I’ve had to think of more creative ways to get them excited about learning the language. Earlier this year we decided to take a Spanish immersion trip to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. We stayed at the Lopesan Costa Bavaro, a 5-star, all-inclusive hotel to make travel. and family activities a lot easier. To me, language is about more than just the words themselves; I want to teach them to value the world and: its many cultures. So the goal of the trip was to primarily speak to my kids in Spanish and offer them an enriching travel experience. I blocked out two-to-three-hour windows to speak to them only in Spanish. each: day and found that they became curious about the language and kept asking me how to translate words, even when we weren’t in practice mode. One of their favorite spots in the hotel was the ice cream shop. The kids learned what to call the sweet treat in Spanish (helado) and asked how to say the different ice cream flavors in Spanish too. The most important part of the immersion trip was to have fun and to set realistic expectations about their language development journey. My kids weren’t going to leave the trip being fully bilingual, but the goal was to spark their interest and create a positive learning experience. For me, it was also a reminder to let go of the bilingual parenting pressure I constantly put on myself. So much of passing down a language requires planning and consistency, which can be hard to keep up with at times — and that’s OK. Once we got home, my son asked us to download the app Duolingo on our devices so he could continue practicing his Spanish. And I still make it a point to occasionally shift to Spanish and teach them new words: little by little, poco a poco. 4. What was the main purpose of the author’s trip to Punta Cana? A. To enjoy an expensive hotel. B. To teach her kids Spanish through immersion. C. To explore the culture of the Dominican Republic. D. To visit family members living there. 5. How did the author teach her children Spanish during the trip? A. By playing games with them. B. By having them speak Spanish for two to three hours daily. C. By enrolling them in a language school. D. By speaking only Spanish for two to three hours daily. 6. What lesson did the author learn regarding bilingual parenting? A. It is vital to set strict language rules. B. Language learning is not important for cultural identity. C. Children should only learn one language at a time. D. It requires patience, planning, and consistency. 7. What does the author imply about her children’s language development? A. They generate a strong passion for Spanish. B. They became fluent in Spanish by the end of the trip. C. They have formed a habit of learning Spanish after the trip. D. They found Spanish too easy to learn. B 5. D 6. D 7. 根据第二段中“Earlier this year we decided to take a Spanish immersion trip to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.(今年早些时候,我们决定去多米尼加共和国的蓬塔卡纳进行西班牙语沉浸式旅行)”以及“So the goal of the trip was to primarily speak to my kids in Spanish and offer them an enriching travel experience.(所以这次旅行的目标主要是和我的孩子们说西班牙语,并为他们提供丰富的旅行体验)”可知,作者去蓬塔卡纳的主要目的是通过沉浸式学习教孩子们西班牙语。 根据第二段中“I blocked out two-to-three-hour windows to speak to them only in Spanish each day and found that they became curious about the language and kept asking me how to translate words, even when we weren’t in practice mode.(我每天留出两到三个小时的时间只和他们说西班牙语,我发现他们对这门语言变得很好奇,即使我们不在练习模式下,他们也不断问我如何翻译单词)”可知,作者通过每天花两到三个小时只说西班牙语来教孩子。 根据倒数第二段中“For me, it was also a reminder to let go of the bilingual parenting pressure l constantly put on myself. So much of passing down a language requires planning and consistency, which can be hard to keep up with at times — and that’s OK.(对我来说,这也提醒我要放下自己一直以来施加的双语育儿压力。传承一门语言在很大程度上需要规划和坚持,有时很难做到这一点——但这也没关系)”可推知,双语育儿需要耐心、规划和坚持。故选D。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Once we got home, my son asked us to download the app Duolingo on our devices so he could continue practicing his Spanish.(我们一回到家,我儿子就让我们在设备上下载多邻国应用程序,这样他就可以继续练习他的西班牙语了)”可推知,孩子们对西班牙语产生了强烈的热情。故选A。 C Companies have been switching from, plastic straws to paper ones on the grounds of being more environmentally friendly. However, new research suggests the good - intentioned trend might not be the best alternative after all. The study found the vast majority of paper straws tested contained PFAS. Commonly referred to as “forever chemicals,” PFAS don’t break down in the body or in the environment. “Straws made from plant-based materials, such as paper and bamboo, are often advertised as being more sustainable and eco-friendly than those made from plastic,” said Thimo Groffen, author of the study. “However, the presence of PFAS in these straws means that’s not necessarily true.” Researchers on the study examined 39 brands of straws in Belgium from supermarkets, toy stores, fast-food chains, drug stores and e-commerce stores. The straws were either made of paper, bamboo; glass, stainless steel or plastic, and the researchers tested each brand for concentrations of PFAS. 69% of the brands contained PFAS, with paper straws more likely to contain the chemicals. The researchers found 90% of paper straws had PFAS, compared to 80% of bamboo straws, 75% of plastic straws, and 40% of glass straws. Further, a paper straw brand was the brand with the highest PFAS concentration. Small amounts of PFAS do not pose a risk. However, a build-up of the chemicals in the body may cause dangerous health problems like liver damage, increased blood “The presence of PFAS in paper and bamboo straws shows they are not necessarily biodegradable (可生物降解的),” said Groffen. “We did not detect any PFAS in stainless steel straws, so I would advise consumers to use this type of straw — or just avoid using straws at all.” 8. Why do companies show a preference for paper straws? A. They are considered more economical. B. They are considered less harmful to the environment. C. They are considered more beneficial to health. D. They are considered easier to produce. 9. What can we know about PFAS from the text? A. They exist the least in plastic straws. B. They protect our health effectively. C. They are basic materials for straws. D. They are a potential threat to human health. 10. What does Groffen probably agree with? A. Paper straws will become more popular. B. We should use glass straws more often. C. We’d better drink without using straws. D. Stainless steel straws should be avoided. 11. Which of the following serves as the best title? A. Paper straws are more likely to contain forever chemicals B. Paper straws have entirely taken the place of plastic straws C. Paper straws have caused dangerous, health problems to humans D. Paper straws will become the best alternative for us in the future 【答案】8. B 9. D 10. C 11. 根据文章第一段第一句“Companies have been switching from, plastic straws to paper ones on the grounds of being more environmentally friendly. (公司已经从塑料吸管转向纸质吸管,理由是更环保。) ”可知,公司现在从生产塑料吸管转变到纸吸管是基于其更加的环保,即纸吸管被认为对环境的危害较小。故选B。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“The study found the vast majority of paper straws tested contained PFAS. Commonly referred to as “forever chemicals,” PFAS don’t break down in the body or in the environment. (该研究发现,绝大多数被测试的纸吸管都含有PFAS。PFAS通常被称为‘永远的化学物质’,不会在体内或环境中分解。)”可知,PFAS是一种合成化学物质,通常是指有害的“永久化学物质”,它在人体内和自然环境中都不会分解;由倒数第二段“Small amounts of PFAS do not pose a risk. However, a build-up of the chemicals in the body may cause dangerous health problems like liver damage, increased blood. (少量的PFAS不会造成风险。然而,体内化学物质的积累可能会导致危险的健康问题,如肝损伤,血液增加。)”可知,尽管少量的PFAS不会造成危险,但人体内PFAS的累积会带来严重的健康威胁;由此可知,PFAS对人类健康是个潜在威胁。故选D。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段““The presence of PFAS in paper and bamboo straws shows they are not necessarily biodegradable (可生物降解的),” said Groffen. “We did not detect any PFAS in stainless steel straws, so I would advise consumers to use this type of straw — or just avoid using straws at all.” (‘纸和竹吸管中PFAS的存在表明它们不一定是可生物降解的。’Groffen说:‘我们没有在不锈钢吸管中检测到任何PFAS,所以我建议消费者使用这种吸管——或者干脆不要使用吸管。’)”可推知,Groffen会赞同消费者使用不锈钢吸管或者干脆避免使用吸管。故选C。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Companies have been switching from, plastic straws to paper ones on the grounds of being more environmentally friendly. However, new research suggests the good - intentioned trend might not be the best alternative after all. (公司已经从塑料吸管转向纸质吸管,理由是更环保。然而,新的研究表明,这种善意的趋势可能并不是最好的选择。)”以及第二段“The study found the vast majority of paper straws tested contained PFAS. Commonly referred to as “forever chemicals,” PFAS don’t break down in the body or in the environment. A。 D Thanks to technology development, healthcare services are more accessible than ever. Hospitals have committed to digitally enabled care going mainstream and more health services have gone online than ever before. But are older people who don’t use the Internet being left behind? A study by Lancaster University found that lots of older people still avoid online life completely or use the Internet only on occasion. There are various reasons why older people don’t use the Internet. For many, a lack of confidence in their own ability to use technology raised fears about security, particularly with online banking. Whatever the reasons are, one of the biggest concerns about an off line older generation is the likelihood that online. Madeleine Starr MBE, director of business development and innovation at Carers UK, said, “Though many of us use technology in our everyday lives, seven out of ten people don’t yet think of technology when it comes to caring. So, many are not yet realizing the benefits of this technology. Accessing appointments, ordering prescriptions (处方) or having consultations online can all help reduce visits to doctors and unplanned hospital visits.” In an aging society, the Internet can make a huge amount of difference to older people requiring a bit of extra support and those caring for them. “Advice from specialist websites or symptom checkers is great for those who are unsure if their symptoms are cause for concern or find it difficult to get to a doctor’s appointment. Technology is making it easier to offer remote care and support for older people, helping them remain independent. The information on the Internet can prevent older people from taking their health into their own hands,” adds Caroline Abrahams, charity director at Age UK. However, services need to remain accessible to those who aren’t online. While it’s fine to support older people getting online, those who choose not to or cannot do so, for whatever reason, should not be treated like second-class citizens. They must still be able to access services in other ways that suit them. 12. What is the main purpose of paragraph 1? A. To raise a topic to be discussed. B. To list some important facts. C. To express the main idea of the text. D. To introduce new advances in science. 13. What might be the big concern about off line older people? A They will suffer from terrible loneliness. B. They will face risks from online banking. C. They will fail to benefit from advanced online healthcare. D. They will underestimate the role of modern technology in healthcare. 14. Why does the author mention Caroline Abrahams’ words in paragraph 4? A. To stress the popularity of the Internet. B. To reveal technology is developing very fast now. C. To indicate the big challenges an aging society faces. D. To show the Internet is of great importance to older people. 15. What is the message the author wants to convey in the last paragraph? A. Health services should get support from professionals. B. Older people should be encouraged to place their health first. C. Older people should receive some training in using the Internet. D. Health services should be offered in ways that suit different people. A 13. C 14. D 15. 根据第一段“Thanks to technology development, healthcare services are more accessible than ever. Hospitals have committed to digitally enabled care going mainstream and more health services have gone online than ever before. But are older people who don’t use the Internet being left behind?(由于技术的发展,医疗服务比以往任何时候都更容易获得。医院已承诺将数字化护理纳入主流,比以往任何时候都有更多的医疗服务上线。但是,不上网的老年人会被抛在后面吗?)”和下文内容可知,第一段提出问题:不上网的老年人是否会被科技的发展所抛下?难以获得更便捷的医疗服务,接下来全文主要围绕这一主题展开讨论,可推理出第一段的主要目的是提出一个要讨论的话题。故选A。 根据第三段“Whatever the reasons are, one of the biggest concerns about an off line older generation is the likelihood that online. (无论原因是什么,对于离线的老一代人来说,最大的担忧之一是在线的可能性)”和“Though many of us use technology in our everyday lives, seven out of ten people don’t yet think of technology when it comes to caring. So, many are not yet realizing the benefits of this technology. Accessing appointments, ordering prescriptions (处方) or having consultations online can all help reduce visits to doctors and unplanned hospital visits.(尽管我们中的许多人在日常生活中使用技术,但十分之七的人在护理方面还没有想到技术。因此,许多人还没有意识到这项技术的好处。预约、订购处方或在线咨询都有助于减少看医生和计划外的医院就诊)”可知,作者认为不上网的老年人将无法从网上医疗中受益,他们会错过网上医疗带来的好处(如预约、订购处方或在线咨询)。故选C。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“In an aging society, the Internet can make a huge amount of difference to older people requiring a bit of extra support and those caring for them. “Advice from specialist websites or symptom checkers is great for those who are unsure if their symptoms are cause for concern or find it difficult to get to a doctor’s appointment. Technology is making it easier to offer remote care and support for older people, helping them remain independent. The information on the Internet can prevent older people from taking their health into their own hands,” adds Caroline Abrahams, charity director at Age UK.(在老龄化社会中,互联网可以为需要额外支持的老年人和照顾他们的人带来巨大的改变。 根据最后一段“However, services need to remain accessible to those who aren’t online. While it’s fine to support older people getting online, those who choose not to or cannot do so, for whatever reason, should not be treated like second-class citizens. They must still be able to access services in other ways that suit them.(然而,服务需要对那些不上网的人保持可访问性。 Productivity can be a struggle for many of us. It can be easy to feel upset with overflowing email inboxes, housework, social responsibilities. ___16___ Write it down, do the tasks and cross them off! According to the psychologist David Cohen, there are three key reasons why lists are beneficial. Firstly, they help to drown out the disorder and anxiety that comes with having never-ending tasks. By writing everything down, we don’t have to rely on our memory and can instead focus on the task at hand. ___17___ Secondly, lists provide structure and guidance, giving us a plan to follow. As well as this, our brains are more likely to keep information that is presented in a structured and organized manner. ___18___. They act as proof of what we have achieved, which can help boost our sense of accomplishment and motivation. Seeing our progress on paper can be a great motivator to keep going and tackle more tasks. Another possible reason why our brains love lists is something called the “Zeigarnik Effect”. This is the name psychologists use for when we remember things we need to do, our unfinished tasks, better than things we have already completed. Researchers from Wake Forest University tested the interference of the Zeigarnik effect on a group of people. The researchers concluded that the group permitted to plan had reduced anxiety and performed better in the next task. ___19___ In conclusion, the to-do list is an invaluable tool for managing our daily lives. ___20___ It just might be the key to unlocking your full potential. A. Finally, lists give us the psychological boost as well. B. Instead, we can check our lists to remind us of what’s next. C. This not only helps us stay organized but also reduces mental stress. D. Nevertheless, making a to-do list is not always a straightforward process. E. However, one simple tool that can help us stay on top of everything is the to-do list. F. The next time you feel overwhelmed, grab a pen and paper, and start making your list. G. This finding highlights the importance of completing tasks and crossing them off our lists. E 17. C 18. A 19. G 20. 【16题详解】 根据前文“Productivity can be a struggle for many of us. It can be easy to feel upset with overflowing email inboxes, housework, social responsibilities.(对我们很多人来说,提高效率是一件很困难的事情。收件箱里满是邮件、家务、社会责任,这些都很容易让人感到不安)”提到提高效率是一件很困难的事情,和后文“Write it down, do the tasks and cross them off!(把它写下来,完成任务并划掉它们!)”可知,此处是指写下待办事项可以提高办事效率,所以E选项“However, one simple tool that can help us stay on top of everything is the to-do list.(然而,有一个简单的工具可以帮助我们掌握一切,那就是待办事项清单)”起到上下文的承上启下作用,切合文意。故选E。 【17题详解】 根据前文“Firstly, they help to drown out the disorder and anxiety that comes with having never-ending tasks. By writing everything down, we don’t have to rely on our memory and can instead focus on the task at hand.(首先,它们有助于消除永无止境的任务带来的混乱和焦虑。通过把所有的事情都写下来,我们不必依赖我们的记忆,而是可以专注于手头的任务)”可知,此处是指待办事项清单可以帮助我们理清混乱并减少焦虑,C选项“This not only helps us stay organized but also reduces mental stress.(这不仅能帮助我们保持条理,还能减少精神压力)”承接上文内容,上下文紧密连接。故选C。 【18题详解】 根据后文“They act as proof of what we have achieved, which can help boost our sense of accomplishment and motivation. Seeing our progress on paper can be a great motivator to keep going and tackle more tasks.(它们是我们取得成就的证明,有助于提高我们的成就感和动力。看到我们在纸上的进步是一个很好的动力,让我们继续前进,处理更多的任务)”可知,此处是指待办事项清单可以给我们提供成就感和动力,A选项“Finally, lists give us the psychological boost as well.(最后,清单也给我们心理上的刺激)”切合文意,上下文紧密连接。故选A。 【19题详解】 根据前文“Another possible reason why our brains love lists is something called the “Zeigarnik Effect”. The temperature was below zero so I rushed into the sub way station, hoping to get warm. Warmth came to my body as I settled onto a bench with a cup of hot coffee. Now I was ready to relax and do some serious people-watching. I noticed a homeless man seated nearby. The pleasant smell of delicious food from the subway food court (美食广场) was attracting me to consider an early dinner. From the longing look in my neighbor’s eyes, it was obvious that he, too, noticed the good smell. I wondered how long it had been since he had eaten anything, expecting he would approach me for some food. But he never did. My head and heart were battling it out: the former telling me to mind my own business, and the latter urging me to make an immediate trip to the food court for him. While this inner debate was fierce, a well-dressed young couple suddenly approached. “Excuse me, sir,” began the husband. “We just finished eating and our appetite wasn’t as big as we thought. We hate to waste food. Can you help us out and put this to good use?” The kind stranger handed a large container with food. “Thank you.” came the grateful reply. Feeling good about what I had seen, but disappointed by my own lack of action, I observed my neighbor’s response to his sudden good fortune. He lifted the soup, cupping his hands around the steaming bowl. It was obvious that he was going to enjoy this miracle meal. He opened mouth and suddenly, he stopped. The reason for this unexpected behavior soon became clear. Entering the hall was a new arrival, in his seventies, without a hat and gloves. His lightweight jacket was a poor protection against cold. His face and hands were red and damaged. People around focused on him with pity and whispered at this sad sight. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 My neighbor was the only one taking action. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I went to buy food from the food court, with tears welling up in my eyes. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: My neighbor was the only one taking action. Quickly putting aside his miracle meal, my neighbour stood up and guided the elderly man to share his seat. Hardly had he seated himself when my neighbour tenderly put his jacket over the elderly man’s shoulders. He said with a smile, “Can you help out?”, passing the meal and placing the steaming cup of soup in his hands. The old man obviously was astonished, but he accepted it with gratitude. Seeing this, I was so ashamed of myself. At the moment, my head and heart stopped battling, determined to buy a meal for my neighbour. I went to buy food from the food court, with tears welling up in my eyes. What my neighbour said exactly spoke my mind. Despite a sense of guilt in my heart, I felt it was my job to do the same. After a while, I came back with steaming soup and a sandwich. I approached my neighbour respectfully, “Can you help me out?” I asked “Why not?” He responded jokingly. People around cast admiring look on me, which made me relieved. It wasn’t until that day that I truly understand the meaning of sharing. I left the subway station, feeling warmer, even if the bitter cold wind filled the air. 词汇激活 行为类 ①放下:put aside/set down/lay aside ②站起来:stand up/rise to one’s feet/get up ③接近:approach/come up to/walk up to 情绪类 ①惊讶的:astonished/surprised ②感激:gratitude/appreciation 【点睛】【高分句型1】Seeing this, I was so ashamed of myself.(运用了现在分词短语作状语) 【高分句型2】People around cast admiring look on me, which made me relieved.(运用了which引导的非限制性定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024—2025年度高二年级第二学期期末考试 英语学科 考生注意: 1. 1. 4 What was the main purpose of the author’s trip to Punta Cana? C Companies have been switching from, plastic straws to paper ones on the grounds of being more environmentally friendly. C. Paper straws are more likely to contain forever chemicals B. Paper straws have entirely taken the place of plastic straws C. Paper straws have caused dangerous, health problems to humans D. Paper straws will become the best alternative for us in the future D Thanks to technology development, healthcare services are more accessible than ever. A. They will suffer from terrible loneliness. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容:从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Productivity can be a struggle for many of us. G. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
