Today, the Mobile Computing Programme puts a computer into every student's hands on the opening day. Information technology is only one part of the picture, though. Bentley students also develop wellrounded skills in analytical thinking, creative problemsolving, and effective communication. Bentley College has one of the lowest facultystudent ratios of 1 to 16. Professors are accessible, devoted to excellent teaching and advising as well as pursuing research and scholarship in their field. Many have significant experience in the business world. 根据倒数第二段中的“London Bridge's Vinegar Yard will play host to the special event including performances by famous singers, and original artwork that will be a feast for the eyes.(伦敦桥的Vinegar Yard将举办特别的活动,包括著名歌手的表演,以及原创艺术品,这将是一场视觉盛宴。)”以及最后一段中的“There are impressive performances on at the moment including Frozen, Mamma Mia!, Come from Away and other musical films.(那里有令人印象深刻的表演,包括《冰雪奇缘》《妈妈咪呀!》《来自远方》等歌舞片。)” B。 B As a child, Dan Fischer loved going to the beach and riding bikes along the coastline with his father, Karl Fischer. So when his father died of pancreatic cancer, he turned to the healing power of the ocean. At the start of this year, Fischer wrote his father's name on his surfboard and “took him out into the ocean” in Newport, Rhode Island. His father's name shone in the sun on what felt like a shared adventure. Inspired, Fischer made a video and posted it on social media the same day. “If you love the ocean, or you know someone who loves the ocean, or maybe you lost someone who just loved being outdoors..., you can comment on this video with their name and a bit of their story, and I'll put their name on my board here, just like I've done with my father's name,” he said in the video. “And I'll take them out into the ocean for you.” Names poured in from thousands of strangers grieving(悲伤) for the loss of loved ones. Accordingly, the One Last Wave Project was born. The aim of the project was to exchange stories with a community of people going through the same pain. They were essentially healing together. About two months later, Fischer had received over 5,000 names and written most of them on two surfboards. The first two surfboards ran out of space—he's working on getting more. He wrote the names in neat letters on the surfboard and put a clear acrylic(丙烯酸的) coat over them so they didn't wash off. Though a lot of people have been struggling with grief, Fischer was amazed by the responses that have poured in. “If I am able to help one person or one person shares their name, that is enough for me,” he said. “But I am blown away—by not just the number of people sharing, but the depth of stories and love that they are sharing.” And he plans to take his project around the world and connect with even more people—through shared grief and the power of the ocean. ( B )24.How did Fischer share his idea with others? A.By giving a live broadcast online. B.By posting a video on the Internet. C.By going to the beach with his father. D.By writing his father's name on the surfboard. ( D )25.Why did Fischer start the One Last Wave Project? A.To memorise his father. B.To attract public attention. C.To face diseases bravely. D.To help people out of sadness. ( B )26.What does Fischer intend to do next? A.Share his experience at sea. B.Extend the project worldwide. C.Connect to more social media. D.Sail around the world with strangers. ( D )27.What can we learn from the story? A.Actions speak louder than words. B.He who laughs last laughs best. C.A good beginning makes a good ending. D.Sharing can help heal the pain. 根据第二段中的“Inspired, Fischer made a video and posted it on social media the same day.” 根据第三段中的“the One Last Wave Project was born. The aim of the project was to exchange stories with a community of people going through the same pain. They were essentially healing together.” 根据最后一段最后一句中的“And he plans to take his project around the world”可知,Fischer打算把自己的这个项目在全世界推广。故选B。 27. 根据倒数第二段中的“Names poured in from thousands of strangers grieving(悲伤) for the loss of loved ones. Accordingly, the One Last Wave Project was born. The aim of the project was to exchange stories with a community of people going through the same pain. They were essentially healing together.”和倒数第一段中的“If I am able to help one person or one person shares their name”可知,文章讲述了Fischer让失去亲人后痛苦的人分享自己的悲痛,然后帮助他们治愈悲伤的故事,这充分证实了分享有助于治愈悲伤。故选D。 C In 2020, the author Daniel Pink launched the World Regret Survey, the largest survey on the topic ever undertaken. With his research team, Pink asked more than 15,000 people in 105 countries,“How often do you look back on your life and wish you had done things differently?” Most of them said regret was at least an occasional part of their life. Roughly 21 percent said they felt regretful all the time. Only 1 percent said they never felt regretful. If you are of the“no regrets”school of life, you may think that all this regret is a recipe for unhappiness. But that isn't the case. Letting yourself be overwhelmed by regret is indeed bad for you. But going to the other extreme may be even worse. To extinguish your regrets doesn't free you from shame or sorrow but causes you to make the same mistakes again and again. To truly get over our guilt requires that we put regret in its proper place. Uncomfortable as it is, regret is an amazing cognitive feat. It requires that you go back to a past scene. Imagine that you acted differently to change it, and with that new scene in mind, arrive at a different present—and then, compare that fictional present with the one you are experiencing in reality. Not all regrets are the same, of course. Pink says they come in four basic varieties, and an instance of regret may involve just one combination. Many connection regrets overlap(部分重叠)with moral regrets, which can come about after you go against your own values. For example, you may pride yourself on being a loving person, and thus regret not living up to this image in the relationship you harmed. Moral regrets can also involve just yourself. Maybe you regret not living up to your commitment to your health when you ate a whole pizza or skipped the gym. If not analysed and managed, any variety of regret can be harmful to your wellbeing. Regret is linked to depression and anxiety, and excessive regret can adversely affect your immune system. But regret doesn't have to be put aside and ignored. ( D )28. What could be concluded from Pink's research? A. Half of the people felt regretful. B. Most people lived without regrets. C. None could live a life without regrets. D. The majority of the people had regrets. ( B )29. What does the underlined word“extinguish”in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Admit. B. Destroy. C. Treasure. D. Encounter. ( C )30. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about? A. The harm of moral regrets. B. The importance of commitment. C. The relationship between regrets and values. D. The connection between reality and imagination. ( D )31. What might the author continue talking about? A. Types of regrets. B. Causes of regrets. C. Benefits of experiencing regrets. D. Ways of dealing with regrets. 根据第一段中的“Most of them said regret was at least an occasional part of their life. Roughly 21 percent said they felt regretful all the time.Only 1 percent said they never felt regretful.” 根据画线词上文“Letting yourself be overwhelmed by regret is indeed bad for you. But going to the other extreme may be even worse.” 根据第四段第一句“Many connection regrets overlap(部分重叠) with moral regrets, which can come about after you go against your own values.” 根据最后一段最后一句“But regret doesn't have to be put aside and ignored.(但遗憾并不一定要被置之不理。)” D。 D ListenandRepeat Singing Method Benefits Foreign Language Learning Have you ever found yourself in this situation: You hear a song you used to sing when you were a child—a bit of nostalgia(怀旧) or “blast from the past”, as we say. But it is not a distant childhood memory. The words come back to you as clearly as when you sang them all those years ago. Researchers at the University of Edinburgh studied the relationship between music and remembering a foreign language. They found that remembering words in a song was the best way to remember even one of the most difficult languages. Here is what they did. Researchers took 60 adults and randomly divided them into three groups of 20. Then they gave the groups three different types of “listenandrepeat” learning conditions. Researchers had one group simply speak the words. They had the second group speak the words to a rhythm, or beat. And they asked the third group to sing the words. All three groups studied words from the Hungarian language for 15minutes. Then they took part in a series of language tests to see what they remembered. Why Hungarian, you may ask? Researchers said they chose Hungarian because not many people know the language. It does not share any roots with Germanic or Romance languages, such as Italian or Spanish. After the tests were over, the singers came out on top. The people who learned these new Hungarian words by singing them showed a higher overall performance. They did the best in four out of five of the tests. They also performed two times better than those who simply learned the words by speaking them. Dr.Katie Overy says singing could lead to new ways to learn a foreign language. The brain likes to remember things when they are contained in a catchy or memorable tune. Dr.Ludke said the findings could help those who struggle to learn foreign languages. On the University of Edinburgh's website Dr.Ludke writes, “This study provides the first experimental evidence that a listenandrepeat singing method can support foreign language learning, and opens the door for future research in this area.” ( B )32. What can we learn according to the research? A. The findings can help all foreign language learners learn better. B. The group singing the words can generally remember the words best. C. The 60 adults were divided into three groups according to their ages. D. Researchers studied the relationship between music and remembering languages. ( C )33. Why was Hungarian used in the experiment? A. Because Hungarian is easy to learn. B. Because researchers are fluent in Hungarian. C. Because Hungarian is unknown to many people. D. Because Hungarian is rooted in the Germanic language. ( B )34. What can we infer from the passage? A. Hungarian is very popular in the UK. B. Foreign language teachers can use music to help with their teaching. C. People without music talent can never learn foreign languages well. D. The listenandrepeat singing method is the best way to learn a foreign language. ( B )35. What's the author's purpose in writing the passage? A. To compare different language learning methods. B. To introduce an experimental result. C. To call on people to do future research. D. To help those who struggle to learn foreign languages. 根据倒数第三段中的“The people who learned these new Hungarian words by singing them showed a higher overall performance. They did the best in four out of five of the tests.(通过唱歌学习这些匈牙利新词的人表现出了更高的整体表现。他们在五次测试中有四次表现最好。)”可知,唱单词的那一组人总体而言记单词记得最好。故选B。 33. C 细节理解题。根据倒数第三段中的“Why Hungarian, you may ask? Researchers said they chose Hungarian because not many people know the language.(你可能会问,为什么是匈牙利语?研究人员表示,他们之所以选择匈牙利语,是因为知道这种语言的人不多。)”可知,实验选择匈牙利语的原因是很多人都不懂这门语言。故选C。 34. B 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“This study provides the first experimental evidence that a listenandrepeat singing method can support foreign language learning, and opens the door for future research in this area.(这项研究提供了第一个实验证据,证明听复唱方法可以支持外语学习,并为该领域的未来研究打开了大门。)” 根据第二段“Researchers at the University of Edinburgh studied the relationship between music and remembering a foreign language. They found that remembering words in a song was the best way to remember even one of the most difficult languages.(爱丁堡大学的研究人员研究了音乐和记忆外语之间的关系。他们发现,即使是最难的语言之一,记住歌曲中的单词也是最好的方法。)”、倒数第二段“Dr.Katie Overy says singing could lead to new ways to learn a foreign language. The brain likes to remember things when they are contained in a catchy or memorable tune.(凯蒂·奥弗里博士说,唱歌可以带来学习外语的新方法。当事物包含在朗朗上口或令人难忘的曲调中时,大脑喜欢记住它们。)”以及最后一段中的“This study provides the first experimental evidence that a listenandrepeat singing method can support foreign language learning, and opens the door for future research in this area.(这项研究提供了第一个实验证据,证明听复唱方法可以支持外语学习,并为该领域的未来研究打开了大门。)” Boost Your Memory When trying to memorise new material, it's easy to assume that the more work you put in, the better you will perform.36.__D__ Just turn off the lights, sit back, and enjoy 10-15 minutes of quiet rest, and you'll find that your memory is far better than if you had attempted to use that moment more productively. Although it's known that we should pace our studies, new research suggests that we should aim for “minimal distraction” during these breaks. 37.__E__ You really need to give your brain the chance for a complete recharge with no distraction. The memoryboosting benefits of undisturbed rest were documented in 1900. In one experiment, the researcher first asked the participants to learn a list of syllables. Following a short period, half the group was immediately given a second list to learn, while the rest were given a sixminute break before continuing. 38.__F__ The participants given the break remembered nearly 50 percent, compared to an average of 28 percent for the other group. In the early 2000s, two other researchers led several followup studies. In healthy participants, they have found that short periods of rest can also improve our memory of places. More crucially, this advantage stays a week after the original learning task and it seems to benefit young and old people alike. 39.__G__ The exact mechanism is still unknown. It is now accepted that once memories are initially encoded, they pass through a period of consolidation(巩固) that bonds them in longterm storage. 40.__B__ But now in the age of information, it seems that our brains do need a short break at times to function better. A. Our memory is easily distracted by new information. B. This was once thought to happen primarily during sleep. C. We tend to avoid activities contradictory to memory tasks. D. Yet doing nothing occasionally may be exactly what you need. E. So don't check your emails, or surf the web on your smartphone. F. When tested one hour later, both groups showed strikingly different patterns of recall. G. They have also found similar benefits for people in the earlier stages of Alzheimer's disease. 36. D 根据上文“When trying to memorise new material, it's easy to assume that the more work you put in, the better you will perform.(在尝试记住新材料时,人们很容易认为你投入的工作越多,你就会表现得越好。)”和下文“Just turn off the lights, sit back, and enjoy 10-15 minutes of quiet rest, and you'll find that your memory is far better than if you had attempted to use that moment more productively. (只要关灯,坐下来,享受10至15分钟的安静休息,你就会发现你的记忆力比你试图更有效地利用那一刻要好得多。)”可知, D选项“然而偶尔什么都不做也许正是你所需要的。”与上文在语义上形成转折关系,且引出下文。故选D。 37. E 根据上文“Although it's known that we should pace our studies, new research suggests that we should aim for ‘minimal distraction’ during these breaks.(尽管众所周知,我们应该调整学习的节奏,但新的研究表明,我们应该在休息期间‘尽量减少分心’。)”和下文“You really need to give your brain the chance for a complete recharge with no distraction.(你真的需要给你的大脑一个完全的且没有干扰物的充电的机会。)” 38. F 根据下文“The participants given the break remembered nearly 50 percent, compared to an average of 28 percent for the other group.(被给予休息时间的参与者记住了接近50%,而另一组平均记住了28%。)” 39. G 根据上文“In healthy participants, they have found that short periods of rest can also improve our memory of places. Yours, Li Hua 第二节(满分25分) 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 In a small town, there lived a young girl named Emily. She had a passion for table tennis and dreamed of becoming a professional player. Despite her young age, she was determined to work hard and make her dream come true. From the moment when Emily picked up a table tennis paddle, she was impressed by the sport. She spent every spare moment practising her shots focusing on her footwork and mastering different techniques. Each time she stepped on the court, she was eager to improve and pushed herself to the limit. Unluckily, Emily faced a visual impairment(缺陷)that threatened to slow her progress. She was born with a condition that affected her sight. Some people doubted her ability to play table tennis and said, “Emily, your impairment is a disadvantage. It is impossible for you to play table tennis well!” But Emily refused to let their doubts consume her. With solid determination, Emily turned her impairment into strength. She used her other heightened senses to her advantage, relying on touch and sound to anticipate her opponent's moves. While others relied on sight, she developed an incredible sense of intuition(直觉) and strategy. Emily finally excelled in table tennis, achieving incredible milestones and representing her town in many competitions. She became an advocate of the sport in her town. However, Emily decided not to settle for winning in her comfort zone but to challenge for something higher. She joined a training team guided by a worldclass coach, which brought together the world's top table tennis players. In the training team, Emily went through a series of trials. She carried out highintensity training. She needed to improve not only the batting skills but also perseverance and the sense of teamwork. Her coach often encouraged her and said, “Anyone, regardless of ability, could find success.” A few years later, Emily's efforts paid off. She got her chance. As a member of the national team, she took part in an important international competition. That was the stage for her to show her skills, and it was also the important moment for her to realise her dream. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。 One possible version: In the competition, Emily found herself facing a strong opponent,Lily.
