B When I was young, my mother was very much concerned for my happiness and was always there to support me. We had healthy boundaries (界限). When my own turn came for being a mother, I was determined to do so. But as my daughter and I sat down to choose courses for the seventh grade, I felt the boundaries begin to fall. Students were allowed three electives (选修课) each term. Several of these were year-long courses—band, orchestra, yearbook and Spanish, and the rest were random (随机的) — technology education, drama, leadership and PE. I hated PE in my own school days. We read the elective options (选择) carefully and sweet relief (轻松) flooded through me. “You can sign up for band, yearbook and Spanish, and you won’t have to take PE ever,” I told her. I settled back into my chair, a weight taken off my chest. My daughter, however, frowned (皱眉). “But I’m not sure I want to take Spanish. And I want to do the leadership class...and try drama!” I broke in on her words with more practical wisdom. “You can’t pick the electives you want, though. They’re organized randomly. So you might get drama and leadership..., or you might get gym class or technology education. You might get the classes you want, and you might not. Is it worth risking having to take PE?” Finally, she chose to take the chance and signed up for band, yearbook and one period of the unknown elective. I reminded myself she was not me. Watching your child walk into the trap of middle school is worse than experiencing it yourself. Motherhood, after all, is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. I am not going into the seventh grade again. It is my daughter’s turn. She is her own person, and while she is delicate and easily hurt, she is also stronger and more confident than I was. 24. What is the function of paragraph 1? A. To present a fact. B. To provide an example. C. To introduce the topic. D. To make a comparison. 25. Why did the author feel relaxed after reading the elective options? A. Drama was her daughter’s favorite. B. Her daughter followed her advice. C. There were many year-long courses. D. PE was optional for her daughter. 26. What did the author think of her daughter’s option? A. It seemed organized. B. It was uncertain. C. It was made at random completely. D. It sounded reasonable. 27. What does the author want to say in the last paragraph? A. Motherhood is strict. B. Mothers should learn to let go. C. Children should ask for help if necessary. D. Children are too young to make a decision. C Children do not laugh for joy. Scientific studies, including my own, show that there is something much deeper than joy in a child’s laughter. I find that it is closely connected to brain and personality development: children laugh for very different reasons at different stages of development. Laughter begins soon after birth. Babies learn to laugh because they want to copy their parents’ expressions, and to receive attention and praise from them. This is the way babies learn everything at first: through copying and receiving attention and praise of adults around them. But as they grow, they learn to tell their own person from their parents and the world around them. Once they begin to behave on their own—from age 2 to 5—they begin to feel something new for the first time: certain things may seem cold, strange, or out of place, and this shocks, confuses and amazes them. This is where laughter comes in: after a moment of hesitation, they understand that what seemed frightening or unexpected is actually harmless. For instance, a child laughs when they see their father with a funny clown nose. Why? Because for a second they felt awkward: that nose is not a “live” nose. When they understand it was just dad’s joke, they calm down and laugh. They may also laugh when their older brother makes a silly face, and the process is the same. From age 5 or 6 and up, children learn to handle abstract (抽象的) ideas, meaning they can grasp and “get” jokes. Before that, they are at the earlier stage of being self-centered, which hinders their understanding of others’ reasoning. But once they overcome it, their laughter process is the same as that of adults. These three stages of laughter development are good indicators of child’s mental growth and development. 28. Why do babies laugh soon after birth? A. They are expressing their happiness. B. They are showing their personality. C. They are learning their parents’ behavior. D. They are giving praise to their parents. 29. What’s the babies’ mental process of laughing from age 2 to 5? A. They feel amazed, understand and laugh. B. They feel harmless, hesitate and laugh. C. They hesitate, feel frightened and laugh. D. They understand, feel shocked and laugh. 30. Why does the author mention the father and the brother in paragraph 4? A. To give examples. B. To provide methods. C. To make comparisons. D. To offer suggestions. 31. What does the underlined word “hinders” in paragraph 5 mean? A. Forms. B. Deepens. C. Explores. D. Prevents. D News companies are increasingly using video and images (图像) from social media to report on the happening conflict (冲突) between Israel ( 以色列) and Hamas (哈马斯). This has led some media organizations to increase their efforts to identify (辨认) false or misleading information. Reporters covering the war are limited by the government on how they can document (记录) the conflict. But they can use a flood of video and pictures published online. Therefore, reports of the war have included many images and video that appeared on social media. News content has also been recorded by satellite equipment and cameras placed around Israel and Gaza. Using this kind of content (内容) in news shows has become very common for major media companies. Wendy McMahon, president of CBS News and Stations, told The Associated Press that many people watching news reports today expect to be part of “a shared viewing experience.” This way, they can feel like they are learning what is going on right along with the reporters, McMahon said. In order to create this kind of experience, news reporters have to search through a huge online supply of images and video, which comes from services like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. Checking this material (材料), however, can be difficult. With so much material, it is easy for people or organizations to create false images and video using artificial intelligence (AI). Reuters news agency uncovered several images published online that turned out to be false. McMahon, from CBS, said the Israel-Hamas war has in many ways confirmed a big fear among news reporters: “News companies would see a flood of misinformation to an extent (程度) that was never seen before.” 32. What can we learn about the reports on the war between Israel and Hamas? A. They are free from government limits. B. They take advantage of online content. C. They document all the conflicts in detail. D. They are mainly recorded by satellite equipment. 33. What is a challenge for news reporters according to the passage? A. Editing news materials. B. Erasing fear of misinformation. C. Identifying false content. D. Creating images and video with AI. 34. Why are online video and images commonly used by media companies? A. They are easily accessible to people. B. They offer a better viewing experience. C. They record what is going on faithfully. D. They are in good supply on social media. 35. Which is the most suitable title for the text? A. How to Publish Online News B. How to Identify False Information C. How Social Media Affects News Reports D. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn’t help weeping (哭泣) sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding (责骂) from her mother. Having wandered (漫游) aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat. She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she gave a sigh (叹气) and had to leave. The seller behind the stand (摊位) noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?” “Oh, yes, but I don’t have money on me,” she replied. “That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,” said the man. “Come in.” The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, the smell so attractive. As she was eating, Lucy cried silently. “What is it?” asked the man kindly. “Nothing. Actually, I was just touched by your kindness!” said Lucy as she wiped her tears.” Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless (无情地) compared to a stranger!” Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude to her?” Lucy sat there, speechless and numb with shock; she remembered her mother’s familiar face and weathered (饱经风霜的) hands. “Why didn’t I think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel grateful. Why haven’t I thanked my mum for what she has done for me?” On the way home, Lucy made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home. 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; Paragraph 1: Approaching (临近) the doorway, Lucy was very nervous and took a deep breath. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024-2025下学年初三创新班期末考试试卷 英 语 总分150分 时间 120分钟 第一部分听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C.三个选项中选出最佳选项,并标在试卷的相应位置。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1. Della participated in the Russian reality TV show Incredible People, impressing judges in Moscow with her remarkable language skills. Besides her native Russian, Della speaks English, German, Spanish, French, Chinese and Arabic. That includes the six official United Nations languages with the addition of German. Instead of just having some simple small talks, Della is actually able to communicate in these languages. During the show she managed to answer questions based on the school curriculum in all these languages. Della’s mother started teaching her daughter English at the age of two, but as soon as she noticed that Della was interested in it, she began to let her daughter be tutored by native speakers of other languages. Language specialists were just as impressed as Della’s global audience. One language expert said such cases were rare but had happened in the past. He believed that Della would not lose her knowledge but warned at some point it could become frozen if she did not continue to use and practice it. 第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A SUMMER CAMPS @ ReCreate ReCreate summer camps are a super-fun and affordable way to spend your summer. 【答案】24. C 25. D 26. B 27. A. Forms. B. Deepens. C. Explores. D. Prevents. 【答案】28. C 29. C They document all the conflicts in detail. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文: Approaching the doorway, Lucy was very nervous and took a deep breath. Standing in front of the door, she was afraid whether her mother would forgive her for her rudeness. But when she thought of her mother’s familiar face and the noodle seller’s kind advice, she gathered her courage to knock on the door bravely. Hearing the knock, her mother rushed over to open the door. Seeing Lucy, mother stood there, rooted to the spot. Lucy was so ashamed that she didn’t know what to say, just hanging her head in shame. A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. Lucy couldn’t help crying and said “Sorry, mom, I know I have made a big mistake. I shouldn’t have quarreled with you. I shouldn’t have run away from home. Could you forgive me?” Lucy’s mother was moved, saying “Good girl, never mind, I also should make an apology to you for scolding at you angrily. I am very worried about you. ” Tears rolled down from both of their faces and they hugged each other tightly. It dawned on Lucy that love was not defined by the absence of conflict but by the courage to admit your mistake and correct it. [亮点词汇] ①take a deep breath 深呼吸 ②can’t help doing禁不住做某事 [高分句型] ①She was afraid whether her mother would forgive her for her rudeness.
