Healthy eating is important for a healthy body and mind. Both what we eat and how we eat are important!
For example, some people have fast food every week. It is easy and delicious! But it often has lots of salt, fat, and sugar. That makes us put on weight. Eating fast food like pizza and hamburgers too often may cause heart problems later. If you cook your own meals instead, you can make healthy balanced meals.
Eating three meals a day is important. But some people don’t have breakfast. Maybe they don’t feel hungry in the morning, or they are too busy to eat anything. But food gives us energy. It is easy to feel sleepy and find it hard to focus on our work or studies if we don’t eat breakfast.
Some people also eat too many sweet things. Ice cream, sweets, and chocolate are delicious, but they usually have lots of sugar. This can cause tooth problems. When you want a snack, why don’t you have some fruit instead? After all, an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
Remember: You are what you eat. Healthy eating means eating healthy food and having good eating habits.
26. What is NOT mentioned as a common problem of fast food in the text?
A. High salt content. B. High sugar content. C. Lack of vitamins. D. High fat content.
27. What might happen if people skip breakfast according to the text?
A. They will feel energetic. B. They may struggle to focus on work or studies.
C. They will lose weight quickly. D. They will want to get more sweets.
28. What does the text suggest as a healthy snack instead of sweets?
A. Pizza. B. Chocolate. C. Fruit. D. Ice cream.
29. How is the text mainly organized?
A. By listing problems and giving solutions. B. By comparing different types of food.
C. By telling a personal story. D. By explaining historical changes in diets.
30. What is the main purpose of this text?
A To criticize modern eating habits. B. To encourage people to develop healthy eating habits.
C. To compare different types of fast food. D. To share personal experiences about dieting.
D
Most Chinese parents have great hope of their children. When children are born, their parents have planned everything for them. Many children in China are unhappy. They live a planned life and are made to fulfill the dreams that their parents have planned for them.
There are two sides to parents’ hope. The hope can encourage (鼓励) children to work harder for a better life. According to some studies, whether a child will be successful or not depends largely on his or her parents’ hope. However, unrealistic (不现实的) hope can be bad to children. Every child has his or her own thoughts and feelings. Parents’ hope can take children’s freedom away. Wise parents allow their children to have some freedom. They encourage their children to do things they like to do and never judge (评判) them only by their grades.
My parents’ hope of me is to be happy, kind and healthy. They never put too much pressure (压力) on me, ★ . However, I have my own dreams. I will never give up because my parents always encourage me when I am in trouble.
In a word, I think parents’ hope is necessary. However, parents should not give their children too much pressure. Parents must make sure their hope of their children is realistic so that their children will not lose their confidence.
31. The underlined word “fulfill” in Paragraph 1 means ________.
A. realize B. fail C. control D. provide
32. Paragraph 2 is mainly about ________.
A. parents’ judgement B. different ideas about parents’ hope
C. children’s freedom D. children’s thoughts and feelings
33. Which can we put into ★ in the third paragraph?
A. so I always feel unhappy B. but I never lose hope
C. and I have a happy life D. but I thanked them greatly
34. Which of the following is true?
A. Parents’ hope is unnecessary according to the writer.
B. All parents’ hope is good for the growth of children.
C. Parents’ hope always makes children have more freedom.
D. Parents should encourage children to do what they like to do.
35. The passage is mainly written for ________.
A. friends B. parents C. children D. students

January 20, 2025, a Chinese tech company named DeepSeek made a new AI called DeepSeek-R1. This smart program can solve math problems, write code, and answer questions like top models such as Open AI’s GPT-4o, but it costs much less to build. The team spent only $5.58 million (1/70 of Open AI’s cost) and used 2,048 computer chips for two months. This shows that good ideas can beat big money.
DeepSeek-R1 learns by trying many times and getting better, like how students practice maths. Other AIs need lots of prepared examples, but R1 improves by itself. For example, in a global math test, it got 79.8% right, slightly higher than Open AI’s model. A simple version of R1 can even run on low-cost computers, helping schools and small companies.
DeepSeek-R1 is free to use and change. On its first day online, over 19,000 programmers worldwide started projects to study it. A German scientist said experiments with R1 cost $10 instead of $300 with other AIs. Even Meta (a famous U.S. tech company) top scientist said, “This kind of free AI could change the world.”
US tech companies are worried. Meta plans to spend $65 billion more on AI research. Experts say China is catching up fast. A report in Nature magazine called R1 a “big step forward”, proving that smart ideas beat expensive tools.
As a DeepSeek engineer said, “We want AI to be a friend, not something only rich people can use.” With R1, China shows the world that great things come from new ideas and hard work, not just money.
A new AI: DeepSeek-R1
Benefits
DeepSeek-R1 costs less to build ___51___ top models such as Open AI’s GPT-4o.
DeepSeek-R1 can solve math problems, write code, and answer questions ___52___ well ___53___ top models such as Open AI’s GPT-4o.

DeepSeek-R1 is free to use and change.
Achievements
On its first day online, over 19,000 programmers worldwide started projects to study DeepSeek-R1.

Dear Mario,
How’s everything going? Something has changed in my life this term.
I’m facing much more pressure in study than before. So I spend some time being used to it. Thanks to the help of teachers and classmates, my schoolwork is getting better now. Although I feel stressed at times, I choose to be a volunteer for our neighborhood, such as cleaning up the city park, visiting the old people’s home. I believe it’s a good way to not only help others, but also clear my mind and get relaxed. As for sharing housework, I think it’s every family member’s duty. That’s why I’m willing to sweep the floor and wash the dishes every day.
In a word, I’m living a wonderful life now.
Anything new about your life? Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
