教学过程
Teacher: Good day, dear students! Welcome to today's English class. We're still in Unit 2, and this time we're going to focus on the Listening and Talking part. As we all know, travelling is an exciting and enriching experience. And in this class, we'll improve our listening and speaking skills by discussing various aspects of travelling. So, are you all set to embark on this language journey?
Students: Yes!
Teacher: Great! First, let's start with a little warm - up. I want you to close your eyes and imagine that you have a chance to travel anywhere in the world. Where would you go? What would you see? And how would you feel? [Pauses for a moment] Now, open your eyes and turn to your partner. Share your imaginary travel destination with each other. Use simple sentences like "I would like to go to... because...". [Students start to talk to their partners]
Teacher: Okay, time's up. Can anyone share their dream travel destination with the whole class? [Points to a student]
Student 1: I would like to go to Japan because I'm really interested in its traditional culture, like cherry blossoms and ancient temples. Also, I want to try Japanese cuisine, especially sushi.
Teacher: That sounds wonderful! Japan is indeed a fascinating country with a rich blend of tradition and modernity. [Points to another student] How about you?
Student 2: I want to travel to Australia. I dream of seeing the Great Barrier Reef. The colorful corals and diverse marine life there are so appealing. And I can also visit Sydney Opera House, which is a world - famous architectural masterpiece.
Teacher: Fantastic! Australia has so much to offer, from its unique natural wonders to its iconic landmarks. Now, let's move on to our listening part. In this listening, you'll hear two friends, Lily and Tom, talking about their travel plans. Before we start, let's look at the questions on the screen. [Shows the questions on the screen]
1. Where are Lily and Tom planning to go?
0. How are they going to get there?
0. What are they going to do at their destination?
Teacher: Listen carefully and try to answer these questions. Now, let's play the recording. [Plays the recording]
[Recording script:
Lily: Hi, Tom! I'm so excited. Summer vacation is coming soon.
Tom: Yeah, me too. Have you got any plans?
Lily: Well, I'm thinking of going to Thailand.
Tom: Thailand? That sounds great! How are we going there?
Lily: By plane, of course. It's much faster.
Tom: True. So, what are we going to do in Thailand?
Lily: First, we'll go to Bangkok. We can visit the Grand Palace. It's really magnificent with its beautiful architecture and precious treasures.
Tom: Awesome! What else?
Lily: Then we'll head to Phuket. We can enjoy the sun, sand, and sea on the beaches. And we can also try some water sports like snorkeling.
Tom: That's going to be so much fun!]
Teacher: Okay, the recording has finished. Let's answer the questions one by one. Who can tell me where Lily and Tom are planning to go? [Points to a student]
Student 3: They are planning to go to Thailand.
Teacher: Correct! And how are they going to get there?
Student 4: By plane.
Teacher: Right! And what are they going to do at their destination?
Student 5: In Bangkok, they will visit the Grand Palace. In Phuket, they will enjoy the beaches and try water sports like snorkeling.
Teacher: Excellent! You all listened very carefully. Now, let's listen to the recording again. This time, pay attention to the words and phrases they use to talk about their travel plans. For example, "I'm thinking of...", "by plane", "visit the Grand Palace", "enjoy the sun, sand, and sea". Try to take some notes. [Plays the recording again]
Teacher: Now, let's share the words and phrases you noted down. [Students share their notes, and the teacher writes some of the key ones on the blackboard: be thinking of, by + means of transportation, visit + place, enjoy + activity]
Teacher: These are very useful expressions for talking about travel plans. Let's practice using them. I'll give you a situation. Suppose you are planning a trip to a European country. You can choose any country you like. First, tell your partner which country you are going to. Then, discuss how you will get there and what you will do there. Use the expressions we just learned. [Students start to practice in pairs]
Teacher: Okay, let's stop here. Can a pair come to the front and share your conversation with the class? [Invites a pair of students to the front]
Student A: Hi, I'm thinking of going to Italy.
Student B: Italy? That's a great choice! How are we going to get there?
Student A: By plane. It takes about ten hours from here.
Student B: Wow, that's a long flight. So, what are we going to do in Italy?
Student A: First, we'll go to Rome. We can visit the Colosseum. It's a very famous ancient amphitheater.
Student B: Sounds amazing! What else?
Student A: Then we'll go to Venice. We can take a gondola ride on the canals and enjoy the unique scenery there.
Teacher: Well done! You used the expressions very well. Now, let's move on to a more challenging listening. This time, you'll hear a travel agent talking about a special tour package. Listen carefully and fill in the blanks on your worksheet. [Distributes the worksheets and plays the recording]
[Recording script:
Good morning, everyone! I'm here to introduce you to an exciting tour package. We call it "The Mysterious Mayan Adventure". This tour will take you to the heart of Central America, to the ancient Mayan ruins.
We will start our journey in Guatemala. From there, we'll take a bus to Tikal, one of the largest and most impressive Mayan archaeological sites. You'll be able to explore the tall pyramids, temples, and palaces that were built thousands of years ago.
After that, we'll travel to Belize. In Belize, we'll visit the Xunantunich ruins. You can climb to the top of El Castillo, the main pyramid, and enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding rainforest.
The tour package includes all transportation, accommodation in comfortable hotels, and guided tours at each site. We also provide delicious local cuisine.
So, if you're interested in history, culture, and adventure, this is the tour for you!]
Teacher: Okay, the recording has ended. Let's check the answers together. [Goes through the answers on the worksheet with the students]
Teacher: Now, based on what you heard, let's have a group discussion. Suppose you are a travel agent, and your group needs to design a new travel package. You can choose any destination in the world. Decide on the places to visit, the transportation, accommodation, and activities. Then, one person from each group will present your travel package to the class. [Students form groups and start to discuss]
[After a few minutes, groups start to present]
Group 1 spokesperson: Good morning, everyone! Our travel package is called "The Enchanting Southeast Asia Tour". First, we'll start in Singapore. We'll take a flight there. In Singapore, we'll visit the Gardens by the Bay, which has amazing supertrees and beautiful gardens. We'll stay in a modern hotel near the city center.
Then, we'll take a ferry to Malaysia. In Malaysia, we'll go to Penang. We can explore the Georgetown, with its rich colonial - era architecture. We'll stay in a traditional guesthouse. We'll also have a chance to try a lot of delicious local food, like nasi lemak and satay.
Teacher: Great job! Your travel package sounds very attractive. [Listens to other groups' presentations and gives comments]
Teacher: Now, let's summarize what we've learned today. We've practiced listening to conversations and a travel agent's introduction about travel plans and tour packages. We've also learned some useful expressions for talking about travel. Remember, practice makes perfect. Try to use these expressions in your daily life when you talk about your travel ideas. For homework, I want you to write a short paragraph about a travel plan you would like to make in the future. Include where you want to go, how you will get there, and what you plan to do. You can use the expressions we learned today. Is that clear?
Students: Yes!
Teacher: Wonderful! That's all for today's class. Have a great day!
