It was there, in the corner behind the old suitcase, that I made a fascinating discovery—a shoebox filled with old letters. These letters, tied together with a faded ribbon, were a collection of conversations between my grandmother and her friends from past time. The dusty smell of aged paper and ink filled the air, transporting me to a time when communication was a deliberate and heartfelt act. In an age where a simple text or email can convey our thoughts, these letters served as a deeply touching reminder of the depth and meaning that can be found in the written word. They were more than just messages; they were pieces of a life, snapshots of a time, and most importantly, they were a bridge between the past and the present, between my grandmother’s generation and my own. With the letters safely back in their resting place, I made a quiet promise to myself—to pick up pen and paper more often, to write not just messages, but little pieces of history that future generations might one day cherish. In a world racing towards the future, it’s the old letters that remind us to slow down, to appreciate the moment, and to write our own stories with care. And perhaps, one day, someone will find my letters and experience the same joy of discovery, the same sense of connection across the years. For now, the attic holds not just boxes of old letters but also the promise of stories yet to be told. 4. What does the author consider the letters to be? A. Simple messages from the past. B. Bridges between different generations. C. Outdated communication methods. D. Unimportant things of past time. 5. What personal resolution does the author make after reflecting on the letters? A. To clean the attic of unnecessary items. B. To digitize all family letters for preservation. C. To learn more about the history of the family. D. To write more frequently to maintain connections. 6. What message does the author want to convey? A. Every family has a story to tell. B. The future is full of uncertainty. C. Old letters carry voices from the past. D. The pen is stronger than the sword. 7. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A. Treasure in Letters B. The Story of My Family C. Digital Distraction D. The Power of Pen and Ink C Art and science may seem like opposite things. One means the creative flow of ideas, and the other means cold, hard data—some people believe. In fact, the two have much in common. Now, a study finds art can help students remember better what they learned in science class. Mariale Hardiman, an education specialist at Johns Hopkins University, noticed that students who used art in the classroom listened more carefully. They might ask more questions. They might volunteer more ideas. What’s more, students seemed to remember more of what they had been taught when their science lessons had involved art. To prove that, Hardima n teamed up with some researchers and six local schools. In the experiment, the researchers worked with teachers in 16 fifth-grade classrooms. They provided traditional science lessons and art-focused ones. In a traditional science class, for example, students might read aloud from a book. In the art-focused one, they might sing the information instead. The team randomly assigned each of the 350 students to either a traditional science classroom or an art-focused one. Students then learned science using that way for the whole unit—about three weeks. When they changed to a new topic, they also changed to the other type of class. This way, each student had both an art-focused class and a traditional one. Every unit was taught in both ways, to different groups of students. This enabled the researchers to see how students did in both types of classes. The team found that students who began in traditional classes performed better after they moved into an art-focused class. But those who started in an art-focused class did well even when they went back to a traditional science class. These students appeared to use some of the art techniques after going back to a traditional class. Classroom teachers reported that many students continued to sing the songs that they learned after finishing the unit. “The more we hear something, the more we retain it,” Hardiman says. “It suggests that the arts may help students apply creative ways of learning on their own.” 8. Why did Mariale Hardiman do the study? A. To prove the importance of art at school. B. To know how to teach students to ask questions. C. To find a way to help her students learn better. D. To see if art might improve science learning. 9. What were the students required to do in the experiment? A. Learn three units in total. B. Choose what they’d like to learn. C. Take two types of classes. D. Learn two topics for three weeks. 10. What does the underlined word “retain” in the last paragraph mean? A. Remember. B. Teach. C. Ignore. D. Report. 11. What is the text mainly about? A. Art helps students develop good habits. B. Art-focused classes interest students a lot. C. Art can make science easier to learn. D. Art has something in common with science. D A new Chinese artificial intelligence agent, Manus, has rapidly caught the attention of the AI community with its ability to handle complex, real-world tasks. Developed by a low-profile team and backed by Chinese investors and developers, Manus is currently available as an invitation-only web preview. A demonstration video on its website shows its ability to create a personalized website through a step-by-step process. In 2025, China has been in a leading position in several AI breakthroughs. The launch of DeepSeek in January showed that China was able to produce functional Large Language Models (LLMs) for a small part of the cost of American industry leaders, and Manus shows that this kind of progress can be repeated. Manus’ website says it is focused on real-world complex tasks, giving the examples of designing a trip to Japan, providing an in-depth analysis of Tesla’s stock, creating interactive courses for middle school teachers, comparing different insurance policies, and assisting in business-to-business supplier sourcing. Manus also claims to outperform OpenAI’s Deep Research. Despite limited information about its business structure, team, and models, Manus has generated significant interest. The demonstration video, published on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday, gained over 200,000 views by Thursday. This significant rise in popularity is similar to the excitement that followed the launch of DeepSeek’s R1 reasoning model in January. General-purpose AI agents, capable of interacting with their environment, collecting data, and autonomously handling tasks to achieve predetermined goals, are widely regarded as the future of AI applications. According to the demo, Manus can autonomously browse websites, make use of various capabilities, and display its workflow in real time. The developers describe it as “a general AI agent that bridges minds and actions: it doesn’t just think, it delivers results.” The demo video is hosted by Ji Yichao, a 33-year-old Chinese tech enthusiast known for creating the mobile browser Mammoth and founding Peak Labs in the U. S. In the demonstration, presenter Ji Yichao said: “This isn’t just another chatbot or workflow. It’s a truly autonomous agent that bridges the gap between initial ideas and actual actions. While other AI s stop at generating ideas, Manus delivers results.” 12. What distinguishes Manus from other existing AIs according to the text? A. Its ability to generate creative ideas instantly. B. Its wide availability to the general public without restrictions. C. Its unique capacity to autonomously turn ideas into practical results. D. Its lower expense of development compared to American AI products. 13. How does the author prove Manus’ capability? A. By listing examples. B. By defining terms. C. By comparing data. D. By quoting experts. 14. What is the key to Manus’ success? A. Government funding. B. The proper Marketing strategy. C. Frequent software updates. D. Integration of multiple models capacities. 15. What can be inferred about Manus from the last paragraph? A. It is a common chatbot with basic functions. B. It is a breakthrough in AI agent technology. C. It is a bridge that connects China and the USA. D. It is a model agent that affects only the generations of ideas. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填人空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 If I could offer you a magic drug that would make you happier, healthier, more optimistic and more productive, and cost nothing and will require very little effort, would you be interested? Among the lively atmosphere, Wanda Petronski, a poor Polish girl, with her unruly hair and a faded blue dress that showed signs of frequent wear, became the target of cruel jokes among her classmates. Each morning, as Wanda stepped into the classroom, a sudden silence would fall over the room. The abrupt silence was soon replaced by whispers and laughter. “Look, there’s Wanda,” Peggy would whisper to her friend Maggie, her eyes shining with mischief. Peggy, the most popular girl in class, was well-known for her sharp tongue and a good sense of fashion. Driven by a mix of boredom and meanness (恶意), she would call out, “How many dresses do you have now, Wanda?” Her voice was filled with pretended curiosity. Wanda would hesitate, her fingers nervously twisting her dress. “A hundred,” she would reply in a soft murmur; her voice was barely heard. Instantly, the classroom would erupt in laughter. “A hundred!” Peggy would shout, her laughter echoing through the room. “I bet they’re all made of paper!” The other students would join in, their cruel laughter filling the air. Wanda’s face would redden with awkward, and she would quickly lower her head, unable to meet anyone’s eyes. Miss Mason, their teacher, often tried to intervene. “That’s enough, class. Let’s start the lesson,” she would say firmly, attempting to restore order. But the damage had been done. Day after day, Peggy and her group of friends continued to make fun of Wanda, asking about her “hundred dresses” and making ill remarks about her plain clothes. One day, Miss Mason announced an exciting drawing contest. The theme was “Design a Dress,” and the winning entries would be displayed in the school hall. Peggy, confident in her artistic abilities, was determined to claim victory. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 A few days later, Miss Mason announced the result and everyone was shocked. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Feeling a strong sense of guilt, Peggy and Maggie went to Wanda’s house with the good news. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 蚌埠市2024—2025学年度第二学期期末学业水平监测 高二英语 时间:120分钟 满分:150分 注意事项: 1. 1. Wanda won the first prize, for she had submitted 100 exquisite, uniquely detailed fashion design drawings. Each drawing was a masterpiece, featuring elaborate patterns and vivid colors that far exceeded the simple sketches of the other students. Peggy and the class stared in disbelief at the beautiful display of Wanda’s talent. But Wanda wasn’t there to see her triumph. She had been absent for days, likely due to classmates’ constant bad behavior. The classroom was filled with an awkward silence as the students realized how wrong they had been to laugh at her. Feeling a strong sense of guilt, Peggy and Maggie went to Wanda’s house with the good news. When they arrived, Wanda seemed surprised to see them.
