Celebrating a birthday with family, friends, cake and presents are something most people

English class.

birthday was coming up,"Simpler said."They made the cake and even put a picture of a cat
on it because I'm always talking about how much I love cats.

the party and posted it online. As the weekend went on,the video became a hit as millions of

with his personality."BHS Principal Wayne Leek said the school is lucky to have Simpler as a

When people are trapped under debris (H)without access to fresh air or water, timing
is very important. In disasters such as earthquakes and floods, survivors and rescue teams often
have to deal with difficult situations without the help of communications networks.Disaster
relief technology can find survivors just in time.
When hazards get out of control, they become disasters that can turn an otherwise peaceful
location into something like a war area. While military leaders use the latest technology for
intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance(情报、监视和侦察),the same technology can
be applied to disaster relief.
Global Hawk, for example, provides views of disaster areas without putting people at
unnecessary risk. This autonomous aircraft(自主飞行器)can fly high for long hours without a
pilot. It is equipped with cameras that can "see"through clouds and bad weather, day and
night.Furthermore,Global Hawk can also provide communications support. After a big
earthquake in Haiti in 2010,Global Hawk surveilled damaged airports to find safe landing sites
for relief aircraft.Rescue workers also used videos from Global Hawk observations to compare
before and after images of the area to identify areas of need and plan clear ways to get to those
locations.
Additionally,a new aircraft called Firebird can provide similar help. It's a mid-level
aircraft in terms of altitude, which is inexpensive and flexible.Pilots can fly this aircraft and
then quickly turn it into an un-piloted aircraft, for example,in order to stay in the air longer
and to go near dangerous areas to gather information.
Rescue workers continue to use traditional tools such as listening devices, cameras and
dogs that are trained to find survivors. And over time, they're also adding new disaster relief
technology to their toolkits. With each new technology being used, lives are saved.
28.What does the underlined word "hazards"in paragraph 2 mean?

We all do our best to have popping-green lawns (that are the talk of the
homeowners association (HOA),but nature will be nature. And sometimes nature takes hold
and causes your lawn to turn yellow or brown. While a yellowing or browning lawn is generally
repairable,it could take weeks or months for your yard to return to its usual color. So,why not
paint it?
Yes,you can paint your yard but don't run out to buy a can of green paint yet. You'll
need special grass paint. It is a non-toxic pigment(无毒的颜料)that gives your browning or
yellowing grass a pop of color while you wait for its natural green to return.Because it's non-
toxic and made from natural materials,it presents no risk to insects, wild animals,or our
waterways.
The primary benefit of using grass paint is its immediate regreening effect. No matter how
well you care for your lawn, you're going to run into a handful of problems here and there.
Having the ability to bring back its color immediately eases the stress of dealing with lawn
problems. It can also help save costs.Sometimes, color problems can take months to fix,and
dealing with a browning lawn may be too much to manage for a very long period. In many
cases, homeowners will give in and pay to have sod (placed. With grass paint, you can
bring back that popping-green color while waiting for its natural color to return-all for the
cost of a bottle of grass paint.
However,if you're using grass paint all year round, there is an underlying problem you
must pay attention to.Your grass might be close to dying due to water shortage, malnutrition,
infestation(营养不良、虫害),or diseases.Continuing to put on grass paint does nothing but
cover up the problem until it turns into a big problem.

A.The cost of making grass paint.
B.The process of making grass paint.
C.The advantages of using grass paint.

D.Water shortage might be worsened.
35.Which can be a suitable title for the text?

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
"Why are we going back to the bank?"I asked my mother. The five of us-my mother,
three brothers and I-had just returned home.We mailed letters, did some shopping and got
some money from the bank.Staying in the car with my younger brothers all morning was
terrible anyway, and besides that,it was a hot day and the car's seats were old and
uncomfortable. Our little house, with the white bed covers hanging from the clothesline in the
backyard,was a welcomed sight.
As a reward for good behavior all morning,my mother had promised to take us to our
aunt's pool for an afternoon of swimming. My brothers and I had got out of the old car toward
the home when we were brought to a stop by our mother's voice."Everyone back in the car,"
she said.“We are going back to the bank.”
I had only two things on my twelve-year-old mind-lunch and swimming.Although my
aunt and uncle lived down the street,it was unusual for us to be invited over for a swim.Since
pools in this part of the country were uncommon, this was an opportunity (not to be
missed.I couldn't wait to get in the water to work on what I called my water ballet moves and
maybe build up enough courage to dive off the diving board. All we had to do was eat a quick
sandwich, put on our swimsuits and go.And now,we had to get back in the car?
Going back to the bank could take at least two hours.I asked my mother,"Can't we.go
back tomorrow? We want to go swimming."My mother replied calmly,"We are going back
to the bank."A couple of hours later,my mother parked the car in front of the bank. The
bank was a two-story building.I stayed close to my mother's side as we walked toward the
tellers'(出纳员的)windows. My mother looked from one teller to the next until she saw the
teller at the end of the long counter(柜台).
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡上的相应位置作答。

听力文稿
1. W: Come on, what are we waiting for?
M: Sorry, madam. I can’t start until all the children get on the bus.
2. W: How do you compare Tom with Jack?
M: Tom is clever while Jack is honest.
3. M: Were you here on March 5th?
W: Mm, not really. In fact, I arrived three days before that.
4. W: How many more cups should we get for the picnic?
M: Don’t we have enough by now? We really don’t need to bring any more cups.
5. M: Can I pay the money later?
W: Sorry, you can’t. You're a new patient, so the money for the first examination must be paid now.
6. W: I hear you have visited many different countries. Have you been to France?
M: Yes. Many of our classmates have been there.
W: You must be able to speak French.
M: I wish I could, but English is the only one I have ever learned to speak.
W: Have you ever tried Chinese?
M: Yes, but I give it up halfway. The Chinese words are too difficult to remember.
W: What a pity!
7. M: Good morning, Mrs. Brown. What can I do for you?
W: I’m afraid there is something wrong with my watch.
M: Well, I’d better have a look at it then. Can you leave the watch for us now to repair?
W: I suppose I have to. Do you think it might be something serious?
M: I have no idea.
W: I certainly hope not. I want to use the watch tomorrow. Do you think it will be ready by then?
M: It might be. It all depends on what the problem is. You could give me a ring at around 5:00 pm.
W: Around five. All right.
8. W: Honey, what bread is it?
M: It’s the same bread we always have.
W: I didn’t even know we had any bread. Oh my God! It has a best-before date of January 2018.
M: It was in the fridge. The best-before date doesn’t count if it is frozen.
W: I’m quite sure there is a limit.
M: No, there isn’t. I saw a show once where scientists found beef frozen in ice for millions of years. They cooked it and ate it.
W: That’s enough. I’ll go out to buy pizza.
M: You never like anything I do.
W: That’s not true. I like everything you do. You’re a kind and friendly person. But I just don’t like the taste of out-of-date bread.
9. W: Hello! I’m Judy and welcome to the country world. Tonight it’s Mickleham’s turn and I’ve been joined by Mr. Mike Chisman from the village. Mike, where is Mickleham?
M: It’s on the old London Road between Box Hill and Leatherhead. The name comes from St. Michael’s Church which is over a thousand years old.
W: How long have you been living there?
M: Thirty years. I married a woman who lives in Mickleham. She has been there for fifty years. Quite a lot of changes have taken place in recent years.
W: Has there been any building going on?
M: No, it’s not allowed.
W: I know you’re headmaster of the Mickleham School. How long have you been doing that? Where do most of the children come from?
M: Since 1995. Most of our students are from Box Hill because of the increase in the population in Box Hill.
W: I know there’s a lot of things coming up that you’d like to say.
M: Yes. There’s a flower festival at Mickleham Church on Tuesday, October 1st. And we have Marisa Robles give a concert on Wednesday, October 2nd in the church.
W: That’s wonderful.
10. M: It is a custom to shake hands when British people meet each other first. Friends also shake hands when they meet after not having seen each other for a long time. If British people meet quite often, they will bow to each other instead of shaking hands. If others offer to shake hands, it would be rude to refuse. Between persons of the same sex, it is usual for the older to put their hand out first; between persons of the opposite sex, it is the woman who first puts her hand out. If she doesn’t prefer to shake hands, she may just bow slightly. When a British man who is wearing gloves wants to shake hands with someone, he should take them off. If it is difficult for some reasons to take them off, he must say, “Excuse my gloves.” A British woman does not take off her gloves. British people also shake hands when taking part in formal situations.
