Star Woman—Wang Zhenyi

As one of the six official working languages of the United Nations. Chinese Language Day has been celebrated since 2011. The UN holds colorful activities on this day. This helps spread (传播) Chines and Chinese culture.
However, Chinese is more popular around the world today. The long history and colorful culture of China attract many foreigners to learn Chinese. With the rapid development, China is staying ahead in many fields and is playing its role in the world. Chinese is becoming a global language and its popularity has risen around the world. Many countries set up Chinese courses in their schools.
For example, in the UK, students used to choose between Spanish, Latin, French and other foreign languages. But now schools encourage their students to study Chinese. The increase in the popularity of Chinese has been surprising, 1,031 people took Chinese language exams in 2001, and the number was 2,062 last year, while 2,561 people chose Spanish. It’s predicted that studying Chinese in the UK could overtake Spanish in less than five years.
Just like the foreigners do, we also learn foreign languages. Different languages carry different cultures. So exchanges are necessary. By learning a foreign language, we not only have a useful tool of communicating, but experience a new culture, What’s more, learning a foreign language well will help us tell our own stories to the world.

Many people dream of going on a great travel adventure (探险). Most of us keep dreaming; others make it happen.
Gregg Bleakney’s dream was to travel the Americas (美洲) from top to bottom. He got the idea after he finished a 1,600-kilometer bike ride alone. Gregg’s friend Brooks Allen was also a cyclist (自行车骑手). The two friends talked and decided on their goal: they would travel from Alaska to Argentina—by bike.
To pay for the journey, Gregg and Brooks worked and saved money for years. In 2015, after four years of planning, they set off. Once they were on the road, they often camped outdoors or stayed in hostels (旅社). In many places on their way, local people opened their homes to the two friends and gave them food.
During their trip, Gregg and Brooks cycled through deserts, rain forests, and mountains. They visited modern cities and ancient ruins, such as Tikal in Guatemala. In many places, they met other cyclists from all over the world.

Yang Yu, known as Jiaozi, is the director who made Ne Zha: Birth of the Demon Child a worldwide hit in 2019. And in 2025, Ne Zha 2 became a huge success again. Born in 1980 in Sichuan Province, Jiaozi had a strong passion (激情) for cartoons since he was young. As a child, he often spent hours drawing his favorite cartoon characters. This early interest later led him to study animation (动画) at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. During his college years, he made his first animated short film, The Big Fish & Begonia, which won several awards (奖项) and caught people’s attention.
But Jiaozi’s path to Ne Zha was difficult. For five years he faced many challenges, including limited funding and a lack of experienced animators. But he didn’t give up. He spent years perfecting the script, designing the characters, and creating the special effects. To keep making the film, he even sold his house. His persistence (坚持) paid off—the film became a huge success. It earned over S700 million globally, surprising everyone. It also brought Chinese animation to a new level, showing the world the charm of Chinese culture. People praised how Jiaozi mixed old Chinese myths with new animation styles, like using bright colors and fast action scenes.
Jiaozi’s goal is clear: “Tell Chinese stories that touch hearts everywhere.” He believes animation should show our traditions while sharing feelings everyone understands, like love and courage. In his talks, he often says, “A director must be brave like Ne Zha—fighting problems and finding their own voice.” Today, Jiaozi is a leader in Chinese animation. He encourages young artists to respect their culture while trying new ideas, proving that old stories can still shine in new ways.
