(二)阅读下面短文,根据短文内容,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选择最佳选项。 B His Daily Check-In I started the second term of tenth grade on February 1, seven years ago. But the next day, my mother passed away in her sleep during the night. After we laid my mother to rest, I went back to school, but I didn't care much to be there at all. Since it was a new term, my teachers didn't know me very well. My English teacher, Mr. Goldberg, would ask the class questions and call on people to answer. When he called on me, he'd pretty much be waking me up from wherever my mind would be. I'd say, “Excuse me? What was that?” He'd ask me again, and I'd have the correct answer. One day, he asked me to meet him after class. “I don’t understand what's going on,” he said. “You always seem lost. Your mind is always some place else during class, but you know all the answers." I told him the reason I came to school every day was because my mother made me. Now that she wasn't here, I didn't really feel the need to go anymore. Then he said, "Well, just do me a favor. I want you to meet me in my office during sixth period." So I met him, just to talk. Afterward, he said, “Meet me tomorrow, same time.” This went on and on, every single day. He had me meet him before class. I would help him grade papers, and we would talk. Mr. Goldberg went around to all my classes and talked to all my teachers. He said, “If you have any problems with Maxie Jones, come to me.” The next year, he did the same thing. I met with him every day, and he talked to all my teachers about whatever was going on with me. Again, he told them, “If you've got any problem with Maxie, come and talk to me.” By the time I graduated (毕业) from high school, I had never missed a single day of school. It took me years before I realized what he had done. I graduated from high school in the top 10% of my class. But at 15 having lost my mother and not really seeing the importance of learning—I was in line to be a high school dropout. I realized that the reason I showed up to school every day was because somebody there was expecting (期望) to see me. That somebody was Mr. Goldberg. I will just remember him for the rest of my life. 24. What difficulty did Maxie meet at the beginning of the new term? A. He lost his mother. B. He didn't rest well at home. C. He had few friends at school. D. He didn’t understand the class well. 25. How did Maxie do in Mr. Goldberg's class? A. He talked a lot with other students. B. He often answered questions quickly. C. His mind was always someplace else. D. He helped Mr. Goldberg grade papers. 26. Maxie will always remember Mr. Goldberg, because________. A. Mr. Goldberg paid for his books B. Mr. Goldberg played games with him C. Mr. Goldberg helped him stay in school D. Mr. Goldberg's class is the most interesting C Do you think you have a good memory (记忆) ? It is difficult to say exactly what memory is. Even scientists who have been studying memory for many years say that they are still trying to find out what it is. We do know that memory is not just one thing stored (存储) somewhere in the brain (大脑). Memory is made up of small pieces of information stored all over the brain. The human brain is very small and light. But it needs about 20% of the oxygen (氧气) that our body takes in. We can’t think well if our brain isn’t getting enough oxygen, so always make sure there is enough oxygen in the air when you need to learn or remember something! Why do you forget things sometimes? The main reason for forgetting something is that you did not learn it well enough in the beginning. For example, if you meet some new people and right away forget their names, it is because you didn’t record (记录) the names when you heard them. No one can remember everything, but everyone can learn how to improve their memory. Here are some ways: ●When you want to remember something, tell a friend about it. This way the new information becomes more memorable. Later on, think about the conversation with your friend. It will help you remember the information. ●Don’t over-train your brain. When you’ve remembered a list of new vocabulary, stop studying. It’s better to study a lot of material (材料) for a short time than a small part of material for a lot of time! But remember: you do have to practise your new vocabulary as soon as possible! ●If you have to remember something big, break it down into smaller parts. It’s easier to remember 198756430387 if you break it into four smaller bits: 198-756-430-387. ●If you want to remember a piece of information, and you can’t, don’t get angry. Relax when you study! Try to enjoy yourself. You are learning new things every minute. You will remember better if you are happy and relaxed. In short, none of (没有一个) the ways can make your memory 100% perfect, but all of them are helpful. 27. Which of the following sentences is true according to the passage? A. We can make our memory 100% perfect. B. We can break the big information into big parts. C. We should spend a lot of time studying a small part of material. D. We’ll forget things if we don’t learn them well in the beginning. 28. According to the passage, the writer probably agrees with ________. A. sharing new information with friends B. remembering long numbers by writing C. learning at least 100 new words at a time D. getting angry when can’t remember some information 29. What does the writer mainly talk about in the passage? A. What the human brain is and where memory is stored. B. When we think well and how we remember everything. C. Why we forget something and how we improve our memory. D. What memory is made up of and who can have a good memory. D I have a question for all of us. Is all winning success? Winning is really, really fun. But I am here to share my idea: Winning does not always equal success. All around the world, we have created the win-at-all-cost culture. As a society, we honor the champion (冠军). We cheer for those people who win championships. Winning at all costs has become acceptable. We have become so focused on that end result instead of the process, and particularly when the end result is a win, usually how we got there often gets swept under the proverbial rug. We need to redefine (重新定义) success. Real success is developing champions in life for our world, win or lose. We may be able to plan our way to a win, but we can’t plan our way to success. Back to 1990, when I was first made the head coach of the UCLA Women’s Gymnastics Team, the best I could do was what other “successful” coaches had done. So, I became tough-talking and mean. I acted like a head coach whose only thought was to figure out how to win. After putting up with me for a few years, our team asked me for a team meeting. And for over two hours, they gave me examples of how my arrogance (傲慢) was hurtful. That was my time-out, and I chose to change. I realized that I needed to support our student athletes as whole human beings, not just athletes who won. It is so much easier to give orders than to actually figure out how to motivate (激励) someone to be better. And the motivation takes a really long time to take root. The key ingredient was to develop trust through patience and honesty. Let’s think about what you are talking with your parents on the car ride home. Are they focusing on the end result? Are you excited to use that time to show you are a winner? All of you care too much about the end result instead of your steps of learning. We are all coaches in some ways. We all have the responsibility to develop champions in life for our world. That is what real success looks like, and that is what we call a win-win. 30. The underlined phrase “gets swept under the proverbial rug” probably means “_________”. A. shows the result B. does some harm C. catches little attention D. decides the success 31. The writer mentions his experience as the head coach to show _________. A. it’s difficult to be a coach B. how his team won championships C. why his team asked him for a meeting D. it’s better to motivate others than to give orders 32. Which of the following is a real success in life? A. A kid who shows the medals and prizes he won to his parents. B. A player who tries to win a gold medal at the cost of his health. C. A coach who respects his members even though the team didn’t win. D. A parent who keeps asking about the grades his kid gets in the exams. 33. The writer probably agrees that _________. A. we shouldn’t plan for the end result B. winning doesn’t always mean success C. a good coach often wants his team to win D. it’ s time for us to change the way we live 第二部分 本部分共5题,共20分。根据题目要求,完成相应任务。 四、阅读表达(第34-36题每题2分,第37题4分,共10分) 阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。 If you think young Chinese are not interested in their country’s culture, a TV program has just showed you are wrong. Down the ages, both paintings and poetry (诗歌) are records of Chinese civilization (文明). But how do you make them related to the I—have—no—time smartphone and social media youth? A TV program named China in Poetry and Painting (《诗画中国》) is now airing on CCTV. Millions of young people are interested in the program because it shows the paintings and poems in a creative way. Every time, five old paintings and several poems on related themes are introduced. With each painting, a performance such as singing, dancing and wushu is staged telling the story behind it. Besides (除了) performances, digital 3D is also used to make the woods, mountains, stones and waterfalls in the paintings alive. After each performance, the program’s host (主持人), some experts and the performers sit together at the round table to enjoy the poems and the painting. The poems fit well with the painting and help people better understand it.     “Our team makes this program to help people look deeply at the Chinese poems and paintings so that they can understand the traditional culture better,” says Tian Mei, chief director of the program. 34. What are records of Chinese civilization? 35. How does the program make the paintings alive? 36. Why does Tian Mei’s team make this program? 37. I told him the reason I came to school every day was because my mother made me. B. As a society, we honor the champion (冠军 ). Back to 1990, when I was first made the head coach of the UCLAWomen’s Gymnastics Team, the best I could do was what other “successful” coaches had done. A. we shouldn’t plan for the end result B. winning doesn’t always mean success C. a good coach often wants his team to win D. it’ s time for us to change the way we live 第二部分 本部分共 5题,共 20分。根据题目要求,完成相应任务。 四、阅读表达(第 34-36题每题 2分,第 37题 4分,共 10分) 阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。 If you think young Chinese are not interested in their country’s culture, a TV program has just showed you are wrong. 试题 第 9页(共 10页) 试题 第 10页(共 10页) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 … … … … … … ○ … … … … … … 内 … … … … … … ○ … … … … … … 装 … … … … … … ○ … … … … … … 订 … … … … … … ○ … … … … … … 线 … … … … … … ○ … … … … … … … … … … … … ○ … … … … … … 外 … … … … … … ○ … … … … … … 装 … … … … … … ○ … … … … … … 订 … … … … … … ○ … … … … … … 线 … … … … … … ○ … … … … … … … 学 校 : __ __ __ __ __ __ __ 姓 名 : __ __ __ __ __ __ _班 级 : __ __ __ __ __ __ __ _考 号 : __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ Down the ages, both paintings and poetry (诗歌) are records of Chinese civilization (文明). Mr. Goldberg's class is the most interesting 【答案】24. A 25. C 26. 【答案】 27. D 28. A 29. C 【解析】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了记忆的存储位置、遗忘的原因以及提高记忆力的方法。 27. 细节理解题。根据“Why do you forget things sometimes? The main reason for forgetting something is that you did not learn it well enough in the beginning.”可知,如果一开始没有学好,我们就会忘记它。故选D。 28. 细节理解题。根据“When you want to remember something, tell a friend about it. This way the new information becomes more memorable.”可知,作者认为当你想记住某件事时,就把它告诉朋友,这样的话新信息就更容易被记住。故选A。 29. 主旨大意题。本文主要介绍了记忆的形成原理,为什么容易忘记事情以及怎样提高记忆力。故选C。 D I have a question for all of us. A. we shouldn’t plan for the end result B. winning doesn’ t always mean success C. a good coach often wants his team to win D. it’ s time for us to change the way we live 【答案】30. C 31. D 32. C 33. 37.
