Imagine a lively setting, full of laughter and curiosity. That was the scene and sounds of my classroom as I guided young minds through different adventures.
At our school’s learning center, I led a program that ranged from simple art projects and sports games to hands-on science experiments. We painted colorful pictures, kicked soccer balls across the field, and watched vinegar and baking soda fizz in clear cups. Every activity turned our classroom into a place for discovery and fun.
I enjoyed spending time with the kids I was helping and learning alongside. That was my favorite part about the program. One memorable class involved making bubbles (肥皂泡). The children ran after the floating bubbles shouting with delight, and I felt like a child again, caught up in their wonder. That simple game showed me how small joys can turn a normal day into something special.
The positive effect of our classes rippled throughout the school. Other students noticed how happy our classroom sounded. They began to join in, and soon the entire learning center felt warmer and more welcoming.
However, as I started this journey, I found it hard to stay calm when the children became noisy. But as I spent more time with them, I learned patience, kindness, and how to show empathy (同理心). I discovered that gentle words and clear instructions could turn disorder into order. My “little friends” taught me as much as I taught them.
The energy and joy that filled the room not only impacted the children but left a long-lasting mark on me. They made me realize that education goes beyond textbooks. It’s about caring for each student, fanning their curiosity, and discovering the wonders of the world, one activity at a time.
4. What is a feature of the program?
A. It focuses on appreciating art. B. It leads students to love nature.
C. It holds various fun activities. D. It teaches students how to cook.
5. Why does the author mention the class about making bubbles?
A. To remind us how to act like a child.
B. To recall the moment in her childhood.
C. To highlight the joy of teaching kids.
D. To explain the importance of teamwork.
6. What does the underlined word “rippled” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Shook. B. Spread. C. Differed. D. Ended.
7. What can we learn from the author’s story?
A. Teaching is learning. B. Think twice before you act.
C. Hard work pays off. D. A miss is as good as. a mile.

People often ask Angela Duckworth what results in success. It’s an understandable question, given the pioneering work Duckworth, a psychologist at the University of Pennsylvania, has done in the area of grit—the passion and determination to keep working toward long-term goals. But Duckworth’s recent research with teams at Duke University and West Point shows that grit is only part of the picture.
In a study of more than 11,000 cadets(学员)over ten years, the researchers measured three main qualities: cognitive(认知的)ability(using SAT or ACT scores), grit(using Duckworth’s twelve-question Grit Scale), and physical fitness(timed runs, pull-ups, and sit-ups). They also recorded which cadets finished the six-week “Beast Barracks” training, and graduated in four years, and their grades in academic, military, and physical tests.
“We gathered all this data in part so we could answer more definitively the question of whether grit brought about success outcomes. At the same time, we wanted to explore where, perhaps, grit wasn’t the most important factor,” says Duckworth. During Beast Barracks, for example, grit is extremely important. But during the four years of combined classroom time and physical training that follow, cognitive ability is the strongest predictor of academic grades. Finally, grit and physical ability play a greater role than cognitive ability in determining who will graduate from West Point in four years versus who might leave before then.
Duckworth stresses that grit is not the only determinant of success. Grit helps people push through hard moments, but intelligence and physical strength also shape long-term outcomes. For schools and companies, this means only depending on test scores misses other important qualities. Duckworth and her team are now developing new tools to measure noncognitive ability like kindness and curiosity.
By recognizing the value of different strengths—grit, health, and character—we can better support people in achieving their goals. It turns out that success comes from learning to balance and develop all of these qualities together.
8. How does the author explain the idea “grit” in paragraph 1?
A. By giving a definition. B. By listing figures.
C. By using examples. D. By describing a process.
9. What does the underlined word “They” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Sportsmen. B. Researchers. C. Army cadets. D. Fitness coaches.
10. What does Duckworth’s recent study find?
A. Grit is the only determinant of success. B. Physical strength is our first choice.
C. Cognitive ability plays a decisive role. D. Each quality matters at different stages.
11. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. What Makes a Happy Life B. What Leads to Success
C. How to Pick up Courage D. How to Build Confidence
D
Walking around most large cities in Europe and the United States, you may find it easy and cheap to get shared bikes and cars ready to use with a tap on your phone — unless you are older, have a disability, lack a smartphone or credit card, or live in a poorer neighborhood. These services usually appear in richer areas and often can’t handle wheelchairs or child seats. As a result, most riders are young, able-bodied, well-off, and male.
Shared mobility could be a key part of a more sustainable (可持续的) transportation system. If shared mobility could work for everyone, it might cut city traffic by as much as 90 percent and reduce transport emissions (排放) by half. But today, private cars still cover 61 percent of all travel in the Global North. To move more people away from private cars to shared ones is an important first step, because a lot of people are left out today.
A 2019 study of 10 US cities, for example, showed that a fifth of low-income Americans still don’t have a smartphone and almost a quarter don’t have a bank account — both necessary for using most shared mobility services. A 2017 survey in Philadelphia, Chicago and Brooklyn showed that low-income people are just as interested in bikesharing as other groups, but less likely to use such a system: While 10 percent of higher-income people were members of a bikeshare system, only two percent of lower-income people were.
How can we bridge the accessibility gap? In several US cities, low-income subsidy (补贴) programs have increased bikeshare use among underserved groups. In Buffalo, New York, an organization launched an “E-Bike Library” using 3,000 e-bikes retired by a private company. 71 percent of its members tried e-bikes for the first time, and 84 percent were low-income people.
Simple fixes can make a big difference. When mobility providers include diverse voices in planning and care more about users’ needs, they build services that work for everyone. In that case, shared mobility can become truly fair, green, and effective.
12. What does the author intend to point out in paragraph 1?
A. Kids should respect wheelchair users. B. People are glued to their mobile phones.
C. Access to shared mobility is unequal. D. It’s hard to find a shared car in the US.
13. What percentage of all travel in the Global North do private cars account for?
A. 50%. B. 61%. C. 75%. D. 90%.
14. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. The challenges facing shared mobility. B. A significant increase in people’s income.
C. The downside of the bikeshare service. D. A change in personal preference for bikes.
15. What does the author expect mobility providers to do?
A. Fix broken bikes in time. B. Put more effort into e-cars.
C. Voice their views on travel. D. Meet customers’ real needs.

The annual school hiking trip was something many students looked forward to. This year, the destination was Mount Green, a forest-covered hill about 1,000 meters high, known for its fresh air, gentle slopes (山坡), and beautiful views. Kevin was especially excited. He loved nature and had just bought a new camera to shoot the breathtaking view at the top of the mountain.
The weather was perfect. The sky was clear, birds were singing, and the students laughed all the way. Kevin walked with his new friend Leo, who had never gone on a long hike before. Kevin promised to stay with him during the trip. At first, Leo seemed fine and even joked about reaching the top faster than Kevin. But after about an hour of climbing, Leo began to fall behind.
Kevin noticed that Leo was sweating heavily and looked pale (苍白的). “Are you OK?” Kevin asked. Leo nodded but didn’t say anything. When the class reached a resting point, one of the teachers came over. “Leo, you don’t look well. Maybe you should take a break here while the rest of the class finish the last part of the climb,” she suggested. “I’ll stay with you.”
Leo agreed, though clearly disappointed.
Now Kevin faced a dilemma (窘境). He had been longing for this trip for weeks and couldn’t wait to take pictures at the top of the mountain. But he also wanted to stay with Leo as he had promised. Most of the classmates were already getting ready to continue. Kevin looked at his friend, who gave him a weak smile and said, “Don’t worry. I’ll be fine.”
Kevin’s camera hung around his neck, but for the first time that day, taking photos didn’t seem that important anymore. Kevin took a deep breath and told the teacher about his decision.

My Views on Teachers’ Feedback on Assignments
Good morning, everyone! I’m honored to share my views on teachers’ feedback here.
I consider teachers’ feedback to be extremely valuable to our growth. First of all, it offers us precise guidance on correcting our mistakes. For example, in English writing, when teachers point out grammatical errors in our compositions, we can make guided corrections. Furthermore, teachers’ positive feedback can greatly boost our self-confidence. When we perform well in tests or class participation, their affirmation makes us feel recognized and become more actively engaged in learning.
In conclusion, teachers’ feedback is like a lighthouse, illuminating the direction of our studies. Thank you!

【47题答案】
【答案】One possible version:
Kevin walked over and sat beside Leo. “I’m not leaving you behind,” he said firmly. Leo looked surprised, and then smiled weakly. “Thanks,” he whispered. Kevin handed him a bottle of water and took out some snacks from his bag. They chatted quietly while listening to the birds around them. Though Kevin still wished he could take photos from the top, he felt this moment mattered more. Being a good friend meant more than reaching the peak. He was glad he stayed.
