My english learning journey as a chinese student, my biggest struggle with english is expressing polite requests in my mother tongue. Direct commands like open the window are common, but english requires different phrases for various situations. From my point of view, the gap between close friends and seniors affects word choice for equals, short requests work for others, longer questions like, could you become a demand? Last semester, I faced vocabulary chaos. Words like gas U. S, versus petrol U. K, or a subway U. S. Versus underground U. K. Confused me. When describing my apartment, I mixed up pants, U. S. And trousers, U. K. Once I had to beg a tourist for directions using wrong description. IT was embarrassing. Now I relate new words to real life for transport terms. I relate them to daily scenes imagining the subway under my apartment or filling gas for a car. This helps me connect vocabulary to context. Although chAllenges remain, understanding cultural differences improves my communication skills. My english learning journey. My First Day at senior high school
My first morning at senior high school began early, around 7:30 a.m.. I felt both excited and anxious. The school campus was huge compared to my old junior high school.
I went to the registration office to register. The formal process made me a little awkward. I saw students of every nationality – different nation backgrounds, male and female. One guy with an outgoing personality smiled at me. I hoped to make an impression.
"What if I get lost?" I worried. My new partner for science class helped me explore the building. Our first lecture was science. The teacher told us to concentrate on the experiment and take notes. I used colourful flash cards to revise key words – a useful strategy!
By 3 p.m., I was tired but happy. I felt more confident. I no longer felt annoyed or frightened. At last, I started to look forward to tomorrow. My goal is to improve my English and join an organization. I’m curious about the school company for art design – maybe I can be a designer one day!
This new style of learning impressed me deeply. At last, my fear turned into confidence.

The Exciting and Challenging World of Teenage Life
Being a teenager means facing new challenges. As a freshman at senior high school, I found the schedule confusing at first. My school offers many extra-curricular activities like the Ballet Club, Volunteer Club, and Debate Club.
I prefer helping others to just studying, so I signed up for the Volunteer Club. Actually, our club activities focus on community service: we clean up parks and work in a greenhouse. Obviously, this behaviour attracts positive attention.
My friend Lily chose differently. She loves movements and joined the Ballet Club. However, her parents worry she might become addicted to dancing. Lily argued: "Ballet teaches survival skills for youth!"
Adults sometimes don't understand our generation. My mother often recalls her content teenage life with fewer responsibilities. Although she's now a successful editor, she admits feeling confused about modern technology.
For advanced learners like me, time management is crucial. I recommend using study strategies like making flash cards. Still, we must be responsible for balancing studies and fun. What if we feel addicted to games? The solution is joining clubs!
Finally, I realized teenage life is an adventure. We learn literature, discuss social topics, and prepare to graduate as fluent English speakers. Every challenge helps us grow into experts of our own lives.

Travelling Around: Explore & Experience
Travelling around offers endless adventures! When planning a trip, say to see Windsor Castle in the UK, first apply for essential documents. You might need to apply for a visa at the embassy. Once sorted, rent a car to roam freely. Don’t forget to pack light sweaters—weather can change!
During travels, amazing sights will leave you amazed. A well - planned arrangement matters. Picking an extremely beautiful spot like Jiuzhaigou in China boosts the fun. Check diverse sources before leaving.
Take Peru: it has a narrow coast and flat Amazon areas. Once home to a powerful empire ruled by an emperor, with Machu Picchu as a key site. Spain once took control of Peru, so Spanish is official there. When reading, recognise text types like brochures.
A short flight leads to unique accommodation in Cusco. Hike ancient paths to your destination—unforgettable! The Incas built stunning architecture; stones fit other than with skill. Admire this and learn about architects. Brochures promote package tours—contact agencies to book one.
In the Amazon, discover local civilisation. Inca roads, made up of highways and paths, served soldiers and transport. Hike to experience nature. When booking, choose economy (or economic) options. Pay by credit card, mind details like check in/out. Make special requests—a room with a view, maybe?
Visit historical sights like China’s Terracotta Army. Thousands of statues from 3rd century BCE guard an emperor’s tomb—once unearthed, they draw visitors. Share comments after!
Travelling around blends beauty and culture—truly rewarding!

The Power of Sports and Fitness
As a fitness lover, I enjoy various sports like soccer and badminton. Last week, I watched a boxing event at the city stadium and invited friends to come along. However, my true passion is winter sports - I ski every January when our town hosts the Ice Festival.
My role model is Lang Ping, a volleyball legend. This athlete is a true master who set an example by never giving up. She brought honour and glory to China, winning Olympic medals and world championships. Although her team almost fell apart when key players got injured, she didn’t lose heart. Her determination teaches us: Even if you face failure, never give up!
Besides watching sports, I work out daily. I used to compare myself with slim models and tried extreme diets, cutting out sweets completely. Now I focus on being positive: Rather than starving, I do 50 push-ups daily and eat healthy now and then. This change made a difference - I feel stronger!
Remember: Whether you compete professionally or jog for fun, sports reduce stress and build character. After all, fair play matters most - never pretend to be hurt or cheat the audience. True champions win with graceful strength!

THE NIGHT THE EARTH DIDN’T SLEEP
Natural disasters like earthquakes bring great suffering. On July 28, 1976, strange signs appeared in Tangshan: well cracks, smelly gas, and anxious animals. As if nature warned of coming disaster, yet people slept.
At 3:42 a.m., a deadly quake of 7.8 magnitude struck. Brick buildings fell into ruins, roads split, and metal tracks twisted. Shocked survivors saw 90% homes destroyed. Over 75 percent of the city lay in ruins. Electricity and water stopped, leaving thousands trapped. Many faced death; others were buried under rubble. The damage was massive.
Rescue teams rushed to evacuate people. Helicopters flew in as soldiers dug survivors from shelters. Affected areas received aid while medics treated the injured. However, a second quake hit, worsening the flood risk from broken waterways.
Finally, with unified efforts, Tangshan began to breathe. Workers cleared landslide and rebuilt infrastructure. The revival taught wisdom: facing disasters—whether tornado, tsunami, or volcanic eruption—requires preparation and global cooperation to reduce harm.

Staying Safe: Facing Natural Disasters
Natural disasters, like volcano eruptions, typhoons, and hurricanes, can strike unexpectedly. When a volcano is about to erupt, scientists monitor signs. For example, before a typhoon hits, it’s wise to prepare an emergency kit. This kit should have a first - aid kit, water, and food on hand.
During a hurricane, stay calm! If indoors, move to a safe place in the open air if needed. When a disaster strikes, quick action matters. After a storm, rescue workers deliver supplies to survivors. Some people might get trapped, but if they survive, they can tap on a pipe or use a whistle to call for help.
Writing a summary of disaster events helps understand their effects. The length of a disaster’s impact varies. Waves from a tsunami can strike coasts, and strong winds can sweep away homes. It’s crucial to have supplies on hand and know safety steps. By learning about these, we can better face natural disasters and protect ourselves.

THE CHINESE WRITING SYSTEM:
CONNECTING THE PAST AND THE PRESENT
Despite many historical ups and downs, Chinese civilization continues today. A key factor is its writing system, based on ancient symbols. This system dates back to Shang Dynasty (1600-1046 BCE), when symbols were carved on animal bones and shells.
Over the years, the writing developed into many varieties due to geographical divisions. However, Emperor Qinshihuang united China (221 BCE), making the writing system a major tool to unify people. Even today, no matter what dialect Chinese speak, they communicate through writing.
Written Chinese serves as a vital means linking past and present. People read classic works from ancient times with high regard. Specific character forms evolved into calligraphy – a treasured art.
As China engages in global affairs, more students appreciate this system. From Qin Dynasty (221 BCE) to modern CE times, it remains central to Chinese identity.

My English Learning Journey
As a Chinese student, my biggest struggle with English is expressing polite requests. In my mother tongue, direct commands like "Open the window!" are common, but English requires different phrases for various situations. From my point of view, the gap between close friends and seniors affects word choice. For equals, short requests work; for others, longer questions like "Could you...?" become a demand.
Last semester, I faced vocabulary chaos. Words like gas (US) vs petrol (UK), or subway (US) vs underground (UK) confused me. When describing my apartment, I mixed up pants (US) and trousers (UK). Once, I had to beg a tourist for directions using wrong description - it was embarrassing!
Now, I relate new words to real life. For transport terms, I relate them to daily scenes: imagining a subway under my apartment, or filling gas for a car. This helps me connect vocabulary to contexts. Although challenges remain, understanding cultural differences improves my communication skills.

像 gas(美式英语,汽油)和 petrol(英式英语,汽油),subway(美式英语,地铁)和 underground(英式英语,地铁),都让我晕头转向。描述公寓时,我还弄混了 pants(美式英语,长裤)和 trousers(英式英语,长裤)。

My first day at senior high school, my first morning at senior high school began early around seven thirty AM. I felt both excited and anxious. The school campus was huge compared to my old junior high school. I went to the registration office to register. The formal process made me a little awkward. I saw students of every nationality, different nation backgrounds, male and female. One guy with an outgoing personality smiled at me. I hoped to make an impression. What if I get lost? I worried.
