Unit 2 No Rules, No Order
Section B 1a-2c

Watch and say
Lily feels stressed out and upset.
She wants to ask for help.
Dear Dr. Know,
Help! I feel unhappy and trapped because there are too many rules in my life.
I have to wake up at 6 o’clock, or my parents get upset. I must eat breakfast quickly because if I’m late for the bus, I’ll get in trouble at school. And at school? More rules! I mustn’t run in the hallway. And I mustn’t use my cellphone.
When I finally get home, rules don’t stop. First, I have to finish homework. Besides, I love drawing, but I can’t draw before I finish my homework. And no watching TV or playing games; those are “Weekend Activities.”
I know that some rules are important, like doing homework or being on time. But right now, it feels like I have zero freedom. My life is just a rule list, and I’m so sad about that.
Is this normal? Am I just being dramatic? I don’t want to break all the rules, but I want to have more my own time. What can I do?
Yours,
Lily

Dear Lily,
Thank you for your letter. Yes, you have too many rules. But rules are here to help you grow better and stay safe. Let’s look at the bright side!
You must wake up at 6:00 because it teaches you responsibility. Being on time for school helps you form a good habit. You mustn’t run in the hallways or use your phone in class because these rules keep everyone safe and focused on learning. Homework has to come first so you can strengthen your mind, just like training for a sport!
But you can also think about things you can do! After homework, you can dive into your sketchbook and create amazing paintings. At weekends, you can enjoy TV, games, or time with friends—those activities make hard work worth it!
Rules might seem boring now, but they build good habits and a fair world for everyone. When you become responsible, your parents will trust you with more freedom. Remember: No rules No order!
Best wishes,
Dr. Know

Dear Eric,
I know it can be difficult to follow many rules. But rules can be good for us to be a better person.
You have to clean your room every day and get your desk tidy so you can have a comfortable room, and a clean desk helps you focus on your schoolwork. You have to do a lot of housework. That shows your duty to your family. You can't wear your own clothes at school because wearing school uniforms builds school spirit.
You can also think about what you can do. You can wear your favorite cap on weekends. You can relax after practicing the violin. You can play music you love later.
When you realize the importance of the rules, you will enjoy more freedom. And remember: No rules, No order.
Best,
Dr. Know
