Letters from Father Christmas tells us that as well as enjoying the adventures of Father
Christmas, Polar Bear and other characters at the North Pole, we can all share the true spirit of

indeed have been the real Father Christmas.

Last week, my sister and I were talking about how many of our friends had phones. My
sister said she thought it was dumb that kids in high school had them, especially taking the
phones to school, since most of your friends were at school anyway. As she said,
“
Why would
they call you when they could see you in class?
”
I agreed with her. I mean, it蒺s not likely that
your friends are going to call you when you蒺re in class!
But the next day after school, when two of her friends came over to our house, my sister told
her friends she thought taking a phone to school was totally cool and she couldn蒺t wait to get one.
When I reminded her that just the evening before she thought taking a phone to school was a
dumb idea, she stared at me and if looks could kill, I蒺d be dead!
When her friends left, I asked her if she really had changed her mind about wanting a phone
to take to school.
“
No,
”
she said.
“
But both of my friends have phones and take them to school,
so I didn蒺t want to tell them that I thought it was a dumb idea.
”
You see, my sister just told her friends what she thought they wanted to hear. I think my
sister works way too hard to fit in with her friends. Personally, I don蒺t want to work that hard to
have friends. I mean, what would be so terrible about my sister believing one thing about kids
having phones and her friends believing something different? Besides, when your friends know
where you stand in terms of how you feel or what you think is cool or uncool, they respect you.
At least show respect for yourself by sticking up for what you believe in. And even if they don蒺t
agree with you, good friends will think you蒺re cool for being true to yourself.

Dear Alex,
I蒺m glad to receive your letter. When it comes to the fine qualities a good friend should have, I蒺d like to express my
opinion.
First of all, a good friend should be honest, which is the most important. Honesty is where good friendship starts. Se鄄
condly, a good friend should respect others, including their space and personal items. What蒺s more, he or she must learn to
forgive others. After all, anyone can make mistakes.
Would you like to share your idea about this topic? I蒺m looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Dear Mr. White,
I蒺m Li Hua, an exchange student from China. I蒺m writing to apply to join the club.
First of all, I am an animal lover and familiar with animals living habits. Secondly, I蒺d like to make every effort to let
more people be aware of the significance of protecting animals. Last but not least, I蒺m out going, so I have confidence in my
abilities to call on more people to take measures to protect animals. I would appreciate it very much if you could consider
my application.
