Luohu’s Futuristic Vertiport: Pioneering Urban Air Mobility in Shenzhen
Covering close to 170,000m², Luohu Sports and Leisure Park in Shenzhen has everything you would expect of a facility of its size and nature: jogging tracks, bicycle parking spaces, outdoor fitness equipment, ecological grasslands, etc. However, January 2025 saw it add something altogether more unexpected to its long list of attractions — a vertiport.
The industry player behind this futuristic development is Guangzhou-headquartered EHang Holdings. The new building is the world’s first EH216-S take-off and landing site, and features a fully-automated vertical lift vertiport. EH216-S is an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed for passenger transport and other applications within urban environments.
Designed by EHang, the 753m² facility, also known as the Luohu UAM (urban air mobility) Exhibition (Experience) Center, features an automated three-dimensional vertical lift vertiport. This reduces labor costs and optimizes space usage through its automated operations.
Luohu is a dynamic Shenzhen district, known for tall buildings and huge shopping malls, the latter packed with a mixture of local fashion and high-end international brands. Its administration is looking to the future, with its heart very much set on a transport infrastructure that meets sustainability standards while reducing traffic on its crowded roads.
The Luohu District High-Quality Low-Altitude Infrastructure Development Plan (2024–2026) outlines a comprehensive approach to developing low-altitude take-off and landing infrastructure across the district. The plan aims to build 100 take-off and landing sites by 2026, including 32 take-off and landing facilities for passenger-carrying aircraft.
The low-altitude economy is a strategic focus for Luohu District. As Luohu District’s first smart UAM operation center, EHang’s vertiport is expected to provide a solid foundation for the commercial operations of the district’s low-altitude economy, and to operate as a new focus for cultural and tourism initiatives.
The Luohu UAM Exhibition (Experience) Center is located near several popular visitor attractions, among them Wutong Mountain, the highest peak in Shenzhen, and Donghu Park, both popular with visitors looking for more active holidays. According to EHang, this makes it an ideal location for developing low-altitude sightseeing tourism.

Poetry on Prescription
For those who have forgotten how to switch off and reconnect with themselves, Deborah Alma may have just what the doctor ordered. Deborah is the founder of the Poetry Pharmacy, located in an old ironworks in the heart of Shropshire. This bookshop aims to ease worry with words, allowing visitors to book poetry consultations for bespoke (定制的) advice or pick up a quick fix off the shelves.
Last year, a second Poetry Pharmacy opened its doors inside LUSH on London’s Oxford Street, seeking to bring a little calm to the capital. Even before she had two successful “practices” under her belt, Deborah was very aware of the power of poetry. She used the medium as a tool to help those living with dementia (痴呆), working in care homes for years.
“I would sit with people and talk to them, listen to them,” she says. “Often, because of the heart and emotional state, we would read poetry. I would see a change happen as they were taken to a magical place.”
“Perhaps the ambulance triggered (触发) that feeling in me, too,” she adds. “The ambulance” was Deborah’s first exploration into poetic medicine. After spotting a special vehicle on eBay, an idea came to her — she would bring poetry prescriptions (处方) directly to people. And so, the “Emergency Poet” was born — Deborah travelled the country in her 1950s ambulance, offering consultations and guidance to those in need.
After close to a decade of mobile medicine, Deborah parked up her practice for the stability of a physical store in Shropshire. With its original iron shelving and warm wooden counter, Deborah knew that the Bishop’s Castle location was the perfect place to set up shop. This would be the world’s first walk-in poetry pharmacy.
Since opening its doors in 2019, the Pharmacy has gone from strength to strength, being awarded Regional Independent Bookshop of the Year from the British Book Awards in 2024.
The Pharmacy is a warm and welcoming destination, described by one online reviewer as “a peaceful place to rest and dream.” “It’s really important not to ask people about their problems,” Deborah says. “We ask about that person’s reading habits, how they relax, who they are in their best state. It should be a pleasure to answer these questions.”
