With the seasons changing, now is the perfect time to start planning summer experiences at outdoor theatres in parks, city squares, woodlands and even the side of a cliff! We’ve put together a list of the best ones to visit across the UK.
Grosvenor Park, Chester
Every summer, Storyhouse theatre packs up their items and builds an entire amphitheatre (圆形剧场) in Grosvenor Park. This year’s programme sees an eclectic trio:
The Gangs of New York, The I’m portance of Being Earnest and The Wizard of Oz. I’m most excited by the first: a new adaptation written by Kieran Lynn and directed by John Young. I don’t think this story has ever been staged before and it seems like a wild pick for a summer outdoor show.
Minack Theatre, Cornwall
Built into a cliff face in Porthcurno, you hardly need an excuse to visit this theatre. Seeing anything at all, backgrounded by the azure Cornish sea, will be an unforgettable experience. This year sees touring productions of Little Shop of Horrors, and the less-known works of Shakespeare.
Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Highland Perthshire
Throughout most of the year, the Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s indoor concert hall and studio serve as their regular performance spaces. But this summer, you can see equally lavish productions at the amphitheatre, located in the woods and overlooking Ben-Y-Vrackie mountain. This year they’ll be staging Dido and Aeneas.
Shakespeare in the Squares, London
Is there anything more luxuriously summery than lazing down to your local square for a bit of Shakespeare and a picnic? These guys do what they say on the tin, travelling across the squares of London with a new Shakespeare production every year. This year will be All’s Well That Ends Well.

This year, the Chinese animated film Nezha2 has taken the global box office by storm, achieving widespread praise and leading to a travel boom across the country. The “China Movie Consumption Year” campaign started this April nationwide, inviting audiences not only into theaters but also onto movie-inspired journeys across the country.
On April 19, a special train called “Yichun” set off from Harbin in China’s Heilongjiang Province, carrying more than 100 tourists from Singapore, Malaysia, and other countries on an immersive (身临其境的) tour that combined cinema and travel. Organized by the National Film Administration and the China State Railway Group, this “film + tourism” train project aims to create new travel experiences by combining film culture with rail tourism. With the convenience of China’s railway network, the program connects movie scenes with real-world destinations, offering travelers a unique cultural adventure. Once on board, travelers can enjoy screenings of classic historical and documentary films, music from popular movies, poster exhibitions, cultural souvenirs, and interactive film-themed activities — all while taking in scenic views and tasting local food.

We're familiar with the trappings of onscreen science fiction (sci-fi), many of which generously expand the possibilities of real science. But it is not just a place for imagination: it holds an important position in contemporary culture, and its influence can be seen in the direction of some real scientific and technological advances.
Onscreen sci-fi is extremely popular, taking up four of the current top five box office hits. It's also central to the history of film: the move to narrative film making, which defined cinema as we know it today, is widely associated with the film 4 Trip to the Moon, made by Meliès who saw the potential for creating special effects. A film scholar includes this film among the “32 most significant moments in the history of film”, stating it changed the way movies were produced.
Science fiction serves as an inspiration for real life. Many common devices were imagined in sci-fi before entering the real world. The classic series Star Trek features several everyday technologies that seemed unbelievable in the 1960s: video calls, automatic sliding doors, and flip phones (翻盖手机). Among them, flip phones are already becoming a thing of the past, but the rise of foldable smartphones evokes the folding screens found in other popular science fiction such as Minority Report or Westworld.
The influence of particular works of science fiction extends beyond technology 'and can even shape scientific investigations. In making the successful sci-fi movie Interstellar, Franklin, the visual effects supervisor, worked with a physicist, Thorne, to create better black hole images. This was no small task for either of them, so they worked tirelessly together. The result provided new insights on gravitational lensing (透镜效应)around black holes, which was published in two technical papers after the film's release.
So, the influence of oniscreen sci-fi is not reserved for box-office takings, but can inspire real changes in science and society. Although we are not sure what inventions may emerge from the screen in future years, we anticipate that they continue to provide fantastic development for our life.
12.Why was A Trip to the Moon mentioned?
A.To define the feature of current sci-fi films.
B.To highlight talents of a sci-fi film director.
C.To display the potential of film special effects.
D.To show sci-fi films' role in film development.
13.What does the underlined word “evokes" mean in paragraph 3?
A.Recalls. B.Inspires, C.Abandons. D.Updates.
14.What was the unexpected result of the cooperation between Franklin and Thorne?
A.The discovery of a universal theory, B.The better pictures of black holes.
C.The publication of scientific articles. D.The commercial success of a film.
15.What is the author's attitude towards sci-fi films?
A.Positive. B.Unclear C.Objective D.Negative.
【答案】12.D 13.A 14.C 15.A

第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
The world of stage and screen has always been a fascinating place where stories come to life. Whether through exciting live performances or amazing pictures, both media transport audiences to different worlds. From Shakespeare’s timeless plays to today’s blockbuster films, stories change, but their goal remains the same: to connect people through shared experiences. 16
The most striking difference lies in their very nature of presentation. On stage, actors perform live, making each show special with small changes in how they act and interact with the audience. 17 They are made over months or even years, with scenes carefully edited until they’re perfect. The final product is a polished piece of art that can be watched by people everywhere, but it doesn’t have the same effect as live theater.
18 Theater relies more on dialogue and live performances to unfold the plot, while films use special effects, music, and camera angles to make scenes more dramatic. However, both depend on skilled actors, creative directors, and strong storytelling to make the audience believe in the characters and their world.
Interestingly, these two art forms continually inspire and influence each other. Many successful plays have been adapted into films, and many films have been brought to the stage. 19 This back-and-forth between theater and cinema makes both art forms richer and keeps storytelling fresh.
Whether you prefer the live feeling of the stage or the big spectacle of the screen, both media offer you unique ways to enjoy stories. 20 So, the next time you watch a play or a movie, take a moment to appreciate the hard work and creativity of making these experiences unforgettable.
A.The techniques for storytelling differ, too.
B.They both have their own strengths and weaknesses.
C.Films, however, are made piece by piece, with some scenes shot many times.
D.What you should value is stories’ universal charm in bringing people together.
E.This connection explains why both forms continue to thrive in our digital age.
F.While united in this fundamental goal, theater and film achieve it through contrasting approaches.
G.Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables, for example, found new life first as a musical and later a major film.

My comments on a movie I like
Last weekend, I watched a movie named Forrest Gump《阿甘正传》, which I like very much and from which I have learned a lot about life lessons. It is a 1994 American comedy-drama movie based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom.
The movie tells the story of a man with low IQ but good intentions. The movie follows his life from childhood to adulthood. Through his life, Forrest encounters many people, experiences the Vietnam War, meets President Kennedy, and even becomes a table tennis champion. He also finds his true love, Jenny.

第二节 书面表达(满分25分)
47.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As is well-known, some plays in the world are so successful that they run for years on end. In many ways, this is unfortunate for some poor actors who are required to go on repeating the same lines night after night in the play. In fact, people tend to expect them to know their parts by heart and never have cause to falter (结巴) when they are performing on the stage. Yet this is not always the case.
A famous actor in a highly successful play was once cast in the role of a nobleman who had been imprisoned in the Bastille for twenty years. In the last act, a gaoler (狱卒) would always come on to the stage with a letter which he would hand to the prisoner. Even though the nobleman was expected to read the letter at each performance, he always insisted that it should be written out in full.
One night, the gaoler decided to play a joke on his colleague to find out if, after so many performances, he had managed to learn the contents of the letter by heart. Thus, before the last act, he secretly replaced the letter full of contents with a blank sheet of paper.
Then came the last scene. The curtain slowly went up on the final act of the play and revealed the nobleman sitting alone behind bars in his dark cell (牢房). Just then, the gaoler appeared with the precious letter in his hands. He entered the cell and presented the letter to the prisoner without hesitation. But the copy he gave him had not been written out in full as usual. It was simply a blank sheet of paper. The gaoler looked on eagerly, anxious to see whether his fellow actor had at last learnt his lines.
注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Opening the letter, the nobleman amazingly found it totally blank.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
It was much to the gaoler’s surprise that the nobleman would return the letter to him.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Opening the letter, the nobleman amazingly found it totally blank. The nobleman did not know what had gone wrong, but it was too late to change the letter, and he could not ask why. This is the final act, which must bring the whole play to a successful conclusion. After a brief pause, as if he knew something, he calmly handed the letter back to the gaoler.
It was much to the gaoler’s surprise that the nobleman would return the letter to him. How could he read it without letters? Did he really know his lines by heart? The gaoler, confused, waited to see. The actor who played the nobleman had already memorized the contents of the letter. He knew that someone was going to play a joke on him, so he didn't even need the prop paper to let people know what he was capable of. He played the last scene smoothly as usual.

Having s 38 quite a few productions of Hamlet and read the play many times, I was full of c 39 until the Peking Opera came to town!
D 40 back to the 18th century, Peking Opera has over two hundred years of history. Does this mean it’s easier than a Shakespeare play to understand? To find out the answer, I just had to go and see The Revenge of Prince Zidan — the Peking Opera v 41 of Hamlet.
Easily my favourite part of the show was how the characters moved on stage. I had never seen Prince Hamlet do a backflip before! That was simply i 42 . It was so dazzling and energetic that I wasn’t sure if the characters were performers 43 athletes! Everyone was clapping.
Before experiencing The Revenge of Prince Zidan, I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it. But, in fact, I was on the 44 of my seat! Feeling the strong emotions of love, anger, fear and grief in the performance, I could easily recognise the theme of Hamlet. So, if you want to see a show that combines music, singing, drama, poetry and costume design with explosive effect, The Revenge of Prince Zidan 45 all the right boxes!

注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右;
