(24-25高一下·河南·期末)A community project in England called “Frome’s Missing Links” is creating a safe path through the countryside for walkers and cyclists. The newest section of this path, known as Stage 2, stretches (延伸) 1.3 kilometers between Colliers Way and Elliots Lane. Originally built in 2018, its surface was too uneven for comfortable use. Thanks to successful public donations collected in 2024, workers have now covered this section with smooth materials, making it suitable for bicycles, wheelchairs, and horses. The improved path officially reopened on April 26th at a celebration attended by local leaders.
Volunteers began preparing this area back in 2015, Over 120 helpers cleared head-high plants and removed old train tracks during the first weekend alone. They worked for several years, building steps and placing long seats made from old railway materials. Project leader Richard Ackroyd explained their progress: “We had support from the rail company to deal with land ownership challenges.” The path now connects directly to Route 24 of the national bike network.
This improvement matters because it provides a safe environment for narrow country roads between Frome and Radstock. Geoff Pell from the project noted: “Many people consider road cycling dangerous. This gives them a safe place to exercise.” Funding came from different sources — £30,000 from the local government, £27,000 from public donations, plus support from sports organizations. An unnamed person promised to match donations, helping to complete the £140,000 upgrade.
Looking ahead, two remaining sections need completion. The northern path requires bridges and an underground passage, while the southern connection toward Longleat is a little simple. Ackroyd believes the southern section might finish first. This entire project forms part of a larger 76-mile traffic-free Somerset Circle route connecting local towns. Other community groups are working on nearby sections to complete this valuable network across the region.
4.What was the main improvement made to Stage 2?
A.More lights were added. B.The road was smoothed.
C.The road was lengthened. D.Wasted materials were removed.
5.What did volunteers do at first to help with the project?
A.They built bridges. B.They cleared the ground.
C.They collected donations. D.They designed the bike path.
6.What can we know about the money for the upgrade?
A.Sports groups paid most costs.
B.It came only from public donations.
C.An unknown person helped fill the funding gap.
D.The local government contributed the highest amount.
7.What do we know about the project?
A.It connects some local towns. B.It’s a 76-mile circle route.

第三部分 写作
第一节 读后续写
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Jason and his two-year-old daughter walked into a busy airport. The girl wore a bright red hat and smiled as she looked around at the tall windows and long lines of people. The hall was filled with voices, rolling suitcases, and the announcements over loudspeakers. They had come early to make sure they had enough time for their flight.
They reached the check-in counter (柜台) well before their flight. Jason smiled at the agent (工作人员) and placed two small bags on the scale. Jason gently lifted his daughter onto the counter beside his suitcase. The agent asked, “May I have your tickets, please?” The agent scanned his boarding pass, then looked at the girl. “I’m sorry,” she said, in a soft but firm voice, “your daughter needs her own ticket. Our rules say any child over twenty-four months needs a full-price seat.”
Jason blinked (眨眼睛) in surprise. He mistakenly thought his daughter was free because of her age. He looked down at his daughter’s small feet and remembered how he had held her when she was a baby. “But she is only two years old,” Jason said softly. “I did not know she needed a ticket.” The agent shook her head. “I know it is confusing. But our system will not let me continue without the extra ticket.”
Jason took a deep breath and checked his wallet. Inside were a few bills, a credit card, and a hope that he could somehow fix this. He turned to the agent, “I don’t have enough money right now. The ticket costs…?” She tapped the screen. “Seven hundred forty-nine dollars.” He swallowed hard and whispered, “I do not…” He felt his face going red as he stepped back from the counter. He bent down and hugged his daughter close. “Sweetie, I need to make a quick call,” he said. Then he walked away, with phone in hand, his steps slow and heavy.

I want to repay you. May I have your name, please?”
The woman smiled and shook her head, saying “You don’t need to repay me.” “I just wanted to help,” she added. “It was nothing big, really. Enjoy your trip with your daughter.” Before Jason could try again to learn her name or offer his thanks in some other way, she turned around and walked down the line of people waiting to check in. Jason watched her and thought about the stranger’s act of kindness. He felt both grateful and humbled. He looked at his daughter’s red hat and decided to teach her to help others, just as the stranger had helped them.
