But it has a very different atmosphere from the big city. Established as a national monument in 1968, Biscayne National Park includes the northern part of the world-famous Florida Keys which are low-lying islands or reefs. [话题语篇提升] 7 Biscayne National Park If you enjoy water, Biscayne is the park for you. You will find the threatened, huge, gentle West Indian manatee, the less gentle American crocodile, several kinds of sea turtles and over 500 species of fish. Four ecosystems come together here, which is what makes the park so diverse. The blending ecosystems create “edge communities”. Human history Human history at Biscayne begins more than 10,000 years ago. Scientists say evidence of the area’s earliest people is mostly underwater now and learn about these people by examining the hills of shells they left behind. As the population grew, it divided into separate cultures. The groups began making pottery and created trade networks. These Native Americans are called the Tequesta. The Tequesta depended on the rich food source of the sea to survive. They were not centred on farming and had more time than other natives for art and religion. The reefs and rough waters made it difficult for early explorers, resulting in more than 50 shipwrecks. Scuba divers today can explore six of them. Exploring the park Many visitors to Biscayne National Park choose to explore underwater. Guides lead snorkelling and scuba diving trips. At Boca Chita Key, visitors can explore a lighthouse, a symbol of Biscayne National Park built in the 1930s. But visitors to Biscayne National Park probably are not there to see skyscrapers and city lights. The beauty in Biscayne is quiet waters, rustling mangroves. ( )1.What is the feature of the ecosystem in the Biscayne National Park? A.The different species of the animals. B.The mixed biological communities. C.The lowlying islands or reefs. D.The clear and warm waters. B ( )2.What can we know from the last two paragraphs? A.Human history dates back to more than 50,000 years ago. B.The Native Americans prefer farming to fishing. C.Biscayne is a paradise for the water sports enthusiasts. D.Scuba divers today are to see skyscrapers and city lights. C ( )3.Where is the text most probably taken from? A.A personal diary. B.A geography textbook. C.A travel magazine. D.A book review. 根据第二段最后两句“Four ecosystems come together here, which is what makes the park so diverse. The blending ecosystems create ’edge communities’.(四个生态系统在这里结合在一起,这使得公园如此多样化。融合的生态系统创造了 ’边缘群落’。)”可知,比斯坎国家公园的生态系统的特点是混合生物群落。故选B。 2.C 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“Many visitors to Biscayne National Park choose to explore underwater. B [2024·苏州中学检测] The world’s longest cave system is an enormous network of 420 miles of twists and turns, with limestone(石灰岩) falling from the ceilings in drops. Mammoth Cave National Park preserves this unique and historical natural wonder. Large as the limestone cave system is, park officials estimate there may be another 600 miles of cave passageways that have yet to be explored. The incredible rock formations have resulted in the park being recognised as a World Heritage Site, thanks to its extraordinary size and scientific importance—making it one of only 13 natural US sites with that title. The caves were created naturally by the process of limestone erosion(侵蚀). Rain and rivers slowly break down and shape soft limestone, which creates the vast underground network. Not only are they an amazing destination to visit, but the system also provides drinking water for roughly 40% of the US population, and they’re of historical significance too. The caves act as a time capsule that preserves over 5,000 years of human history—and the caves’ first explorers were Native Americans, who mined the upper levels of Mammoth Cave. Thanks to the cave system’s atmosphere and natural protection from any kind of human disturbance, the archaeological(考古的) sites have been left in great shape. Mammoth Cave was established as a national park thanks to strong local support. Back in the 1920s, Secretary of the Interior Hubert Work created the Southern Appalachian National Park Commission(委员会) in 1925 to survey proposed park sites, including the caves. After years of work acquiring the land for the park, as well as building roads, trails (小径), and public facilities, Mammoth Cave National Park was established on July 1, 1941. The park now receives around 2 million visitors a year, with roughly a quarter taking a tour of the caves—everything from a cultural tour to the more adventurous climbing tours on offer. The cave supports more than 130 wildlife species, such as the eyeless cavefish, which has adapted to the lightless environment by no longer growing eyes, and the cave crayfish. ( )4.What has made Mammoth Cave National Park a World Heritage Site? A.The wildlife species. B.The rock formations. C.The cave passageways. D.The scientific discovery. B ( )5.What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A.It took a lot of work to establish the park. B.Local people donated the land for the park. C.Around 2 million people visit the caves annually. D.The site of the park was decided by the secretary. ( )6.What can be the best title for the passage? A.Taking Cultural and Adventurous Tours B.Preserving a Unique and Historical Wonder C.Exploring the World’s Longest Cave System D.Establishing Mammoth Cave National Park A C 【语篇解读】本文主要介绍了猛犸洞穴国家公园的石灰岩洞穴系统的自然奇观的形成过程和历史、文化意义以及政府为开发这个国家公园、保护自然奇观做出的努力。 根据第二段中的“The incredible rock formations have resulted in the park being recognised as a World Heritage Site, thanks to its extraordinary size and scientific importance—making it one of only 13 natural US sites with that title.(由于其非凡的规模和科学重要性,令人难以置信的岩层使该公园被认定为世界遗产,使其成为美国仅有的13个拥有该称号的自然遗址之一。)” 根据最后一段中的“Back in the 1920s, Secretary of the Interior Hubert Work created… After years of work acquiring the land for the park, as well as building roads, trails (小径), and public facilities, Mammoth Cave National Park was established on July 1, 1941.(早在20世纪20年代,内政部长Hubert Work于1925年成立了南阿巴拉契亚国家公园委员会,负责调查包括洞穴在内的拟建公园地点。经过多年的努力,获得了公园的土地,并修建了道路、步道和公共设施,猛犸洞穴国家公园于1941年7月1日成立。)”可推断出,建立这个公园花了大量的工作。故选A。 [2024·南京外国语检测] Nature soothes(抚慰)our stressedout souls. We know that nature is the best prescription, and new research suggests we can gain benefits while visiting parks. 1._____The study published in International Journal of Environmental Health Research found that spending 20 minutes in a city park can make you happier, regardless of whether you use that time to exercise or not. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 D “In general,we found park visitors reported an improvement in emotional well-being(幸福感)after the park visit,” the study’s lead author, Hon K. Yuen, who is a professor of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, said in a statement.“2._____Instead, we found time spent in the park is related to improved emotional wellbeing.” For the study, 94 adults visited three city parks in Mountain Brook, Alabama, completing a questionnaire about their subjective well-being before and after their visit. 3._____ A visit of between 20 and 25 minutes showed the best results, with a roughly 64% increase in the participants’ self-reported well-being, even if they didn’t move a great deal in the park. 4._____ G A F The study group was truly small, as the study’s coauthor and another UAB professor, Gavin Jenkins, acknowledges. 5._____ The challenge facing cities is that there is increasing evidence about the value of city parks but we continue to see the decrease of these spaces. C A.Something was used to track their physical activity. B.You usually visit a small green space in your neighbourhood. C.However, its findings pointed out the importance of city parks. D.If you want to feel happier, you just need to spend 20 minutes in a park. E.The best part is that you needn’t visit a national park or go far out of your way. F.This means people can benefit from visiting a nearby park, regardless of physical ability. G.But we didn’t find levels of physical activity are linked to improved emotional well-being. 1.D 根据空后“...spending 20 minutes in a city park can make you happier, regardless of whether you use that time to excise or not(在公园里待20分钟就能让你更快乐,不管你是否利用这段时间锻炼身体)”可知,D项“If you want to feel happier, you just need to spend 20 minutes in a park.(如果你想感到更快乐,你只需要在公园里待20分钟。)” 2.G 根据空后的“Instead, we found time spent in the park is related to improved emotional well-being.”可知,相反,研究人员发现花时间在公园里与情绪改善有关;G项“But we didn’t find levels of physical activity are linked to improved emotional wellbeing.(然而,我们没有发现身体活动水平与情绪改善有关。)” 3.A 上一段提到研究人员没有发现身体活动水平与情绪改善有关,本段的研究过程应是验证身体活动水平是否和情绪有关;同时根据空后“A visit of between 20 and 25 minutes showed the best results”和“even if they didn’t move a great deal in the park”可知,20到25分钟的参观显示出最好的结果,即使他们在公园里不怎么运动,因此空处应该与检测参与者的身体活动有关,故A项“Something was used to track their physical activity.(有一些东西被用来追踪他们的身体活动。)” 故选A。 根据空前的“A visit of between 20 and 25 minutes showed the best results, with a roughly 64% increase in the participants’ self-reported well-being, even if they didn’t move a great deal in the park.” 5.C 根据空前的“The study group was truly small,as the study’s coauthor and another UAB professor, Gavin Jenkins, acknowledges.” $$
