A new program in London will soon start giving away unsold theater tickets to those who couldn’t afford them. Called the Ticket Bank, it will aim to give out 1, 000 tickets per week to theater, dance, music and comedy shows. The tickets will be free.
The Ticket Bank is an arts-oriented variation on the food bank: giving donations to those in need. The program will launch on January 9th.
“There are brilliant people putting together food banks, but that doesn’t give people their basic needs from a soul point of view,” said Chris Sonnex who put forward the idea. “People who are suffering as a result of the cost of living also need access to entertainment and things that warm the soul. Art is a human right.”
The program is focused on the increasing cost of living which puts cultural experiences out of reach for more and more people. It also aims to help cultural institutions like theaters, which have seen reducing audiences due to economic crises.
The Cultural Philanthropy Foundation, an organization aiming to “democratize (使民主化) access to culture”, wanted to help make the project happen. “Rarely do you come across an idea that is so simple and brilliant that you can’t believe it doesn’t already exist,” Caroline McCormick, the foundation’s chair, said. “When Chris Sonnex told me his idea for the Ticket Bank, my response was as simple as his idea: We have to make this happen.”
Seven theaters have agreed to participate in it. Another seven will be announced in January. “Everybody’s seen the value, and everyone wants to make it work,” McCormick said. A group of London and United Kingdom-based partners will ensure the tickets reach people and communities in need.
“While a million different barriers make accessing the arts difficult, one of the biggest is ticket prices,” Sonnex said. “It’s important to reach as many people as possible to say: This is for you.”
4. What is the purpose of the Ticket Bank?
A. To give donations and money to those in need.
B. To offer theater, music and comedy shows to the poor.
C. To sell daily goods to those who love to go to theaters.
D. To provide free theater tickets for those that can’t afford them.
5. Why did Chris Sonnex come up with the program?
A. He wanted to meet people’s basic needs.
B. The poor needed more food and care.
C. He thought people needed encouragement.
D. The poor needed spiritual things that warm the soul.
6. What is Caroline McCormick’s attitude towards the idea?
A. Favorable. B. Neutral. C. Doubtful. D. Negative.
7. What is the suitable title for the text?
A. Food bank— giving basic need of soul.
B. The theater — satisfying people’s spirit.
C. Ticket Bank — making art appreciation easier.
D. London foundation — bringing culture to life.

During the Spring Festival, Ne Zha 2 has become a phenomenon-level animated film, with cinema attendance rate reaching over 90%. When Ne Zha and Ao Bing had a fierce battle with Infinite Immortal, the vivid sound effects made me feel as if I were right there on the scene. Suddenly, a question popped into my mind: How were these impressive sounds created? Out of curiosity, I started searching back home and then entered the mysterious world of Foley artists.
The term Foley was coined in memory of Jack Foley and his contribution to the art of sound effects. When sound effects were first added into movies he innovated a unique way of creating sound effects, recording sounds onto a single track of audio and adding them to actions happening on the screen accordingly.
Foley artists are like magicians of sound, adding vitality to films. In general, attention to detail is fundamental to successful Foley artists. They also need to have the ability to recreate sounds themselves, which requires creativity and imagination. Getting the perfect sound requires trial and error, which is why patience and persistence are equally important. Even though Foley artists often work behind the scenes, their cooperation with actors is crucial to capturing the essence of a film. “You have to act the scene…You have to be the actors and get into the spirit of the story the same as the actors did, on the set. It makes a big difference,” Jack Foley once stressed.
As I was digging deep, titles like “Fewer than 100 Foley Artists Remain Active Worldwide” indeed struck me hard. I stumbled upon the sad truth that while Foley work is an incredible addition to movies, the small number of working artists today may put it on the path to becoming a dying art. However, Foley work, to my relief, may change as virtual reality develops. Next time you’re watching a movie, remember those subtle sounds. They are like secret messages from Foley artists, reminding us they’re always there.
8. What contribution did Jack Foley make to the film industry?
A. He invented recording equipment. B. He pioneered sound effect creation.
C. He advanced live recording methods. D. He improved background music.
9. What did Jack Foley value most?
A. Being sensitive to details. B. Practising trial and error.
C. Stimulating active imagination. D. Being at one with actors.
10. What does the last paragraph imply?
A. Foley work may be redefined in the future.
B. Foley artists may soon be replaced by virtual reality.
C. Modern audiences are well aware of Foley work.
D. Foley work is no longer a must as technology develops.
11. What is the writing purpose of the text?
A. To explore the reasons for Ne Zha 2’s success.
B. To persuade readers to engage in Foley work.
C. To discuss the challenges Foley work will face.
D. To introduce Foley work and its significance.
【答案】8. B 9. D 10. A 11. D

Having worked in the AI field for over a decade, Zhang Qiang never imagined his expertise would intersect with jiandu — China’s 3,000-year-old bamboo and wooden slips — until he and his team developed DeepJiandu, the world’s first large-scale dataset dedicated to character recognition for these cultural relics. Regarded as China’s earliest form of books, jiandu served as a bridge in the evolution of Chinese writing — from oracle bone (甲骨文) and bronze inscriptions to later paper documents.
Unlike existing tools designed to detect readable characters on ancient paper documents, DeepJiandu was created specifically to tackle the challenges of deciphering (辨认) jiandu characters under complex conditions, such as characters of varying sizes from different dynasties, connected strokes in ancient handwriting, and characters damaged or faded by natural elements — issues deemed the “most common yet unavoidable” in jiandu preservation.
To aid researchers in studying jiandu, the DeepJiandu dataset offers 7,416 infrared (红外线的) images generated from scans of over 40,000 physical jiandu samples. The team analyzed individual samples to produce nearly 100,000 annotations (评注). Though seemingly minor, these annotations “significantly clarify character meanings,” enabling even novices to interpret jiandu contents.
The team’s vision of an open-source “lexicon” for jiandu predates the dataset itself. In June 2024, they launched an even more comprehensive data-sharing platform dedicated to jiandu relics, supported by Northwest Normal University.
Museums are leveraging technology to enhance visitor engagement. For instance, the Changsha Jiandu Museum in Hunan — home to over 100,000 Wu Kingdom jiandu pieces — uses AR-enabled picture books with QR codes to illustrate historical narratives. Similarly, the Gansu Jiandu Museum employs AI-guided robots named “Jian” and “Du” to interact with visitors. As museum director Zhu Jianjun notes, these digital innovations exemplify China’s integration of technology and cultural preservation, bridging ancient texts with modern tools to make jiandu accessible to all.
12. What can we learn about jiandu from the first paragraph?
A. It served as a transitional medium for Chinese writing.
B. It totally replaced oracle bone and bronze inscriptions.
C. It was mainly used for artistic purposes in ancient times.
D. It was made of wood clips with a history of 5000 years old.
13. What technical features help DeepJiandu address character recognition problems?
A. Bronze inscription comparison tools.
B. Interactive robots with voice guidance.
C. Infrared images and detailed explanations.
D. AR picture books with QR code scanning.
14. What does the underlined word “lexicon” in paragraph 4 probably refer to?
A. A collection of ancient relics. B. A standardized writing system.
C. A digital preservation technique. D. A reference database for characters.
15. Why are the museums in Changsha and Gansu mentioned?
A. To emphasize jiandu’s commercial value. B. To highlight tech-based educational system.
C. To promote traditional museum practices. D. To compare regional preservation policies.
【答案】12. A 13. C 14. D 15. B

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Who wants to show us your special project first?” Mrs. Williams asked my class. For this project, we were allowed to do anything as long as we did it ourselves.
“Don’t call on me. Don’t call on me.” I talked to myself. “Michael, your project, please.” Michael, that was me. I swallowed the baseball-sized lump in my throat and stood up. Jayce, my deskmate, whispered some words of encouragement to me, saying, “Go for it.” I walked to the front of the class and set my birdhouse on the table. “This is my birdhouse,” I began. “I looked online for plans to build it. Then I designed it by myself. My dad cut four pieces of wood using the measurements I gave him for the walls.” I turned the birdhouse to show my class all four sides.
Luka’s hand shot up. We were supposed to take questions if anyone had them. Luka was my friend, but he always asked a billion questions. I looked at the clock above the class door, just wanted to finish and sit down.
“So if your dad cut the wood, what did you do?” he asked. The lump in my throat was now the size of a basketball. “I came up with the idea and talked with my dad about it. And I figured out how to nail the roof so I can clean out the house after the birds leave.” I lifted the roof to show everyone. “Then I nailed all the walls together.” I picked up the heavy hammer (锤子) I had borrowed from Dad. I had left one of the nails sticking out a little so I could demonstrate.
As I gave the nail a hit, the hammer came down on the roof instead of the nail. The birdhouse landed in a noisy pile (堆) at my feet. There was a loud gasp (倒抽气), and then nobody spoke. “I wanted to show you how to build a birdhouse — and how to take it apart,” I said, thinking fast. “As you can see, I did it all myself.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The class broke into laughter and then started clapping for me!
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
When I got home, Dad was shocked when he saw a pile of wood in my schoolbag.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
The class broke into laughter and then started clapping for me! “Fascinating project, Michael. Real builders know accidents happen,” Mrs. Williams said, coming towards me. She was smiling so big that all her teeth showed. “Are you all right?” she asked me under her breath. I nodded. As I walked to my seat, Jayce gave me a high five. “Wow. That was almost a disaster, but you handled it so well!” he said. Looking at the birdhouse, I held my head high. I couldn’t wait to tell my dad the good news!
When I got home, Dad was shocked when he saw a pile of wood in my schoolbag. I told him how the birdhouse fell apart and how I reacted. Dad laughed heartily and said, “Son, you were really brave. The important thing is that you keep calm and never give up.” Inspired by his words, I determined to rebuild the birdhouse. This time, with Dad’s guidance, I cut the wood myself, hammered the nails firmly, and finally completed a better birdhouse. Looking at the newly-made birdhouse, I realized that this experience was about learning to persevere in the face of setbacks, and the value of family support in the journey of self-improvement.

The Cultural Philanthropy Foundation an organization aiming to “democratize (使民主化) access to culture”, wanted to help make the project happen.
C
During the Spring Festival, Ne Zha 2 has become a phenomenon-level animated film, with cinema attendance rate reaching over 90%. When Ne Zha and Ao Bing had a fierce battle with Infinite Immortal, the vivid sound effects made me feel as if I were right there on the scene. Suddenly, a question popped into my mind: How were these impressive sounds created? Out of curiosity, I started searching back home and then entered the mysterious world of Foley artists.
The term Foley was coined in memory of Jack Foley and his contribution to the art of sound effects. When sound effects were first added into movies, he innovated a unique way of creating sound effects, recording sounds onto a single track of audio and adding them to actions happening on the screen accordingly.
C Modern audiences are well aware of Foley work.
C A digital preservation technique. D. A reference database for characters.
15. Why are the museums in Changsha and Gansu mentioned?
A. To emphasize jiandu’s commercial value. B. To highlight tech-based educational system.
C. To promote traditional museum practices. D. To compare regional preservation policies.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
