On the other side of White Road lies University of Bristol. It’s also a favourite spot for students as there are nice pubs, sandwich bars and spoon cafes as well.
Famous residents

Beijing helped make my dreams come true. When I studied in Beijing, it heard my voice, accompanied me through sunrise and sunset and gave me courage to move forward.
The beauty of Beijing is deeply carved in my mind. Against the red walls and green riles (瓦) of the Forbidden City, sparkling snowflakes float down from the sky, creating a beautiful and serene picture.
To me, who grew up in the tropics, snow seems as attractive as the forbidden fruit from the Garden of Eden. After a night's snow, everywhere magically becomes as beautiful as a fairy tale.
Did you see the first snow in Beijing in the winter of 2020-2021? I saw it and touched it in person. Located in the outskirts (市郊) of Beijing, Beijing WTown (古北水镇) is a small town with many of the architectural features of the classical gardens in the historical city of Suzhou in eastern China. When snow fall, it looks like a perfect landscape painting. I still feel warm when I recall the scene now, and words can't adequately express my feelings at that time. A scene like this is capable of relieving any amount stress for tourists.
I love Beijing not only for its fascinating sights but also for the precious friendship I established with international students studying here. Beijing is a place where students from various countries meet. Although it often seems exciting when we meet, saying goodbye remains inevitable. Even though all good things must come to an end, everything has its season, and the time to come together will come again.
Many other moments inspire me to express my feelings to Beijing. I know that these memories will eventually dissolve in fragments of time, but so what? I love Beijing and always will.
4. Why does the author compare snow to the forbidden fruit in paragraph 3?
A. To praise Beijing. B. To show her love of snow.
C. To describe snow. D. To state the truth of weather.
5. What does the underlined word “inevitable” in the last to second paragraph mean?
A. Unavoidable. B. Important. C. Valuable. D. Challenging.
6. What can we learn about the author according to the text?
A. She liked the sunrise and sunset in Beijing.
B. She was sensitive to the weather of Beijing.
C. She was attracted by different aspects in Beijing.
D. She felt both happy and sad in Beijing WTown.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. An Unforgettable Journey B. The Snow in Beijing
C. A Beautiful City—WTown D. My Beijing Fascination
【答案】4. B 5. A 6. C 7. D

Even though all good things must come to an end, everything has its season, and the time to come together will come again. 故选A项。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“The beauty of Beijing is deeply carved in my mind. Against the red walls and green riles (瓦) of the Forbidden City, sparkling snowflakes float down from the sky, creating a beautiful and serene picture. (北京的美丽深深地刻在我的脑海里。在紫禁城红墙绿瓦的映衬下,晶莹的雪花从天空飘落,营造出一幅美丽而宁静的画面。)”以及第四段“Did you see the first snow in Beijing in the winter of 2020-2021? I saw it and touched it in person. (北京帮助我实现了梦想。当我在北京学习的时候,它倾听我的声音,陪伴我度过日出日落,给了我前进的勇气。)”以及最后一段中的“I know that these memories will eventually dissolve in fragments of time, but so what? I love Beijing and always will. (我知道这些记忆最终会消散在时间的碎片中,但那又怎样呢?我爱北京,永远都会。)”可知,本文主要讲述了作者在北京学习期间,被北京的雪景、风景以及与国际学生建立的友谊等方面所吸引,表达了作者对北京的喜爱之情,所以题目“我对北京的迷恋” 作为标题最能概括文章主旨。故选D项。

Many economists (经济学家) today believe that self-interest is what drives competition and growth in market economies. However, in an increasingly interconnected society, it is even more important to have group skills. So we should encourage cooperation to better prepare children for the future.
In the present time marked with digital economy, cooperation is a valuable skill to have. As a research study conducted by Google shows, skills such as good communication and cooperation are important to employees compared to technical skills or knowledge. In contrast, intense (激烈的) competitive and individualistic behaviour may destroy social relations in the community of coworkers. Since no man is an island, even the most competitive employee will not be able to pursue his goals effectively without the help of others who are able to share a common understanding.
Moreover, encouraging cooperation helps develop a healthy sense of self-esteem in children that better prepares them for the competitive working world. The competitive culture include higher anxiety and depression among university students and office workers. It is primary for the builders of our future to be based on mutually beneficial cooperation rather than self-centre d competition. Teamwork can help a maturing individual realize that each has his or her own unique set of abilities and that another person's talents do not weaken the value of his or her talents.
We should encourage a spirit of cooperation more than a spirit of competition in children to better prepare them for an uncertain future. Cooperation opens for an individual a gateway to diverse skills and talents of others and importantly, enhances our chances of solving problems of the future. Furthermore, since cooperative activities can build confidence in children, it will also promote healthy competition within a generation that can better understand and tolerate others’ weaknesses.
8. What will intense competition lead to according to the study?
A. It can promote communications between people.
B. It could bring damage to partners’ relationships.
C. It will weaken one's ability in solving problems.
D. It enables one to share common views with others.
9. What does the author agree with according to paragraph 3?
A. Only by cooperation can children develop self-esteem.
B. One's abilities and another’s talents can’t work together.
C. It is important for builders of future to learn to cooperate.
D. Higher anxiety and depression don't exist among students.
10. What characteristic might cooperation have, as mentioned in the passage?
A. Focusing on self-centred competition.
B. Reducing the possibility of success.
C. Pursuing individual goals effectively.
D. Accepting teammates' shortcomings.
11. What is author’s intention to write the article?
A. To encourage a teamwork spirit in children.
B. To support fierce competition between children.
C. To warn children of uncertain trouble in the future.
D. To build up confidence in children through competition.
【答案】8. B 9. C 10. D 11. A
【解析】

【8题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“In contrast, intense (激烈的) competitive and individualistic behaviour may destroy social relations in the community of coworkers.(相比之下,激烈的竞争和个人主义行为可能会破坏同事社区的社会关系) ”可知,过度的激烈竞争行为会使同事之间的关系破裂。故选B。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“It is primary for the builders of our future to be based on mutually beneficial cooperation rather than self-centre d competition. Teamwork can help a maturing individual realize that each has his or her own unique set of abilities and that another person’s talents do not weaken the value of his or her talents.(我们未来的建设者首先要以互利合作而不是以自我为中心的竞争为基础。团队合作可以帮助一个成熟的人认识到,每个人都有自己独特的能力,别人的才能不会削弱他或她的才能的价值)”可推知,作者认为未来的建设者需要有合作精神。故选C项。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Furthermore, since cooperative activities can build confidence in children, it will also promote healthy competition within a generation that can better understand and tolerate others’ weaknesses.(此外,由于合作活动可以建立儿童的信心,它还将促进一代人之间的健康竞争,从而更好地理解和容忍他人的弱点)”可推知,接受队友的缺点是合作精神的一项特征。故选D。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段中心句“So we should encourage cooperation to better prepare children for the future.(因此,我们应该鼓励合作,让孩子们更好地为未来做好准备)”和最后一段中心句“We should encourage a spirit of cooperation more than a spirit of competition in children to better prepare them for an uncertain future.(我们应该鼓励孩子们的合作精神而不是竞争精神,以便他们更好地为不确定的未来做好准备)”可推知,作者写这篇文章的目的是为了鼓励孩子们的团队合作精神。故选A。

To people who love seafood, oysters (牡蛎) can be a delicious treat. Others value them as a source of precious pearls. But to Demi Johnson, a 15-year-old from Mississippi, US, oysters are very useful for the environment.
“After learning that oyster reefs and gardens are endangered, I felt inspired to help the environment and give back,” Johnson told WLOX, a news website.
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources says that the number of oysters in Mississippi’s coastal waters has dropped a lot because of human-made and natural disasters. Johnson argued that the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, as well as the 2020 opening of the Bonnet Care Spillway, a flood control project, made the situation more severe. “My solution is to partner with educational institutions and teach others to grow their own off-farm oysters,” she told How Africa News.
When Johnson started oyster gardening in 2022 at Schooner Pier on Biloxi Bay, she didn't know anything about the subject. Today, she’s something of an expert. Through oyster gardening, she learned many things: a single oyster can clean up to 50 gallons of seawater a day, removing algae and harmful organisms. Big groups of oysters form reefs, providing habitat for hundreds of other sea creatures.
Now, Johnson has already raised more than 1,500 oysters, which will have a tremendous ecological impact by releasing millions of larvae (幼虫) into the environment. During oyster gardening season, she and her mom go to Biloxi Bay to check her cages and remove algae and predators such as snails and crabs. She also tries to encourage others to get involved. “You don’t have to do a lot to take care of your oyster garden”, she told Times for Kids, “but the impact it has on the environment is great.”
She was also a great supporter of ecological causes. Last year, after winning a National Geographic award for her efforts to recover her state’s oyster population, Johnson donated the $1,000 cash prize to the Mississippi Oyster Gardening Program.
12. What inspired Demi Johnson to start oyster gardening?
A. Her great interest in seafood. B. Her concern about oyster reefs.
C. Her school project requirement. D. Her mother’s encouragement.
13. What contributes to the decline of oyster population?
A. Oil spilling and spillway opening. B. Hurricane damage and industrial pollution.
C. Overfishing and climate change. D. Habitat destruction and invasive species.
14. What are the ecological benefits of oyster reefs?
A. Producing pearls and serving as a food source.
B. Preventing coastal erosion and reducing flood risks.
C. Absorbing carbon dioxide and handling climate change.
D. Cleaning seawater and providing habitats for marine life.
15 How does Demi Johnson feel about oyster gardening?
A. Effortless but influential. B. Challenging yet rewarding.
C. Simple yet ineffective. D. Laborious but beneficial.
【答案】12. B 13. A 14. D 15. A

【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段““You don’t have to do a lot to take care of your oyster garden”, she told Times for Kids, “but the impact it has on the environment is great.”(“你不需要做很多事情来照料你的牡蛎养殖场,”她告诉《儿童时代》杂志,“但它对环境的影响是巨大的。”)”可推知,Demi Johnson认为养殖牡蛎不费力但很有影响力。故选A。

Good afternoon! I am Li Hua from Xingguang Middle School. The topic of my speech is “Actions for Greener Earth”.
There are still many problems of environment pollution. For example, the habitat of wild animals is on the decrease, causing the extinction of rare species. Therefore, we should join in the actions for greener Earth.
First of all, we’d better raise people’s awareness of environmental protection. For instance, a substantial number of nature reserves can be set up for the conservation of wildlife. What’s more, I regard it as my duty to help keep our environment clean and beautiful.
Finally, on behalf of students in our school, I call on people to save the limited natural resources, which we rely on for living.

第二节 (满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
A couple of months before I became a high school senior, my parents gave me the greatest gift any teenage boy could ask for: a cellphone. I lived on that phone all summer with my face buried in its screen. I ignored my family and my surroundings. Being connected was more important than being present.
So, you can imagine my displeasure when I learned what my dad had planned for our family vacation that year. “This year,” my dad said, “we’ll be doing something special. We’re going camping!” His excitement was met with a disappointed sigh. It wasn’t my dream vacation because mind was on my phone. I was so buried in the screen, in fact, that the first time I can remember truly looking up was when we drove across a bridge on the way to our campsite.
I stared out the window and saw redwoods towering above us. I saw a road stretching out like a ribbon. The air blowing into the car from the open windows was hot. But none of that mattered to me. The reason I had looked up was for something far more serious: my phone no longer had service.
The last hour of the drive was increasingly tense. My dad announced that he had chosen a campsite that had no cell service, and that my phone would be useless until we returned home. I would be trapped in the forest for four days with no way to contact the outside world! I went through the full cycle of teenage emotions during the first day of the trip. I raged. I bargained. I begged. I flip-flopped (转变) from a depressive state to anger and back.
I went to bed angrily that night. But when I awoke in the morning, something had changed.
1. 续写词数应为150词左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Instead of burying myself in my phone, I focused on something else: my surroundings.

The next four days passed in a flash with many fun activities.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Instead of burying myself in my phone, I focused on something else: my surroundings. I let the noise of the wilderness wash over me, animals and bugs creating a ruckus that was both loud and serene at the same time. My anger turned to peace, then little interest and, finally, excitement. Standing on the high campsite, I felt the weight of stress melt from my shoulders as I viewed the vast expanse that unfolded below me. The sight that met my startled eyes nearly took my breath away. For the first time, I thought camping in a place that had no cell service might not be so bad.
The next four days passed in a flash with many fun activities. I hiked. I swam. I fished. My dad and I learned how to start a fire together after several false starts. We cooked together and I ate the sweetest marshmallows I had ever tasted. Dad told me stories of his life, stories I had never heard or perhaps I hadn’t been listening. When the weekend came to an end, I realized I hadn’t thought of my phone once. I hadn’t felt the need to be connected to anywhere else. It dawned on me that what mattered most were the moments I was sharing with just my father and nature.

From as early as the 14th century it was a centre for international trade with Spain, Portugal, Iceland and others. Today, however, the main export is drum ‘n’ bass, which is a style of music made popular by home grown DJs like Roni Size and DJTrickv. Bristo’s music scene is a strong influence on the city's nightlife, shopping and fashion.

On the other side of White Road lies University of Bristol. It’s also a favourite spot for students as there are nice pubs, sandwich bars and spoon cafes as well.
Famous residents
Banksy, the UK’s most well-known graffiti artist, is originally from Bristol. He uses deserted buildings and walls as his canvas and you can see his art showcased on a number of the city’s buildings.

D. She felt both happy and sad in Beijing WTown.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. An Unforgettable Journey B. The Snow in Beijing
C. A Beautiful City—WTown D. My Beijing Fascination

D It enables one to share common views with others.

It is a struggle for many parents, teachers, and families to find time to fit outdoor playtime into their days. ____16____.
Look into attending a forest school.
We’ve been doing this for five months now, and it’s the best money I’ve ever spent. At this time of a year, it’s dark in the early evenings, but that shouldn’t stop you from sending kids out to play in a safe yard where they’re not at risk from cars. Do a quick after-dinner play, or take them for a nightly pre-bedtime walk if you’re in a busy urban setting.
Older kids can get a part-time job that gets them outside.

Spend time with your kids outdoors.

第二节 (满分25分)
1. 续写词数应为150词左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Instead of burying myself in my phone, I focused on something else: my surroundings.
