Bobby was getting cold sitting out in his backyard in the snow. Bobby didn蒺t wear shoes; he
didn蒺t like them and anyway he was a poor boy. And, try as he might, he could not come up with
an idea for his mother蒺s Christmas gift. Ever since his father had passed away three years ago, the
family of five had struggled. Although the family was short of money and material things, they
had love and family unity
(
团结
)
.
Bobby had three sisters, who did the housework for their mother. All three of his sisters had
already made beautiful gifts for their mother. Wiping tears from his eyes, Bobby kicked the snow
and started to walk down to the street where the shops and stores opened. It was starting to get
dark and Bobby turned to walk home when suddenly he discovered a shiny dime
(
十分硬币
)
on
the street.
As he held his newfound treasure, a feeling of warmth spread throughout his entire body and
he walked into the first store he saw. His excitement quickly turned cold when salesperson after
salesperson told him that he could not buy anything with only a dime. Finally he saw a flower
shop and went inside to wait in line. When the shop owner asked if he could help him, Bobby
presented the dime and asked if he could buy one flower for his mother. The shop owner looked
at Bobby and his dime. Then he put his hand on Bobby蒺s shoulder and said to him,
“
You just
wait here and I蒺ll see what I can do for you.
”
Then the shop owner left. All alone in the shop,
Bobby began to feel alone and afraid. After a little while, the shop owner came out and moved to
the counter
(
柜台
)
. There were twelve red roses, with leaves of green and tiny white flowers all
tied together with a big silver bow.

Paragraph 1: Suddenly, Jim went ahead of Tim. The crowd cheered for him. Soon, it was clear that Jim was going to

Of course Bobby was very

“
Yes, I like them.

that man right away and I gave my best twelve red roses to him.

One possible version:
The idea of sustainable development has been accepted by the world. How to keep sustainable development is a big
problem facing our planet.
The present situation is worrying. First, natural resources are becoming less than before. Second, as some people are not
aware of the importance of the environmental protection, the problems with it remain extremely serious to some degree. The
gap between the rich and the poor has the tendency to become wider and wider.
To our great joy, many countries have taken action. On one hand, they have made relevant laws and regulations and put
large amounts of money to the environmental protection. On the other hand, popularized education as well as international
cooperation is being carried out.
As for myself, I should take the responsibility to devote myself to sustainable development, or our future and the lives
of our children and our grandchildren will be in danger.
