almost made it come true. By guessing the weight (重量) of a car, the company’s smart roads can know how fast it moves. “We are simply making very large special computers on the road,” says Tim Sylvester, CEO of the company. “The roads collect all the information of the traveling car and send it to the driver to help them drive more safely”.
12. The writer uses the example of “smart cars” at the beginning to________.
A. tell the history B. show the importance
C. share the problem D. raise the reader’s interest
13. The underlined word “vibrations” in Paragraph③ mostly means________.
A. loud noises B. stored energy C. shaking move D. car windows
14. What does Tim Sylvester want to show in the last paragraph?
A. how the roads worked B. how people build the new roads
C. how large the roads were D. how hard it was to develop the roads
15. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?

When there is snow or ice, the roads will get warm themselves.

【答案】范文
My favorite hobby is playing basketball. Last summer, I joined a basketball club where I met many new friends. At first, I wasn’t good at it, but with practice and encouragement from my teammates, I improved a lot.
One memorable experience was when our team won a friendly match. The joy of teamwork made me realize how important friendship and cooperation are. Playing basketball not only brings me happiness but also teaches me perseverance.
