根据第二段中“Our committed trainers will take you through step by step instructions in this 5 day workshop to guide you in building your own bike. This workshop will not only provide a satisfying hands on experience but will also expand your knowledge of bike parts, how they work and how to maintain them.(我们敬业的教练将在这个为期5天的工坊里为您提供逐步指导,引导您打造自己的自行车。这个工坊不仅会提供令人满意的实践体验,还会拓展您对自行车部件、它们的工作原理以及如何保养它们的知识)”可知,参与者在工坊中可以获得制造自行车的专门知识。故选B项。
【2题详解】
细节理解题。根据文中“Course Fees: $500 per participant (课程费用:每位学员500美元)”以及第二张图表中“10% Early Bird Discount For Sign ups Before 1 April (4月1日前报名可享9折优惠)”和“*Membership entitles you to an additional cash discount of $30(*会员资格使您享有30美元的额外现金折扣)”可知,课程费用每人500美元,4月1日前报名有10%的早鸟折扣,会员还有额外30美元的现金折扣。 故选A项。
根据最后一段中“To promote the joy of cycling and serve as a platform where cyclists can set fitness goals, achieve them, and be rewarded for their efforts, we hope to connect cyclists and inspire them to share their experiences with our year long events.(为了推广骑行的乐趣,成为一个让骑行者可以设定健身目标、实现目标并因努力而获得奖励的平台,我们希望通过全年的活动将骑行者联系起来,并激励他们分享自己的经验)”可知,Urban Bike Shop的长期目标是为骑行者创建一个互动网络。故选C项。
B
It has been five years since I left my staff job and became self-employed. I remember my terror as I walked out of the office for the last time and the excitement when I sold my first piece days later. Working for yourself, setting your own hours and being responsible for your success or failure are exciting. I left my job just as summer was starting, and my first few months were as blissful as the fair days.
When winter came, an office where someone else paid for the central heating and my salary was guaranteed seemed attractive. January is tough for freelancers (自由职业者), and it was no different for me — after masses of work, I earned none. I shared my fears with some businesswomen I knew — what if the reality would be more like what I was experiencing?
Whether through choice or circumstance, the number of freelancers is rising and, if you’re just starting out, it is scary. I’ve been lucky that these women making money their own way shared key lessons about what it takes.
You can’t feel half-hearted about what you do because, at some point, you’re going to have painful days. When that happens, you have to remember why you wanted this life in the first place. Don’t quit your job for something that you think might be more interesting, quit it for something you can’t stop thinking about.
Setting up a business is tough. Rather than waiting until all is perfect, go for the moment when it feels as if momentum (势头) is with you. Look after yourself. There is no sick pay when you are self-employed. You can’t do a bad day’s work and blame it on your boss. You are the backbone of your business and you need to prioritize your health and well-being. Rest regularly and find like-minded people to support you and lift you up when things get hard.
Finally, enjoy it. Freedom is yours and, if you can make it work, there is nothing better.
4. What does the underlined word “blissful” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Pleasant. B. challenging. C. Awful. D. Boring.
5. What bothered the author when winter came?
A. The cold weather influenced her working performance.
B. She eventually realized freelancing wasn’t to her taste.
C Masses of freelancing work brought her much anxiety.
D. She couldn’t even earn enough to meet daily basics.
6. According to the author, why should we quit for a new job?
A. To escape from the current pain. B. To satisfy our temporary interests.
C. To explore where our strength lies. D. To pursue what we really desire.
7. What’s author’s probable attitude towards becoming freelancers?
A. Critical. B. Favorable. C. Cautious. D. Unclear.
A 5. D 6. D 7. B
根据第一段的“It has been five years since I left my staff job and became self-employed. I remember my terror as I walked out of the office for the last time and the excitement when I sold my first piece days later. Working for yourself, setting your own hours and being responsible for your success or failure are exciting. I left my job just as summer was starting, and my first few months were as blissful as the fair days.(自从我离开我的员工工作成为个体户已经五年了。我还记得最后一次走出办公室时的恐惧,以及几天后卖出第一件作品时的兴奋。为自己工作,设定自己的时间,对自己的成功或失败负责,这些都是令人兴奋的。夏天刚开始,我就离开了我的工作,我的头几个月就像晴天一样blissful。)”可知,作者做自由职业者的初始几个月是很顺利的,因此心情很愉快。blissful意为“快乐的,愉悦的”,与Pleasant意思一致。故选A。
根据第二段的“When winter came, an office where someone else paid for the central heating and my salary was guaranteed seemed attractive. January is tough for freelancers, and it was no different for me — after masses of work, I earned none.(当冬天来临的时候,一间由别人支付中央供暖费用并保证我的工资的办公室似乎很有吸引力。一月对于自由职业者来说是艰难的,对我来说也一样——在做了大量的工作之后,我一无所获。)”可知,作者在1月的冬天遭遇了挫折,做了大量的工作之后一无所获,甚至挣不到足够的钱来维持供暖这样的日常基本生活开支。故选D。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段的“Don’t quit your job for something that you think might be more interesting, quit it for something you can’t stop thinking about.(不要因为你认为可能更有趣的事情而辞职,要因为你无法停止思考的事情而辞职。)”
Freedom is yours and, if you can make it work, there is nothing better.(最后,享受它。自由是你的,如果你能让它发挥作用,那就再好不过了。)”可知,作者对从事自由职业持支持态度。故选B。
C
The male western tanager (唐纳雀) looks like a little flame, while females are less showy, a dusty yellow. In the spring, they prepare to move thousands of miles to the Mountain West of Central America, flying through grasslands, deserts, and occasionally, suburban yards.
To fuel them on their lengthy journey, western tanagers fill up on insects and berries. But as global climate change causes spring to start earlier, birds such as western tanagers are arriving at their destination after what’s known as “green-up”, when flowers begin blooming and insects emerge. According to a study published in early March in the journal PNAS, this kind of timing mismatch between migrants (迁移动物) and their food sources, which is happening across North America, could have serious consequences for migratory birds’ survival. “In discussing climate change, we often focus on warming,” says Scott Loss, a co-author of the study. “But the length and timing of seasons — like when winter ends and spring begins — are some of the most dramatic effects of climate change.”
Loss and his colleagues used satellite imagery from 2002 to 2021 to calculate the average start of spring green-up along the typical migration routes of 150 North American bird species, then compared that timing with the current green-up. They found that spring is indeed beginning earlier along birds’ migration routes. “By contrary, previous studies have mainly focused on songbirds in Eastern North America,” says Morgan Tingley, an ornithologist at UCLA, “but this new investigation shows that bird species in the West and at different levels of the food web might be just as vulnerable (脆弱的).”
“Part of it is knowing which species are vulnerable to various threats,” Loss says. “This adds to the knowledge about vulnerability of a wide range of bird species.” And he hopes that the information will serve to highlight the urgent need to lower greenhouse-gas emissions as fast as possible. “It’s really important, if we can’t address climate change immediately, to try to stop habitat loss as much as we can.”
8. What may pose a direct threat to western tanagers’ survival?
A. Global warming. B. The duration of changing seasons.
C. Loss of habitats due to human activities. D. Decreased access to foods during migration.
9. What is unique about the new study on birds like western tanagers?
A. It covers a wider geographic range. B. It reveals the decline in bird populations.
C. It centers on the adaptation of bird species. D. It ensures the existence of a timing mismatch.
10. What does Loss suggest we do to safeguard migratory birds?
A. Lessen the effects of climate change. B. Preserve ecosystems for bird species.
C. Address emissions and habitat loss. D. Expand researches on threats to birds.
11. Where is the text most likely from?
A. A scientific journal. B. A bird-watching guidebook.
C. A website about climate change. D. A magazine about wildlife conservation.
D 9. A 10. C 11. A
由第二段中“To fuel them on their lengthy journey, western tanagers fill up on insects and berries. But as global climate change causes spring to start earlier, birds such as western tanagers are arriving at their destination after what’s known as “green-up”, when flowers begin blooming and insects emerge.
由第三段中的““By contrary, previous studies have mainly focused on songbirds in Eastern North America,” says Morgan Tingley, an ornithologist at UCLA, “but this new investigation shows that bird species in the West and at different levels of the food web might be just as vulnerable (脆弱的).” 故选A项。
由最后一段“And he hopes that the information will serve to highlight the urgent need to lower greenhouse-gas emissions as fast as possible. “It’s really important, if we can’t address climate change immediately, to try to stop habitat loss as much as we can.” (他希望这些信息将有助于强调尽快降低温室气体排放的迫切需要。“如果我们不能立即解决气候变化问题,那么尽我们所能阻止栖息地的丧失是非常重要的。”)”可知,作者期望能够尽快减少温室气体的排放,尽可能地阻止栖息地的丧失。故选C项。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是由第二段中的“To fuel them on their lengthy journey, western tanagers fill up on insects and berries. But as global climate change causes spring to start earlier, birds such as western tanagers are arriving at their destination after what’s known as “green-up”, when flowers begin blooming and insects emerge. D
Maybe you’ve dreamed of rising quickly like a bird since childhood, or you’ve recently started revisiting a particular place or time while asleep. If so, you are not alone. It seems like the same dreams keep following us.
Recurring (反复发生) dreams are a common phenomenon. Sometimes they’re nearly identical each time they occur, but they may also have recurring themes, locations or characters set against different backgrounds. This change sets them apart from nightmares (梦魇) caused by PTSD, a psychological condition in which people relive specific memories from their waking life with far less variation while asleep.
Recent studies have justified the long-held idea that recurring dreams are often — but not always — bad ones. The reasons why we might have a greater tendency for negative dreams are not fully understood, but Michael Schredl, a researcher from Germany, says dreams typically overstate something in our waking life — even a small feeling or minor situation we feel powerless to change. “In the dream, it becomes a much bigger emotion, although the connection isn’t always straightforward,” he explains.
Psychology and neuroscience offer additional clues. For example we are subject to what’s known as negativity prejudice: a tendency to focus more upon unpleasant thoughts, emotions or social interactions than on positive ones. This behavior is rooted in our subconscious (潜意识) need to resolve negative situations that threaten our survival. Negativity bias may be worsened in sleep because our dreaming brain holds back the areas associated with logic and activates parts associated with emotion.
Nirit Soffer-Dudek, a consciousness researcher at Ben-Gurion University in Israel, recommends developing good “sleep hygiene (卫生)”. By setting a consistent sleep schedule, limiting screen use and avoiding caffeine or alcohol before bed, “you’re less likely to fall asleep while still in a heightened emotional state,” she says. “The best advice I can give is to try to guarantee strong boundaries between your waking time and sleep to avoid bringing anxiety into your dreams.”
12. How do recurring dreams differ from PTSD-related nightmares?
A. Recurring dreams have more variation. B. Recurring dreams are less vivid.
C. PTSD-related nightmares have more themes. D. PTSD-related nightmares are less frequent.
13. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. The significance of subconscious behavior. B. The limitation of emotional activation.
C. The possible reason for negative dreams. D. The solution to worsened sleep.
14. What does Nirit suggest people do?
A. Stop the use of electronic devices. B. Extend waking-and-sleeping boundaries.
C. Keep a regular sleep routine. D. Consume some alcohol before bed.
15. What is a suitable title for this text?
A. Battle against poor sleep B. Take a look at recurring dreams
C. Cope with negativity prejudice D. Keep an eye on mental health
A 13. C 14. C 15. B
根据第二段中的“Recurring (反复发生) dreams are a common phenomenon. (反复出现的梦境是一种常见现象。有时它们每次出现都几乎相同,但也可能在不同的背景下有反复出现的主题、地点或人物。这种变化将它们与创伤后应激障碍(PTSD)引发的噩梦区分开来,创伤后应激障碍是一种心理状况,患者在睡眠中会重温清醒生活中的特定记忆,且变化少得多)”可知,反复出现的梦境因“有更多变化”而不同于PTSD相关噩梦,后者“变化少得多”。故选A项。
根据第四段“Psychology and neuroscience offer additional clues. For example, we are subject to what’s known as negativity prejudice: a tendency to focus more upon unpleasant thoughts, emotions or social interactions than on positive ones. This behavior is rooted in our subconscious (潜意识) need to resolve negative situations that threaten our survival. Negativity bias may be worsened in sleep because our dreaming brain holds back the areas associated with logic and activates parts associated with emotion.
根据最后一段中的“Nirit Soffer-Dudek, a consciousness researcher at Ben-Gurion University in Israel, recommends developing good “sleep hygiene (卫生)”.
A majority of the people do not read the classics. Their reasons begin with the language being too difficult and end with the storyline too distant to the present context. Love for classics is obviously not at first sight. ___16___ We begin as acquaintances (泛泛之交) and eventually become close friends with private jokes between us. So how does one approach a classic?
Don’t be afraid to be confused.
We get it: it’s hard to power through confusion. It doesn’t feel great when a book makes you feel confused. Every reader has to start somewhere. ___17___ Instead, be proud of yourself for trying, and get excited about all the new things you’ll learn.
Research, research, research.
___18___ Researching the author-and the time and place they were writing about-can help you situate yourself during tricky passages. The author’s experience, viewpoint, and historical context might help you make the connections you might not have otherwise.
Just pick the book up.
This step is self-explanatory. While it’s not hard to just pick a book up, we know how difficult it can be to convince yourself to do so. ___19___ Take a deep breath, then leap onto the deck (甲板) of Melville’s Pequod or step cautiously through the gates of Castle Dracula.
Remember: there is no right answer.
There is no perfect way to read a classic text. There is no defining interpretation, no singular, exact answer. Your goal as a reader is to discover what aspects and insights are meaningful to you. Enjoy the process. ___20___ Even if your interpretation of the work isn’t quite perfect, it is still valuable!
A. It is a gradual affair.
B. Allow the book to grow with you.
C. It has some form of historical influence.
D. Before you turn to page one, do some digging.
E. Never beat yourself up for not knowing something.
F. Remind yourself that it’s a new learning opportunity.
G. Consider what confuses you, read with intention, and think critically.

“be expected to do sth.” 为固定搭配,且the northern branch与complete之间是被动关系,所以用不定式的被动形式to be completed,表示“预计被完成”。故填to be completed。
故填where。
根据空后“the main buildings gradually taking shape.” 故填with。
故填an。
故填What。

It was a sunny Saturday morning, and Jake had just put on his sneakers when his phone buzzed. It was a message from Ryan: “Meet at the park in 15 minutes?” Jake smiled. It had been a long week of school, and he couldn’t wait to play basketball with his friends. Just as he was heading out, his mom called from the kitchen.
“Jake! Come back! I need your help with the storage room.”
“But Mom, I told Ryan I’d meet him at the park,” Jake protested.
“We talked about this. Grandma is moving in this weekend, so we need to clean out the storage room to make space for her.”
“Grandma?” Jake thought, the word feeling almost foreign on his tongue. He didn’t even know her that well — it had been years since she last visited, and now she was moving in? He couldn’t believe he had to give up his Saturday for someone he barely knew. With complaints and sighs, he kicked at the floor as he trudged down the hallway, dragging his feet like they weighed a ton.
Stepping into the storage room, his nose wrinkled in disgust. The place was a disaster. Spiderwebs drooped from every corner, and dust swirled in the sunlight like dirty smoke. Boxes teetered in unstable stacks, a rolled-up carpet with worn edges lay half-spilled across the floor, and forgotten junk crowded every inch. Jake let out a long, dramatic sigh — this job was going to take forever.
Just as he was about to give up and sneak a text to Ryan, a faded blue album tucked at the bottom of the suitcase caught his eye. Faint words were etched on its leather cover: Stories with Jake (To Be Continued…). He pulled it out and flipped it open—the pages were filled with moments of him and his grandmother. On the very first page was a photo — On the very first page was a photo: his grandmother, much younger then, cradling a tiny baby wrapped in a soft blanket. At the bottom of the photo he saw some words in careful handwriting: “Glad to meet you, baby Jake.”
Paragraph 1: As he flipped through more photos, his eyes began to mist.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: Next morning, when his grandmother stepped into her new room, Jake handed her the album.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
As he flipped through more photos, Jake’s eyes began to mist. There were pictures of him as a baby, always in his grandmother’s arms — smiling, feeding him, helping him take his first steps. He hadn’t remembered any of it, but the photos told a story of love and time shared. His anger from earlier now felt silly. Taking a deep breath, he set the album aside and got to work. He rolled up the old carpet, stacked boxes neatly, and swept the floor, stirring up clouds of dust. Spiderwebs clung to his sleeves, but he didn’t stop. The room slowly changed from a forgotten mess to a clean, welcoming space. As sunlight streamed in, Jake looked around and smiled. Maybe this wasn’t such a bad way to spend a Saturday.
Next morning, when his grandmother stepped into her new room, Jake handed her the album. She blinked in surprise, then smiled softly as she ran her fingers over the worn cover. “You found this?” she asked. Jake nodded.” I didn’t know we had so many memories.” They sat together on the edge of the bed, flipping through the pages. She laughed at some photos, explained others, and paused with misty eyes at a few. When they reached the last page, Jake grinned. “Let’s add a new one.” He grabbed his phone, held it out, and the two leaned in close. “Say cheese!” Click. A fresh photo joined the album—Jake and his grandmother, smiling side by side, ready to continue their story together.

C. Address emissions and habitat loss. D. Expand researches on threats to birds.
11. Where is the text most likely from?
A. A scientific journal. B. A bird-watching guidebook.
C. A website about climate change. D. A magazine about wildlife conservation.
