A study showed that people born in the Netherlands are some of the
tallest in the world, but the Dutch people born in 2001 are shorter than those
born in 1980.21-year-old Dutch men now are an average(平均)of 182.9 cm
tall, and women are on average 169.3 cm tall. However, men born in 2001
are on average 1 cm shorter than the men born in 1980 and women are 1.4 cm
shorter. The result of the study was from 719,000 Dutch people aged between
19 and 60.
“We became taller and taller over the last century(世纪), but since
1980 the growth(增长)has stopped,”the study said.“Immigration(移民)
and food are the reasons behind this.”
Those changes to the country are often shorter than the average Dutch
people. That is to say, they probably have shorter children. The study also
showed that height growth slowed down for those parents and grandparents
both born in the Netherlands. However, people in the Netherlands are still
the tallest in the world.

Everyone needs friends. There is one old saying: Friends are God's way
of taking care of us. But how do you find real friendship and keep it?
The Care and Keeping of Friends by American author Sally Seamans tells
young students some smart ways of finding friends.
Sally says finding friendship is just like planting a tree. You plant the
seed and take care of it to make it grow. First, you should choose a friend.
What makes a good friend? It is not because a person has money or good
looks. A good friend should be kind and patient. To make a friend, you can't
be too shy. You should make each other happy and share your lives.
But things can't always be happy. What should you do when you have a
fight with your friends? You have to talk to them. If he or she doesn't want to
talk, you could write a letter. Sally says there are three steps to be friends
again. Tell him or her how you are feeling, say what your friend has done
wrong, and explain why you did this or that.
The book also has advice on some small but important things like
celebrating your friend's success. Make sure to read it if you want to find real
friendship and keep it.

Hello, boys and girls!Do you like to make new friends at school? Yes?
ere's some of my advice.
First, don't be shy! Try to talk to all of your classmates. Smile and say,
“Hello! What's your name?”If you didn’t hear the name clearly, try,“Sorry,
can you repeat that for me,please?”Then give your name and say,"Nice to
meet you!”It's really as simple as that! It's important to get people's names
right. If you get them wrong, they might feel sad!
Second, ask questions!Ask about school, sports, and more! As you
listen, think of more questions to ask. So when your classmate stops talking,
you can jump in and ask another question! But remember, you have to be a
good listener before you can ask good questions.
Last, don't forget to share! Tell your classmates something interesting
about yourself. It can make your new friends get to know you quickly and
well! Soon enough, you'll be the best of friends!
I hope you find my advice helpful! Now go to make some new friends!

I went on a holiday with my family last Spring Festival. We
went to Sanya because it was very cold in my hometown. But in
Hainan it was warm.
We went there by plane. It was the first time for me to take
a plane. I was so excited. We stayed in a hotel near the
beautiful beach. It was not the best hotel in Sanya but clean and
tidy. We had so much delicious seafood too.
My dad and mum got up early and had a walk along the
beach. I had fun with my brother. My brother and I played with
the white soft sand. Also,we swam in the cool sea. A lot of fish
swam around us. We stayed in Sanya for a week. We had a good
time there.

三、写作
VⅡ.71.One possible version:
In our English class,we had a discussion about what we
could do to make home a happier place. We shared our ideas.
Some say it's a good idea to spend more time with family.
They believe family members should share happiness and
worries. When other family members meet problems, we can do
something to cheer them up. Home is always the first place for
us to get help and support. Others think it's necessary to
remember family's birthdays and prepare small presents. The
feeling of being loved can bring us more pleasure.
In my opinion, showing love for family is really important.
Sometimes, even the smallest thing like walking with our family
makes them happier.

I'm glad to introduce bamboo to you. In China, bamboo has

In spring, baby bamboo comes out of the earth, and we call it
sun. We can cook dishes with it. It is very delicious. In summer
and autumn, it grows taller and taller with green leaves.
However, it isn't a tree. It's hollow inside its body.
People will cut bamboo down to make furniture when it is
tall enough. People also like to draw bamboo to show its spirit
and use bamboo to represent modesty and honesty.
Yours,
Li Hua
