内容正文:
“Mom, please,” Anna asked eagerly. “Please, let me do it by myself!” She had never made cookies by herself before, but at the age of nine, she felt capable of handling many things. Her friends had been baking cupcakes for a year. Yet, it seemed her parents had little faith in her.
“Anna is going to make cookies? Alone?” her brother, Carl, asked with a laugh. “That is going to be disaster!” Carl used big words to act smarter than Anna. Having a big brother could be annoying. Admittedly, Anna always appeared awkward. But that was before she turned nine. She thought her parents should realize she would do better now.
At her words, a flash of uncertainty crossed her parents’ faces. Would they agree? Holding her breath, she had waited for what seemed like ages. Surprisingly, Mom nodded, saying, “Okay, but please be careful, and remember to take a look at the cookbook first.”
Fueled by determination, Anna raced to the kitchen. With each step, there was a sense of purpose and confidence growing within her. She had already done it with Mom a million times before. Putting the cookbook aside, she got down to baking cookies from memory, breaking eggs, dropping a cold stick of butter, adding salt and then…um…yes, mixing it well! Using a mixer was easy. She turned on the mixer at the medium speed—and whoa. Whoa. Whoa! Butter splattered(飞溅) everywhere, making the kitchen messy. Collecting herself, she turned back to the mixing bowl and started again. This time with softer butter.
Anna placed rounded spoonfuls of mixture onto the cookie pan and put it into the oven(烤炉). Within a few minutes, a fantastic smell filled the kitchen—the smell of cookie success! She was going to silence all those doubts. No more eye-rolling from her big brother. No more “You’re too young, Anna” from her parents. She believed she was grown up and mature enough to be depended on.
With a loud “ding”, the oven finished baking.
1.Anna couldn’t wait to open the oven and pulled the pan out.
2.Now she decided to have another try, carefully following the cookbook.
Anna couldn’t wait to open the oven and pulled the pan out. But to her surprise, what was on the cookies pan wasn’t the golden cookies her mother had made with her but some black things which seemed too awful to taste. She was very disappointed and confused at what was wrong. All of a sudden, the cookbook aside caught her attention, reminding her of her mother’s words “remember to take a look at the cookbook first”. She picked up the cookbook and carefully consulted to it, from which she found she didn’t follow the steps.
Now she decided to have another try, carefully following the cookbook. Different from the first try, Anna carefully measured each ingredient, ensuring precision in every step of the process. Finally, Anna placed rounded spoonfuls of mixture again onto the cookie pan and put it into the oven. Twenty minutes later and after another “ding”, Anna carefully opened the oven door, holding her breath. Whoa! Perfectly golden-brown cookies came in sight. She rushed to share her achievements with her Mom and Dad. When tasting the cookies, her parents’ eyes were filled with pride and admiration and even Carl couldn’t hide his astonishment.

Sarah’s grandma had been practicing yoga for more than 50 years. She could stand on her hands and pull her body into a ball. But Sarah thought she would never be as flexible as her grandma did. “You need patience for Yoga, Sarah.” said grandma.
Sarah’s school was holding a yoga contest. Sarah wanted to make her grandma proud. She kept practicing. Mountain pose. Standing still wasn’t that hard. She moved to her hands and knees and arched her back. Cat pose. These were easy, but the competition would be harder.
She lay on her belly and pushed up on her hands. Cobra pose. Her arms soon got tired and she sank to the floor. She turned to Grandma. “It’s hard, Grandma.” Sarah said, “How did you get to be so strong?” “Patience” Grandma smiled.
The next morning, Sarah was a frog. The pose made her thighs hurt and she wanted to stop. Then she remembered her grandma’s words. She took a deep breath and held the pose longer.
Sarah practiced a new pose every day. But first she went through the poses she had practiced the days before. She started to feel stronger. Her arms and legs stopped shaking.
The day of the yoga contest arrived. On the bus, Sarah’s stomach whirled like a summer wind. What if she couldn’t hold any poses? When the bus stopped at the gym, her heart was beating wildly.
“It is time to begin,” said their teacher. “Your first pose will be Eagle.” Sarah curled her left leg around her right leg. She bent her arms, winding one around the other. She reminded herself, Focus!
“Triangle Pose.” Sarah stood with her legs apart and arms at her sides. She slowly bent to the right. She then saw Grandma among the audience. Patience.
Camel pose. Bridge Pose. Bow pose, All went smoothly. “Your last pose is the Wheel.” Said their teacher. Sarah lay on her back with her knees bent, took a deep breath and pushed hard to raise her stomach towards the ceiling. A few more seconds and she would succeed.
1.But her arms felt soft and shaking.
2.“I didn’t know you could do all these poses.” said Grandma.

But her arms felt soft and shaking. What she was worried about came to fruition. She had stomach problems. On the bus just now her stomach was spinning like the summer wind. She did a lot of postures, immediately successful, but this time the arm weak, shaking, what to do? “I can’t give up. I can make it.” She suggested to herself. At this critical moment, she gritted her teeth and stuck to her routine. Her forehead was full of sweat. He looks like he’s in pain. Teachers and classmates came to comfort her and praise her. Her grandmother also came to the stage.
“I didn’t know you could do all these poses.” said Grandma. Grandma was happy and distressed to see Sarah. Although her grandmother coached her, she did not know that she could do all the poses, which surprised her grandmother. Grandma praised her for being brave, for not flinch in the face of the difficult moment, but overcome it with perseverance. Grandma thinks she's a good yoga kid, and she’d love to teach it. Sarah rested for a while and heard Grandma's praise again. She felt much better and her arms stopped shaking. The teacher suggested that Sarah and Grandma go back and have a good rest. Sarah was relieved to leave the gym with her grandmother by her side.

Christmas Day was coming. I was just a kid then, and my big sister told me there was no Santa Claus (圣诞老人). I fled to my Grandma because she would be straight with me. I knew Grandma always told me the truth. Grandma was at home, and I told her everything. She was ready for me. “No Santa Claus!” She shouted. “Ridiculous! Don’t believe it." That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes me mad, plain mad.
Realizing how I felt, Grandma turned to me and said sweetly, “My dear, however, you can be a Santa Claus, or a Santa’s helper. So now, put on your coat, and let’s go.”
“Go where, Grandma?” I asked. “Where” turned out to be Kerby’s General Store, the one store in town that had a little bit of just about everything. As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars. “Take this money.” she said, “and buy something for someone who needs it. I’ll wait for you in the car.” Then she turned and walked out of Kerby’s.
I was only eight years old. I’d often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself. The store seemed big and crowded, full of people competing to finish their Christmas shopping. For a few moments I just stood there, confused, holding that ten—dollar bill, wondering what to buy and who to buy it for. I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker, who was a kid with bad breath and messy hair. He sat right behind me in Mrs. Pollock’s grade—two class.
Bobby Decker didn’t have a coat. I knew that because he never went outside to have breaks during the winter. His mother always wrote a note, telling the teacher that he had a cough, but we kids knew that Bobby Decker didn’t have a cough, and that he didn’t have a coat. I would buy Bobby Decker a coat! I settled on a red one, which looked really warm, and he would like that.
“Is this a Christmas present for someone?” the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down. “Yes.”
The nice lady smiled at me, put the coat in a bag and wished me a Merry Christmas.
That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat and put it into a beautiful Christmas bag.
In the hiding place, Grandma and I waited breathlessly for Bobby Decker’s front door to open and finally it opened.

That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat and put it into a beautiful Christmas bag. She wrote “To Bobby, From Santa Claus” on it, after which she drove me over to Bobby Decker’s house, explaining I was officially one of Santa’s helpers. Grandma parked down the street from Bobby’s house, and I took a deep breath, and dashed for his front door. Seeing no other people notice us, I put the Christmas present down, pounded his doorbell and Grandma and I hid in the car.
Grandma and I waited breathlessly for Bobby Decker’s front door to open in the bush and finally it opened. Out went Bobby Decker. Seeing the coat in the bag, he looked very astonished and then called his mother to go out. After hearing them say “Thanks” to Santa Claus, I felt very proud of what I had done. At that time, I decided to be Santa’s helper forever. It was on that night that I realized the truth that he who has no Christmas in his heart will never find Christmas under a tree.

Dear Chris,
I hope this email finds you well. I want to share with you an exciting event that took place in our school yesterday - the Traditional Food Festival.
Aiming to showcase the rich diversity of Chinese cuisine, the Traditional Food Festival highlighted its cultural significance with food stands set up around the campus, each offering a different traditional dish. Not only did we try some dumplings, rice noodles, Kung Pao Chicken, but we also learned how to make dishes in cooking workshops.
Having participated in this unforgettable activity, I enjoyed mouth-watering dishes and gained a deeper understanding of Chinese cuisine. I found myself immersed in this delightful food journey.
What traditional foods are popular in your country? Do you have any favorite dishes that you would recommend? Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours,
Li Hua

Dear Tom,
Last week I went on an educational trip, Chaoshan Culture Tour, organized by our school.
The trip, aimed at helping students have a better understanding of Chaoshan Culture, involved a wide variety of activities, ranging from visiting the Chaoshan Historical Culture Expo Center and some historical and cultural sites to watching traditional folk performances like Yingge Dance and Dragon Dance. What impressed me most was that we made Hongtaoguos in person and enjoyed the “fruits” of our labours.
From this experience, I gained insight into the charm of Chaoshan Culture with growing affection for it.

In modern society, mobile phones have become an indispensable part of our lives, bringing us great convenience and rich entertainment. However, the excessive use of mobile phone apps also has a negative impact on our lives.
I often spend hours watching short videos or browsing websites, completely losing track of time that could have been spent on meaningful activities and unaware of the time slipping away.
To reclaim our time, I appeal to everyone to use apps wisely. We can try to set limits, explore alternative activities and engage in more face-to-face conversations with our families and friends. After all, time killed is time wasted and lost forever.

Dear fellow students,
Hello, everyone, it is a great honor for me to be here to give a speech on Let’s have a taste of English literature together.
That’s all. Thanks for listening!
Dear fellow students,
Hello, everyone, it is a great honor for me to be here to give a speech on Let’s have a taste of English literature together.Currently, most students in our school read little English literature. Some consider it too difficult, others don’t think it necessary. In my view, there are many benefits to read English literature. It offers us an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of English and have a taste of a different culture. Besides, it allows us to communicate with those great minds. I appeal to all of you to read more English literature and you won’t regret it!
That’s all. Thanks for listening!
Callie was a high school student. Living in a quiet and warm community with her parents, Callie was keen (热衷的) on various volunteer activities in the community, and almost no one in the community didn’t know her.
On a sunny afternoon, her favourite neighbour, Mrs. Baker, visited her.
“I need your help, Callie,” Mrs. Baker said. “Do you know the empty lot (空地) down the street?” Callie nodded, smiling. The place is a mess, covered with rubbish. “The city is letting us use the lot for a community garden,” she explained. “We need help to clean up the lot on Saturday.”
“Sure, Mrs. Baker! ” Callie said cheerfully. “I will be happy to help you!”
Mrs. Baker looked pleased and said, “Thanks, Callie. We want to get the garden planted before summer. By then, adults and children in our community will have a good place to go.”
At school the next morning, Callie’s best friend Tamara was waiting for her in their classroom. Tamara said excitedly, “My mum bought tickets to go to Fun World this Saturday. She has an extra one for you!” The girls had been waiting for months for the new amusement park to open.
Callie sighed and worried about her problem for the rest of the day.
Her mother noticed her mood when she arrived home. “Did something go wrong at school?” her mother asked.
Callie explained her problem. “What should I do, Mum?” Callie asked.
“I know you want to go with Tamara and also help Mrs. Baker. Think carefully about your choices, and you need to make your own decision. But I know you will do what is best,” her mother answered.
1.Callie spent the rest of the evening thinking about her decision
2.On Saturday, Callie met Mrs. Baker at the empty lot.
Callie spent the rest of the evening thinking about her decision. She wanted to go to Fun World, but in the end, she decided that her promise to her neighbour was more important. The next day at school, Callie apologized to Tamara and told her that she would not be able to go to Fun World. Tamara tried to understand, but Callie could tell that she was disappointed. The girls hardly spoke for the rest of the week. They kept silent with great care.
On Saturday, Callie met Mrs. Baker at the empty lot. “Hi, Callie,” her neighbour said, “thank you for helping us today.” “You’re welcome,” Callie said. Callie smiled as she walked across the lot with a large rubbish bag. “Do you need any help?” a voice behind her asked. Callie turned, surprised to see Tamara. “I want to help you. My mum said she would take us to Fun World next weekend.” With joint efforts, they finished the cleaning. Both Callie and Tamara have learnt that once a promise is made, it needs to be kept.
Dear Chris,
I’m writing to share with you the voluntary work I did in the local nursing house last weekend.
On our arrival, we were divided into groups and assigned tasks respectively. During the event, I accompanied the seniors for outdoor walks and helped them learn to use electronic devices. Also, I assisted in organizing recreational activities, such as board games and craft sessions.
Interacting with the elderly was incredibly rewarding. These activities not only allowed them to feel cared for and warm, but also gave me an opportunity to experience the joy of helping others and contributing to society.
Yours,
Li Hua
I sat down next to Sophia, but she wouldn’t look at me. Gently, I told her how her traditional dance connected us to cultural roots that modern routines often lacked. “Your courage to be different is true artistry,” I said. Her fingers slowly unclenched. Nearby, a group of performers in flashy costumes laughed loudly. Sophia flinched, then suddenly stood up. “I’ll do it,” she declared, her voice trembling yet firm. Before I could respond, she hurried to the dressing room.
I watched as Sophia moved up to the stage. The spotlight revealed her embroidered silk dress glowing like sunset. Her first movements were tentative, but as ancient music swelled, her body became fluid poetry. The audience leaned forward, captivated. When she spun like falling autumn leaves, someone gasped in awe. The final pose held breathless silence, then thunderous applause erupted. Backstage, Sophia’s eyes sparkled with tears. “They… understood,” she whispered. Ms. Lawrence nodded, “You made tradition speak to modern hearts.”

Dear Ryan,
I' m writing to tell you my ideas about using AI technology. I think using AI technology to assist in correcting English compositions is a brilliant idea.
It can significantly save your time and offer prompt feedback to us students. This enables us to get a clear understanding of our mistakes and make improvements in a timely manner. However, I also have a couple of suggestions. Firstly, while AI can provide objective evaluations, I still hope you can give some manual comments from time to time. Secondly, it would be extremely helpful if you could explain how the AI works and its limitations.
I would be delighted if you could find my suggestions are useful.I'm looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
When Dr. Gullikson was assigning project mates for his introduction to experimental psychology class, I secretly hoped he would pair me with my best friend or at least a classmate I could have some fun with. Above all, I hoped he wouldn’t assign me to work with the fiercely competitive, extremely serious fellow who always wore dark clothes and apparently had a personality to match. As fate would have it, Dr. Gullikson very deliberately matched everyone in class and announced that I would be working with the one person in class I wanted to avoid. I went up to my new lab mate and introduced myself. He looked at me as if I weren’t there. I felthe treated me as if I would hold him back and probably make him fail to get an A in the course. He wasn’t mean or abusive (恶语相向的). He just gave me the impression he could do whatever project better if he did it alone. Needless to say, I didn’t look forward to an entire term of being brushed off (冷落), but I tried to make the best of it and didn’t say anything for fear that I would make things worse.
The project required each lab team to develop a hypothesis (假说), set up an experiment to test the hypothesis, do the statistical analysis and present the findings. Whatever grade the team received would be shared by both students. When my teammate and I met to discuss our project, I was uneasy. Here was this challenging student who had a reputation for single-mindedness and good grades — the exact opposite of me. I was outmatched. I actually wanted to drop the class at one point, but stopped short because I didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of my chickening out. After long discussions, we somehow agreed to do a study on the psychological well-being of teenagers. I wasn’t sure what it meant exactly, but at least we had a topic.

We started to meet regularly to draw up our plans. Companion as I was in the project, I still had no sense of participating in the project. My teammate kept his brain occupied in developing the hypothesis, setting up an experiment to test it, and running the tests alone, leaving me just standing beside him as if I were a fool. “What a dull project it is!” I murmured to myself. However, something changed gradually, as I became aware what the tactile-kinesthetic perception of space meant. Thanks to the intense, fiercely competitive, singularly serious fellow, the whole procedure went smoothly, close to the final stage. One day in the middle of our project, I got word that he was admitted to hospital for a serious disease. Without any delay, I packed up my school bag, took all the experiment statistics and rushed to the hospital. Seeing the pale fellow wearing pure white clothes instead of the annoying dark clothes, I felt a sense of sympathy and mercy welling up in my heart. With his guidance, I finished the statistical analysis and presented the findings. It turned out to be such an amazing and persuasive study that my teammate and I did win the best grade. Now, we have been most reliable cooperative partners ever since!

Tom’s love for soccer ran deep, and he played the game with a passion that was infectious (有感染力的) to everyone around him. But there was one thing that upset him-his worn-out soccer shoes. These shoes had been passed down to him by his older brother, and they were falling apart. With his birthday drawing near, Tom secretly wished for a new pair of soccer shoes to lift his spirits so that he could have a good performance in the game. However, he was well aware of his parents’ constant struggles to make ends meet and knew that such a wish might remain a dream forever.
One sunny afternoon, Tom and his best friend, David, were at school, watching an exciting soccer match. The exciting run and shout, the determination on the athletes’ faces, and their fine equipment were enough to make anyone’s heart race. It was at this moment that Tom said about his biggest birthday wish. He took a long deep breath and said, “How I wish I could have a new pair of soccer shoes for my birthday, but I know it’s impossible.”
David, sitting beside him, couldn’t help but overhear Tom’s words. The idea of helping his best friend achieve this long-held dream began to form in his mind. After school, David ran home and couldn’t wait to share the idea with his mother.
“Mom, I really want to do this for Tom. He’s been playing with those old shoes for so long. It would mean the world to him,” David explained seriously.
His mother smiled warmly, proud of her son’s compassion (同情) . “David, it’s a wonderful idea. It’s not just about the gift; it’s about the thought and effort you’re putting into making Tom’s day special.”
As David thought about how to earn the money, his mother suggested, “You know, David, there are various ways you can earn some extra money to save for the soccer shoes. Many of our neighbors are looking for someone to help with lawn mowing (刈草坪) and other services. Some even need help with newspaper delivery. You can offer your services and earn money that way.”
David’s eyes lit up as he realized the potential.
The day of Tom’s birthday finally arrived, and David couldn’t wait to surprise his best friend.

David’s eves lit up as he realized the potential. “You’re right, Mom! I can mow the lawn and do other jobs for the neighbors to save up the money. It’s a great idea!” David took his mother’s advice to heart and decided to use his weekends productively. He offered lawn-mowing services, and even took on a newspaper delivery job. With each task completed, he was one step closer to achieving his goal of buying the soccer shoes for Tom. The thought of how close he was to making Tom’s wish come true filled him with enthusiasm.
The day of Tom’s birthday finally arrived, and David couldn’t wait to surprise his best friend. At school, David presented the gift to Tom. “Happy birthday, Tom,” he said with a wide smile. Tom, surprised and curious, eagerly tore open the wrapping paper. His eyes widened with astonishment when he saw the pair of new soccer shoes. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Tom said, “David, you did this for me? I can’t believe it! Thank you so much!” Tears of joy welled up in his eyes and he hugged his best friend. And David was so happy he finally made his friend’s dream come true.

Dear Chris, Last Friday, our class held an event named “Reading A Book Together”, which was popular in my school. During the event, we took turns to discuss the book that we read, including its theme, complex character relationships and plot.It was fascinating to hear diverse perspectives! This experience significantly deepened my appreciation for literature. I particularly enjoyed the sharing of various perspectives on character analysis, which enabled me to critically appreciate the classic work. Most importantly, the relaxing exchange boosted my confidence in voicing my own insights. If you were here, you would love it too. I hope we have the chance to read a book together. Best wishes!

The icy wind howled across the empty street and it was an unusually quiet day in the emergency room on December 25th. Quiet, that is, except for the nurses who were standing around the nurses’ station complaining about having to work on Christmas Day, for people were supposed to be spending time with their families, exchanging gifts and wishes. I was guiding nurse that day and had just done clean-up in the waiting room. Since there were no patients waiting to be seen at the time, I returned to the nurses’ station for a cup of hot coffee that someone had brought in for Christmas. Just then, a colleague came back and told me I had five patients waiting to be evaluated. I was surprised, “Five, how did I get five; I was just out there and no one was in the waiting room.” “Well, there are five signed in.” So I went straight out and called the first name. Five bodies showed up at my guiding desk, a pale short woman and four small children in untidy clothing.“Are you all sick?” I asked suspiciously. “Yes,” she said weakly and lowered her head.
“Okay,” I replied, unconvinced, “Who’s first?” One by one they sat down, and I asked the usual beginning questions. When it came to the descriptions of their symptoms, things got a little vague. Two of the children had headaches, but the headaches weren’t accompanied by the normal body language of holding the head or trying to keep it still. Two children had earaches, but only one could tell me which ear was affected. The mother complained of a cough, but seemed to work to produce it. Something was wrong with the picture. Our hospital policy, however, was not to turn away any patient, so we would see them. When I explained to the mother that it might be a little while before a doctor saw her because there were several more critical patients. She responded, “Take your time; it’s warm in here and there is a Christmas tree.”
Then she turned and, with a smile, settled her kids in the waiting room.My colleagues, complaining about working Christmas, turned to sympathy for the homeless family.

Then she turned and, with a smile, settled her kids in the waiting room. Though warm, it was uncomfortable for children, who nestled closely by the Christmas tree. The youngest kid was staring at gifts on the tree, exclaiming something to her mother. Unfortunately, she was met with refusal, which failed her to hold back tears. Guilty and upset, great sorrow clouded the mother. The rest froze, with eyes falling on their little sister. Realizing they were homeless, I went back and told my colleagues what had happened.
My colleagues, complaining about working Christmas, turned to sympathy for the homeless family. Soon we were busy preparing presents for our unexpected guests, who just wanted to stay warm on Christmas Day. With gifts in hand, the kids were wild with joy. A flush of happiness filled the waiting room and we were able to locate a shelter that would take the family in. As they were leaving, the mother hugged each us and whispered, “You’re our angels and it’s your love warms us up! As they disappeared into the far distance gradually, a strong sense of satisfaction poured into my mind. While I didn’t celebrate the festival with my loved ones, I extended warmth to the homeless family. Sometimes, only a little kindness can light something shining, making the world more beautiful and harmonious.

Dear Peter, Last week, our school successfully held a “Time-Travel Fashion Show,” which was a fantastic display of Chinese garments from different times in history.Of all the costumes, what impressed me most was the elegant Hanfu, known for its loose, flowing sleeves and a broad belt. The colors are typically soft and elegant, with patterns including classic Chinese elements such as dragons, phoenixes, and blossoms. Crafted from materials like silk or linen, Hanfu offers a comfortable and graceful look. The event truly deepened my appreciation for the rich heritage and diversity of Chinese culture. It was an honor to be part of such a remarkable and memorable occasion. Welcome to experience Hanfu in person.Best wishes. Yours, Li Hua

It was a Saturday morning when I decided to take a walk around the neighborhood. As I passed by the park, something caught my eye — a small dog, curled up alone beneath a bench.
Its fur was messy. It had no collar, and no energy left to bark. But the way it looked at me — quiet, trusting — made me stop.
I knelt down slowly and offered my hand. The dog didn’t move away. After a moment, it gave my fingers a small lick (舔).
I looked around. No one in sight. I waited a few minutes, but no owner appeared. Then I thought of my daughter, Lucy.
Lucy had dreamed of having a dog for as long as I could remember. She kept a “dream dog” journal filled with sketches, names, and care tips. Her bookshelves were packed with dog books. Every birthday wish was the same: “Just a dog. Any kind. I’ll love him forever.”
So I gently picked up the little dog and carried him home.
When Lucy opened the door, she gasped. “Is he really … ours?”
“I found him in the park,” I said. “No tags, no collar. I thought we could give him a safe place.”
Tears welled up in her eyes. “Thank you, Dad.” she whispered.
Lucy named him Toby. That afternoon, she threw herself into taking care of him. She gave him a warm bath, brushed every knot (结) out of his fur, and laid a soft blanket in the sunniest spot of the house.
She spoke to him gently, read him stories, and played soft music to help him relax. She offered treats, squeaky toys, and cuddles. Every few minutes, she whispered, “It’s okay now. You’re safe. We love you.”
But no matter what she did, Toby stayed distant. He ate, but without excitement. He barely looked at Lucy — his eyes always drifting (漂移) back to the window, watching, waiting.
By evening Lucy’s smile had faded.
“He’s not happy,” she finally said. “I think he misses someone. Someone he loves.”
“We have to try to find his real home,” Lucy said, and her voice was strong but a little sad.
As Toby ran straight into his owner, Lucy stood still, watching.
“We have to try to find his real home,” Lucy said, and her voice was strong but a little sad. Even though she had wanted a dog for a long, long time, she knew that Toby really belonged with his first family. The next morning, we printed “Found Dog” posters. Then we went all around the neighborhood, to the local food store, and to the community boards. We put up these posters everywhere. Also, Lucy shared Toby’s story on the Internet, hoping that someone would know who he was. Two days later, we got a phone call. A woman said she was the owner of the dog.So we met in the park where I met Toby.As Toby ran straight into her owner, Lucy stood still, watching. Tears ran down the woman’s face as she hugged Toby tightly and said “thank you” many times. Lucy’s eyes were wet, too, but she had a brave and happy smile. Then, the woman, moved by Lucy’s kindness, asked if Lucy wanted to come to see Toby sometimes. Lucy nodded quickly, and a big, real smile came to her face. Even though she couldn’t keep Toby, this experience taught her a lot. She learned that true love means letting go without being selfish, and she made a new friend because of this.

Hi, everyone! I am happy here to share our experience in making a video of Sharing My Hometown.
To start with, we had a heated discussion and made a plan carefully. After that, we made every effort to collect information in different ways. For example, we talked to our elders, who told us stories about traditional food and famous people. Using the information we had collected, we created an English video, which was later chosen as one of the best works to introduce our hometown. From this experience, we have gained a lot. Above all, we now understand our local culture better. In addition, our English has improved greatly. Last but not least, we’ve realized how important good teamwork is! Thanks for your listening!

Also, please submit your work to the English club before Friday.

They hiked down well and fast, but suddenly Mike slipped and hurt his ankle. They had to stop because Mike’s left ankle swelled up and it hurt a lot when he put his left foot on the ground. It was just then that the rain got heavier, and their limbs were numb with cold. To make matters worse, the dim light made it hard for them to recognize the trail, which would increase the danger if they continued. A wave of fear and anxiety swept over the boys. “What should we do?” Mike cried out in a trembling voice. After some thought, Ali came up with an idea. He put Mike on his back with Henry keeping them balanced beside them and Jack leading the way. And they took turns to carry Mike if one felt tired. The cold rain was pounding on them, and sweat dripped down their cheeks, but they dared not stop because they were fully aware that the later it got, the more challenges and dangers they might meet. They were racing against time! They took every step cautiously, and finally they reached the bottom of the mountain safely.

Good morning, my fellow students, Today, I am here to introduce to you the plan for our upcoming activities on the occasion of this year’s World Earth Day, with the theme of “Earth for All”. The activities will take place on the World Earth Day, which falls on April 22nd. We have planned various activities to raise awareness about environmental protection and the importance of preserving our planet. We will organize a campus cleanup and hold an environmental awareness campaign. We will work together to pick up litter, separate recyclable materials, and clean our school environment.By participating in these activities, we will learn the importance of environmental conservation and develop a sense of responsibility towards our planet’s well-being. Thank you for your attention.
Incredibly, four passers-by responded and came to our rescue. They were passengers on a trip. All those people were shocked by seeing us on the steep cliff. We tried to thank them but they signed that it was unnecessary. They all encouraged us not to give up but also expressed some concern about how we had got in such a dangerous place. With the help of these passers-by, we carefully walked back up to the highway.
Reaching the highway, we were loaded into the ambulance. Treatment from doctors and nurses made us relieved and we felt lucky to escape with minor injuries. The experience on the mountain cliff was very frightening, but these random strangers who stopped to help us made us both realize that there was still kindness in the world. We are small as a human being but we are strong when we help each other.
