In the remote town of Yangla, located over 3,000 meters above sea level in the
mountains of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture,Yunnan Province,32-year-old
doctor Nasheng is devoted to providing healthcare to more than 5,400 villagers.
Nasheng graduated in Tibetan medicine from Qinghai University in Qinghai
Province. Her passion for the field was inspired after witnessing the difficulties faced
by her fellow villagers."I saw how difficult it was for my family to access medical
treatment in inland areas -long journeys, language barriers, and cultural
differences made it even harder,"she said.
When she arrived at the Yangla Town health center in September 2021,she
was struck by the isolation()of the area. Her accommodation is a simple room
inside the inpatient ward.Other than a barbecue restaurant, there are no other
entertainment options in town.
Although Yangla Town has a small population, its villages are spread across
more than 1,000 square kilometers, often requiring several hours of travel by car to
reach each one.
This made Nasheng aware that even though the village had a health station,
many residents still struggled to reach it due to the area's vastness."What if there
were another station here?"she wondered.After submitting a proposal,and with
support from the local government,a basic health station was established in June
英语试题第4页(共12页)

is seeing patients there,"Nasheng said. The Yangla Town health center also
organizes mobile free clinics in different villages every month, supported by a
committed team of over 20 staff members.
Looking ahead, she hopes to continue her studies."Iwant to pursue a master's
degree and learn more about acupuncture(针灸)techniques,”she said.“But no
matter what,I'll always come back-this is my home.

Musicality may have emerged in a common ancestor of chimps(大猩猩)and
humans,as both species share similarities in how they drum().
Catherine Hobaiter at the University of St Andrews,UK,and her teammates
examined 371 examples of drumming from two of Africa's four chimp subspecies:the
western chimp and the easter chimp. They observed that chimps use their hands and
feet to produce rapid-fire drumming, often on buttress roots, during activities like
resting, travelling or making threat displays. The researchers found that chimps
drum much faster than most humans."The longest drum we recorded was over5
seconds, while the shortest was less than 0.1 seconds,"says Hobaiter.
Despite these differences, chimps show some of the core building blocks of
human musical rhythm(),says team member Vesta Eleuteri at the University
of Vien Austria. They drum with rhythm,as opposed torandomly, and they

use a typical rhythm observed cro musicaluecalled ioy conitinof
hits that are regularly spaced, like the ticking of a elock."The team also found that
the two subspecies drummed with different rhythms.
Miguel Llorente at the University of Girona in Spain says the idea that different
subspecies show distinct drumming styles is appealing."It opens the door to
thinking about these patterns not just as individual habits, but potentially as cultural
differences in how groups use drumming as a communicative tool."
"We don't mean that chimp drumming shows the complexity of modern human
musical rhythms,"says Hobaiter."But this is the first time that we've been able to
show that they share the same rhythmic building blocks, making it likely that rhythm
was a part of our social world long before we became human.""Until recently,it
was argued that rhythmicity was unique to humans,"says Gisela Kaplan at the
University of New England,Australia."We now have plenty of evidence that this is
not the case.”
28.Why did Hobaiter's team study chimp drumming?
A.It is similar to human drumming.
B.Chimps drum faster than humans.
C.It is different between two subspecies.
D.Chimps play drum during many activities.
29.What did researchers discover about chimp drumming?
A.It is a conversation tool.
B.It is performed randomly.
C.Different subspecies show distinct rhythms.
D.Chimps use drumming to avoid cultural conflicts.
30.What can we know from the last paragraph?
A.Rhythmicity was unique to humans.
B.Human invented rhythmic building blocks.
C.Chimps developed rhythmic sense by observing humans.
D.Chimps share the same rhythmic building blocks as humans.
31.What is Gisela Kaplan's attitude towards the finding?
A.Doubtful.
B.Supportive.
C.Unclear.
D.Critical.

英语试题第6页(共12页)
"Chronic pain is more than a sensory experience;it's incredibly emotional,"
says Nell Norman-Nott at the University of New South Wales,Australia."We see
increased levels of anxiety and depression in up to about 80 percent of people with
chronic pain."This leads to a "vicious cycle",where pre-pain increases negative
emotions,which then worsen pain,she says.
To see if they could break the cycle,Norman-Nott and her team used a programme
that focused on mindfulness, emotion regulation and pain tolerance.Eighty-nine
people with chronic pain, lasting 16 years on average, were randomised to receive
either the programme, delivered by a therapist through an eight-week online course,
while continuing with any treatments they were already receiving, such as medication
or physical therapy,or to just continue with their usual treatment.
Nine weeks later, those in the therapy group experienced an improvement in
emotional regulation of about 5 points more than those in the control group. The
intensity of their pain also started to lessen at week 9,and by 21 weeks they
experienced significantly less pain than those in the control group.
"I think that's interesting and promising,"says Benedict Alter at the University
of Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania. It could also help people with limited access to in-
person care,he says."It's great that they did this as internet-based.It's a huge
problem that there are small numbers of providers who do therapy, and they tend to
be in urban areas.”
Exactly how the therapy reduces pain is unclear, says Alter, but "at any given
pain intensity,if you had better emotional regulation, people's overall lives would be
better:less suffering, less functional limitation.I think pain intensity decreases as
everything gets better."The mechanism could be uncovered in larger studies,he says.
32.What does“vicious cycle'”refer to?
A.People with chronic pain are increasing.
B.Regulating negative emotions eases chronic pain.
C.Chronic pain and negative emotions worsen each other.
D.The new therapy is more effective than existing treatments.
33.How did Norman-Nott's team prove the therapy's effectiveness?
A.By observing the usual treatment.
B.By contrasting week 9 and week 21 results.
C.By stopping usual treatments for participants.
D.By comparing therapy and control group results.
英语试题第7页(共12页)
34.Why is the therapy "promising"according to Benedict Alter?
A.It provides training to the urban therapists.
B.It focuses on in-person therapy improvements
C.It aids those with limited in-person care access.
D.It equips patients in rural areas with internet skills.
35.What might the future studies focus on?
A.Investigating how the therapy reduces pain.
B.Comparing online therapy with in-person care.
C.Analyzing the effects of the eight-week course.
D.Testing the therapy on patients with intense pain.

Dear Chris,
I was delighted to learn about your “Recycle for Change” initiative. It’s a timely and inspiring effort that not only promotes environmental responsibility but also encourages students to adopt sustainable habits in their daily lives.
To enhance its impact, I suggest placing clearly labeled recycling stations in high-traffic areas such as the cafeteria, dormitories, and library. It may also help to organize regular clean-up days or recycling drives, where students can actively take part in waste sorting. In addition, inviting student volunteers to serve as “Green Ambassadors” could spread the message more effectively and build a stronger sense of shared responsibility.
I truly look forward to seeing the positive changes this project will bring to our campus.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节读后续写 (满分25分)
I started practicing early every day. I arrived early, jogging laps and stretching sore muscles. My legs ached, and my lungs burned, but I kept going. Every drop of sweat reminded me that a big game was coming, and I had to be ready. Some younger players helped me with my stance and catching. "You’ve got heart, Mama Platt," one said after I finally caught the ball. That moment lit something inside me. With the first game of the season just around the corner, I trained even harder, hoping I could truly contribute to the team.
The first game of the season came. I stood on the field in my "Mama Platt" jersey, number 74 glowing. I could almost feel some skeptical glances, but I knew I had to focus on the game for my team, especially for myself. During the whole match, we work together, chase the ball actively. The buzzer sounded as I goaled a ball. The whole team erupted in cheers. Teammates held me up, chanting "Mama Platt!" My family screamed from the stands, and I laughed, sweat dripping down my face. Finally, I was part of a team—and we’d won.

Text 1
W: Do you remember that I helped a lady when her bag was stolen? Well, one of her books has been adapted into a big Hollywood film, (1) and she invited me to the first showing!
M: Wow, kindness really does come back to you!
Text 2
M: It’s no good. We’ve been to the top of the hill, but I’m still not getting a signal.
W: Luckily, I brought my paper map! Let me see… If we head south, there’s a small river that we can follow all the way back to camp. (2)
Text 3
M: Have you seen my history book, Mom? I had it at school, but I think I brought it home.
W: Maybe check your bag? That’s the usual place where books are carried. (3)
M: Good idea. Oh no, wait a minute. It’s on the dining table.
Text 4
W: David, I’m wondering if you can lend me some butter. I’m planning to make bread for my son.
M: Let me get some for you. Are there any other things you need?
W: No. Why not come to enjoy the bread with us tonight? (4)
Text 5
M: Didn’t you set up your own flower shop recently?
W: Yeah, it’s going really well! I sold lots of flowers and made good money, so I rented a bigger place to fit more flowers. I’m also thinking of teaching people how to make pretty flower arrangements. (5)
Text 6 (第7题为推断题)
W: Are you excited about our exchange trip to Canada?
M: Sort of. However, right now, I can’t stop thinking about all the “What ifs?”.
W: Like what?
M: What if nobody understands what I’m saying? What if I miss home too much?
W: It’s okay. We can help each other. And our language skills are going to improve so much!
M: That’s the point. And I’m interested in exploring more about the culture.
W: Exactly. And best of all, we’ll make new friends! (6)
M: You’re right!
Text 7
M: I plan to get a part-time job this summer to earn my school fees next term. But now I’ve been offered an unpaid job at a local design company, (8) which is a perfect match for my major. What do I do? (8)
W: Oh, you should take the design job. (9) It would be great to get some real design experience, and it would be a good opportunity to find out if you truly like it.
M: Really?
W: Exactly. I worked at a local newspaper for some time last year, and I wouldn’t be where I am now without it. (10)
M: Wait… Don’t you major in marketing?
W: Yeah! Trying out my chosen career helped me realize that the job wasn’t for me! (10) Without that, I might have spent a long time studying the wrong major.
M: Good point!
Text 8
W: Look at that little tree growing in the middle of the grass! What a strange place to plant it.
M: It was probably the work of squirrels (松鼠). In autumn, they hide nuts underground to eat throughout the winter. (11) But of course, some get forgotten about. So, the minute the weather starts warming up like this…
W: Wow! I wonder if the park keepers will let it stay there. (12)
M: Who knows? But it’s clever how the tree and the squirrel work together without even knowing it.
W: Yeah! A perfect example of “teamwork making the dream work”.
M: Exactly. The tree feeds the squirrel, and the squirrel carries the baby trees away from their parents, so they’re not competing for light and water.
W: It’s rather inspiring. No matter how small, we all have important parts to play. (13)
Text 9
W: I tried that chatbot app at the weekend. (15) (16) I can see why you’re so addicted to it! It feels like you’re talking to a real person.
M: Yeah!
W: It’s nice to have “someone” to talk about my interests with. (14) (15) Whenever I start telling my brother about books I like, he acts like he’s falling asleep! (14)
M: Ha-ha! Yeah, that’s my favorite thing about it. It’ll talk happily with me about video games for hours! (15)
W: The thing is that it just seemed to agree with me all the time.
M: Isn’t that good? No arguments!
W: No… It’s so boring! A good conversation challenges you and shows you new ways of thinking about things. Anyway, I got rid of it when it started asking me all these personal questions. (16)
M: You deleted it?
W: Yes! Why does it need to know my friends’ names? (16)
M: Well, humans ask questions like that.
W: But it’s not human. It’s a robot, owned by a company. And no matter how “nice” these chatbots are, we mustn’t forget about online safety. (16)
M: Good point.
Text 10 (第20题为总结题)
Good morning, everyone. Oh, sorry… Were you expecting someone in a jacket and tie to give today’s career speech? I suppose I don’t look much like a professional lawyer dressed like this. (17) (18) But, doesn’t what I say matter more than how I look? Well, yes or no…
If I were here to make friends, this would be perfect. Relaxed, friendly…and this band T-shirt always helps me find the other rock music fans in the room! (18) But would you give me a job in a law office? Probably not!
