B 41-year-old Dr. Rebecca Bradford’s journey from leaving school at 15 with no qualifications to becoming a successful doctor is capturing attention. Initially, Bradford’s path was unconventional. She began working in various jobs, including roles in retail and hospitality. Her turning point came when she decided to pursue further education through alternative routes. Bradford’s breakthrough came when she enrolled in adult education courses, eventually earning her GCSEs (普通中等教育证书) and A-levels. This academic resurgence helped her to enter university, where she pursued a degree in medicine. Dr. Bradford’s journey is not just about academic success but also about breaking fixed ideas. It challenges the belief that traditional schooling is the only path to professional success. “When I was young I was always told I would amount to nothing, and that I was stupid. I got sick of people telling me I couldn’t do things because I was a care leaver. I wanted to prove that people like me do deserve good things, and that they can get jobs that are fulfilling and well-paid,” Bradford explained. Bradford’s experience resonates (引起共鸣) with many who may feel disheartened by early academic failures or non-traditional educational paths. It serves as an inspirational reminder that it is never too late to pursue one’s dreams, and that setbacks can often be the forewarning to future victories. Dr. Bradford’s transformation from a school dropout because of illness to a respected doctor is a remarkable example of perseverance and self-belief. “I really believe that if your heart is in it, you can 100 per cent do the crazy things you’ve always dreamed of,” Bradford told the Daily Mirror. With determination and a willingness to embrace alternative educational opportunities, individuals can overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams, regardless of their starting point. 4. What does the underlined word “resurgence” in paragraph 2 most likely mean? A. Decline. B. Stability. C. Improvement. D. Conflict. 5. Why were Bradford’s words cited? A. To show her dissatisfaction with early jobs. B. To explain her motivation for success. C. To tell us why she chose medicine. D. To describe her work experience. 6. What message does Bradford’s story convey to others? A. Take risks. B. Work harder. C. Never give up. D. Learn from mistakes. 7. What’s the author’s attitude to Dr. Bradford? A. Indifferent. B. Objective. C. Critical. D. Admiring. C Elephants, the largest land mammals (哺乳动物) on the planet, are amazing animals and tourists come to African countries to see them. Due to successful protection efforts, the African elephant numbers in countries like Kenya are growing. In the country’s Tsavo National Park, numbers went from around 6,000 elephants to almost 15,000 in 2021. While this is good news for animal protectors, farmers who live between two parts of the park don’t feel the same way. As more people moved into the area, they took over elephant eating and walking areas. This led to problems that often ended in elephant deaths. Now a new answer using honeybees has been found to keep the elephants away from farms. This unusual answer is part of a project from the Save the Elephants group. The sound of African honeybees keeps elephants away. Now yellow beehive fences protect some local farms, including one owned by Kenyan farmer Charity Mwangome. “We used to hate elephants a lot,” she said. But she believes that the beehive fences saved her from losing her crops. A nine-year study found that bee fences kept elephants away 86.3 percent of the time. The study watched 26 farms protected by beehive fences in two villages near the park. During the growing seasons from 2014–2020, 3,027 elephants came near the fences and most stayed away. Even during the dry season of 2017, when bee numbers dropped by 75 percent, elephants still stayed away 76 percent of the time. Save the Elephants is now using beehive fences in 15 countries in Africa and Asia. Besides keeping elephants away, the bees help grow more crops and make honey that farmers can sell. Mwanajuma Kibula, who has a farm in Kenya, sells honey twice a year from her hives. She makes enough money to pay for her children’s school. While this answer isn’t perfect, it shows that elephants and humans can share the land peacefully. 8. What caused elephants to die? A. Loss of living spaces. B. Shortage of food sources. C. Attacks by wild animals. D. Impacts of climate change. 9. Why does the author mention Charity Mwangome? A. She faces frequent elephant threats. B. She lives in harmony with elephants. C. She mainly earns a living by farming. D. She tends to raise honeybees for money. 10. How does the fourth paragraph develop? A. By giving examples. B. By analyzing causes. C. By providing statistics. D. By following time order. 11. What benefit do farmers get? A. They earn extra money. B. They grow better crops. C. They save more time. D. They learn new skills. D If we do something bad, we typically feel guilty about it. However, moral disengagement (道德推脱) allows us to misbehave, and continue to feel good about ourselves, convinced that our own moral standards don’t apply to us. This psychological phenomenon mainly comes in 4 forms. To learn about them, meet Sarah, a 16-year-old who was bullied (欺凌) in school. When the teacher talks to those responsible, they each use one type of moral disengagement to explain themselves. Martin is the first to respond. He says: “I was just trying to make her strong. The world’s a hard place, and if she can’t take a little teasing, how is she going to survive?” He uses moral justification (正当理由) to excuse himself as a sort of public service. Debora states that it’s not her fault, because the others made her do it. She plays the victim, claiming that she was just following orders. This is called displacement of responsibility. By pointing to the others involved, Daniel is minimizing his role and thus weakening responsibility. Anna says that other kids out there are stealing, but they were just having fun. By contrasting her behavior with things she considers worse, she makes her own actions appear fine. Anna employs advantageous comparison. The teacher realizes what’s going on. He tells each one personally that he does not tolerate such behavior in his class, suspends the 4 bullies for a week, and gives them homework for them to reflect on their weak justifications. The next week in class, he presents the 4 principles and explains how moral disengagement can lead to an increase in violence and a reduction in sympathy. He demands that the students should not engage in any immoral behavior again. The theory was developed by Albert Bandura, a psychologist best known for his work on the social learning theory. On moral disengagement, he wrote: “Most people have standards against which they evaluate the morality of their actions. However, such self-restrictions do not operate unless they are activated.” 12. What is the purpose of moral disengagement? A. To increase people’s sense of guilt. B. To justify people’s immoral behaviour. C. To persuade people to obey the law. D. To encourage people to follow moral standards. 13. Who adopts displacement of responsibility? A. Debora. B. Daniel. C. Martin. D. Anna. 14. How does the teacher deal with the four students? A. He ignores their action. B. He criticises their behaviors. C. He punishes and educates them. D. He commands them to reflect. 15. Which is the best title for the passage? A. School Bullying: Causes and Effects B. Albert Bandura’s Contributions to Psychology C. How Teachers Should Handle Classroom Conflicts D. Moral Disengagement: Four Mental Tricks People Use Stop Chasing Comfort to Build the Future You Discomfort isn’t the enemy, it’s the entry point. Life’s transitions (转变), whether chosen or forced, are often uncomfortable. But that discomfort? ____16____ Three ways to embrace it. Lean Into Stretch Experiences ____17____ Transitions often feel heavy because we carry the weight of outdated expectations and identity scripts. Our narrative identity is the evolving story we tell ourselves about who we are. To move forward with intention, we must first release what no longer serves us. Next, seek out stretch experiences: take a solo trip, learn a new skill, or pursue a goal that scares you. These challenges start the growth mindset (观念模式), the belief that abilities evolve through effort. ____18____ The goal isn’t to erase the past. It’s to loosen your grip on who you were, so you can grow into who you’re becoming. ____19____ To evolve, we need mirrors. Honest feedback from trusted mentors, friends, or colleagues can offer blind-spot clarity and help expand our sense of self. At the same time, self-reflection practices like journaling, mindfulness, or even voice notes reflection can deepen self-concept clarity and a stable, clear understanding of who you are across time. Treat identity as a draft, not a declaration, ask: What part of me is ready to be released? What values no longer fit? Focus on Progress, Not Perfection Nature doesn’t grow in straight lines, and neither do you. Progress is often irregular, nonlinear, and full of feedback loops. Instead of forcing a rigid plan, consider a small-step mindset: the idea that small, self-similar shifts across different areas of life can lead to huge transformation. This is how change works in the real world: through micro-adjustments. ____20____ Remake one piece of internal dialogue. Swap one unhelpful habit for something enriching. Each act shapes your brain for change, strengthening the principle of neuroplasticity (神经元可塑性), that your brain is always capable of reorganizing toward who you’re becoming. A. Understand Who You Are. B. Growth rarely happens in comfort. C. Shift your morning routine by five minutes. D. Invite Honest Feedback and Self-Reflection. E. Life transitions often set off identity crisis. F. It’s not just to be survived, but it’s the fuel for growth and transformation. G. Stretching yourself builds confidence, adaptability, and a capacity for uncertainty. On the first day of summer vacation, I wandered along the muddy riverbank behind our village. Books were his refuge (庇护), helping him escape school pressures and his strict father’s high expectations. One such afternoon, as he searched for astronomy guides, a soft cry broke the silence. Behind a dusty shelf, he found a trembling brown puppy, its fur matted, eyes wide with fear. A torn blue collar read “Buddy”. Leo glanced around but no one was near. His heart beat as he knelt, whispering, “Hey little guy... Are you lost?” The puppy shook but licked (舔) his hand. Then, the “No Pets Allowed” sign at the entrance flashed in his mind — getting caught meant losing library privileges and facing his father’s anger. Just then, footsteps echoed. Mrs Gable, the strict librarian, was approaching! In a panic, Leo hid Buddy under his oversized bag. Incredibly, the puppy stayed still as Mrs Gable blamed Leo for sitting on the floor. Sweating, Leo apologized and rushed into the heavy rain, heading to a bus shelter. Under the shelter, Leo examined Buddy. The dog licked his cheek, drawing a rare laugh from him. But reality hit — where could he take the puppy? His father’s “no distractions” rule came to his mind. As thunder rumbled, Leo spotted a faded “Lost Dog” poster. His stomach dropped — it was Buddy’s, with a phone number. Taking a deep breath, Leo pulled out his kid’s smartwatch. His fingers hesitated for a moment as he dialed the number, thinking of his father’s strictness. The call connected quickly, and a trembling, anxious voice came through: “Hello? Have you seen our Buddy?” Leo explained the situation. His words rushed yet clear, and then waited under the shelter, rain pattering around him. For half an hour, an elderly couple rushed toward the bus shelter. Leo stood, puppy in arms, unsure what lay ahead of him. As the couple drew closer, the old man’s eyes widened. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Arriving home, Leo showed his father the note. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 铜仁市2025年7月高二年级教学质量监测 英语 本试卷共10页。 1. 4. A 9. A 10. C 11. 故选A项。 D If we do something bad, we typically feel guilty about it. Moral Disengagement: Four Mental Tricks People Use 【答案】12. 16. F 17. E 18. G 19. D 20. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 As the couple drew closer, the old man’s eyes widened. “Buddy!” he exclaimed, rushing forward. The puppy wriggled in Leo’s arms, yelping with joy at the sight of them. The old woman held out her hands, tears streaming down her cheeks. “Thank you, dear boy. We’ve been searching everywhere,” she said, her voice trembling. She pressed a note into Leo’s palm. “Please accept this. It’s the least we can do.” Leo took the note, puzzled to know what on earth was written in it. As they left, the old man turned back, smiling to say, “You have a kind heart, young man.” Arriving home, Leo showed his father the note. His father frowned, but as he read, his expression softened. The note thanked Leo for his bravery and kindness, mentioning that Buddy was their late grandson’s beloved pet. Leo’s father sighed, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Doing the right thing matters more than rules sometimes,” he said quietly. Leo looked up, surprised. For the first time, he saw a hint of warmth in his father’s eyes. Maybe strict as he was, his father cared about more than just discipline. 词汇激活 行为类: ①冲向前:rush forward/dash ahead ②扭动:wriggle/squirm ③拒绝:refuse/decline 情感类: ①感激:thank/express gratitude ②温暖:warmth/tenderness 【点睛】[高分句型 1]The old woman held out her hands, tears streaming down her cheeks.(运用了tears streaming down her cheeks独立主格结构) [高分句型 2]As they left, the old man turned back, smiling to say, “You have a kind heart, young man.”(运用了as引导的时间状语从句,以及现在分词短语smiling to say作伴随状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
