It’s a hot time for Chinese language learning across the world, not only because of China’s higher status (地位) in the global community but also because of the increasing economic and cultural connections between China and other countries. As one of the latest countries to welcome Chinese language lecturers, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) plans to open Chinese language courses in 200 public primary and secondary schools; experienced Chinese teachers are eagerly needed.
Other Chinese courses opening across world show the increasing demand for Chinese-speaking talent. Russia included Mandarin (普通话) as an elective foreign language in the country’s college entrance exam. Following English, German, French, and Spanish, Mandarin has become the fifth elective test item for the exam, according to Sergey Kravtsov, Deputy Minister of Russia’s Ministry of Education and Science.
Spain, for example, has more than 40,000 people learning Chinese; last year some 8,000 took the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) exam, ranking first among the member states of the European Union, according to Xinhua News Agency.
In the US, learning Chinese has been thriving for a number of years and is now a popular choice for American children, especially those who born in elite (精英) families. The children are exposed to the language at an early age as their parents believe mastering Chinese will help them build successful international careers.

B. Many countries depend on China to develop.
C. Many countries want to adopt China’s culture.

When people think about improving their physical fitness, they often neglect (忽视) balance. Good balance is a necessary part of being physically fit and key to living a long life, according to research. It’s important for everyone, no matter your age.
Older adults are most affected by poor balance. Falls are the leading cause of injury and death for those 65 and older, with nearly 30% in this age group reporting at least one fall in 2018, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But younger adults frequently fall down, too.
Forty-eight percent of young adults reported falling at least once during one 16-week study. The falls most commonly happened during sports activities, with women in the study reporting more falls and fall-related injuries than men.
Falls within the previous two years were reported by 18% of young adults (ages 20 to 45) in another study published in the journal BMC Public Health. That figure (数据) compared with 21% of middle-aged adults (46 to 65) reporting falls and 35% of those over 65. While falls among young adults were often connected with sports, falls by the middle-aged group were typically related to health problems and physical changes.
Many factors (因素) can affect your balance outside of age, such as vision changes, brain injuries, overweight and a general lack of physical fitness. Even if you have no risk factors, simply neglecting to work regularly on your balance will result in increased instability (不稳定性).
“Our body is conditioned to lose what we don’t regularly use and practice, and balance is no different,” said Susan Baxter.
12. What role does a good balance play in our lives?
A. It helps us live a healthy and long life.
B. It enables us to build a perfect shape.
C. It protects us from getting seriously sick.
D. It has the power to make us look young.
13. How does the author show the research results?
A. By having a discussion. B. By following the time order.
C. By raising questions. D. By giving a list of figures.
14. In which situation are young adults likely to fall down?
A. When a health problem comes up. B. When working regularly.
C. When a physical change appears. D. When joining in a sport.
15. What can we learn from what Susan Baxter said?
A. We’ll lose our balance if we don’t practise it often.
B. Our body is used to working in its own way.
C. We should manage our body properly.
D. We are naturally born with balance.

Then after they got ready, they set off. It was a beautiful day and the boys started climbing the mountain happily after they got to the foot of it. The mountain was very tall and it was tiring for the young boys to climb it, but everyone was passionate about the activity and no one complained.
When it got dark, they finally reached the top and they all shouted happily. Then Jim started counting. To his shock, there was one missing.
“Where is Mike?” he asked.
All the boys looked around and they didn't see Mike around They got concerned.
“Mike, Mike…” they started shouting. But there was no response. Worrying that Mike might be in danger, the boys knew they must return to find him. However after climbing the mountain for hours, they were all tired, so Jim asked the other boys to camp there and then he went down the mountain to find Mike alone.
Jim left the boys and started going down the mountain with a flashlight. Though tired, hungry and cold, he still didn't give up because of worrying about his friend. But things got even worse when his flashlight suddenly stopped working,

【答案】12. A 13. D 14. D 15. A

(在一项为期16周的研究中,48%的年轻人报告至少跌倒过一次。)”和第四段中“Falls within the previous two years were reported by 18% of young adults (ages 20 to 45) in another study published in the journal BMC Public Health. That figure (数据) compared with 21% of middle-aged adults (46 to 65) reporting falls and 35% of those over 65. Jim loved adventures when he was a little boy. He was also a strong-minded boy who didn't give up easily.
One day when he was thirteen years old, he asked some friends to climb a mountain with him. The boys agreed and they even decided to camp at the top of the mountain.
All the boys looked around and they didn't see Mike around. They got concerned.
But things got even worse when his flashlight suddenly stopped working,
Jim almost became desperate. Out of despair, he started calling his friend’s name. To his joy, finally, he got a weak response. Mike was just nearby.
Jim felt his way in the darkness and walked toward his friend. Luckily the moon got out of the cloud and Jim could finally see again. He found his friend who had been trapped in a hole for hours. Jim managed to pull Mike up from the hole, and Mike was finally safe. However, Jim was so tired that he fell and rolled down a slope and lost consciousness.

【答案】Paragraph 1:
When Jim finally woke up, he found himself in hospital. He was severely injured and couldn’t even feel his legs. He was told that he might not be able to walk again. Hearing that, Jim became desperate, with tears rolling down his face. He loved adventures and now he even couldn’t walk. His parents and friends were all there with him, feeling sad and regretful. But they all encouraged him, saying that they’d do all that they could to help him walk again.
Paragraph 2:
Looking at those worried faces of his parents and friends, Jim made a decision. He decided to stand on his feet again no matter how hard it could be. Jim left the hospital in a month. He had to use a wheelchair of course, but Jim remained positive. He started training himself to stand on his feet later with the help of his friends. The process was really painful and hard, but he never gave up. One year later, Jim finally made it. Now he can have adventures with his friends again!
