Before we start today's lesson, I want to share something interesting with you. Look at the big screen. (Showing a picture of the teacher's family trip on the screen) This is a photo I took during my last family trip. In this photo, we are all having a great time at the beach. Can you see how happy we look? Now, I would like to hear from you. Who can share one of your favorite photos with the class? Just briefly tell us what's in the photo. Student 1: I have a photo of my dog. It's lying on the grass, looking so cute. Student 2: I have a photo of my school sports day. I'm running in the race, and my friends are cheering for me. Teacher: Wonderful! Photos really capture precious moments in our lives. Now, let's turn to our new lesson in Module 11, Unit 2. The title of our text is "The photo which we liked best was taken by Zhao Min". First, let's learn some new words and phrases. Please look at the screen. (Showing new words and phrases on the screen: tonight, read out, winner, compared with, even though, rush, blouse, skirt, present) Teacher: Let's read these words and phrases together. Follow me. (Reading the words and phrases slowly, and students repeat after the teacher) Now, let's have a closer look at some of them. "Tonight" means this evening. For example, we are going to have a party tonight. "Read out" means to read something aloud. We will read out the winners' names later. "Winner" is the person who wins a competition. And "compared with" is used when we want to show the difference between two things. For example, Compared with last year, I have made much more progress in English. "Even though" means although. Even though it was raining, we still went to the park. "Rush" means to move quickly. She rushed to the door when she heard the bell. "Blouse" is a kind of shirt for women, and "skirt" is a piece of clothing that women and girls wear. "Present" here means to give something to someone. The headmaster will present the prizes to the winners. Now, I want you to read these words and phrases again by yourselves for a few minutes and try to remember them. (Students read the words and phrases on their own) Teacher: Time's up. Let's do a little quiz to see if you remember the words. I'll describe a word or a phrase, and you tell me what it is. Ready? The first one. It means this evening. Students: Tonight. Teacher: Correct. Next one. It's a person who wins a competition. Students: Winner. Teacher: Great. Now, a phrase that means to read something aloud. Students: Read out. Teacher: Perfect. Let's move on to the text. First, I will play the recording of the text. Listen carefully and try to get a general idea of what it is about. (Playing the recording of the text) Teacher: Now, who can tell me what the text is mainly about? Student 3: It's about a photo competition, like who the winners are and which photos are the best. Teacher: Exactly! You got the main point. Now, let's read the text together paragraph by paragraph and analyze it in detail. In the first paragraph, it says "Tonight I am more than happy to read out the winners of the photo competition." Here, "more than happy" means very happy. So, the speaker is extremely glad to announce the winners. What do you think this part is for? Student 4: It's like an introduction to start talking about the photo competition results. Teacher: Right. It sets the scene. Now, let's look at the second paragraph. "Compared with other years, we received many more photos." What does this sentence tell us? Student 5: It tells us that there are more photos in this year's competition than before. Teacher: Very good. And then it says "Even though all of the photos are excellent, we are sorry to say that we cannot give prizes to everyone." What's the function of "even though" here? Student 6: It shows that although all the photos are great, not everyone can get a prize. Teacher: Exactly. "Even though" is used to introduce a contrast. Now, let's focus on the sentences with "which" and "who". Look at this sentence "The photo which we liked best in the City and People group was taken by Zhao Min." Here, "which we liked best" is an attributive clause. It modifies the word "photo", telling us which specific photo it is. Can you find another sentence with an attributive clause in the text? Student 7: "He is the boy who won the photo competition last year." Teacher: Right. In this sentence, "who won the photo competition last year" is an attributive clause. It describes the boy, telling us what special about him. Now, let's do an activity. I will show you some sentences, and you need to identify the attributive clauses and tell me what they modify. (Showing sentences on the screen: The book which I bought yesterday is very interesting. The girl who is wearing a red dress is my sister. The car which is parked outside is mine.) Teacher: Let's start with the first sentence. Who wants to have a try? Student 8: "which I bought yesterday" is the attributive clause, and it modifies "book". Teacher: Perfect. Now, the second sentence. Student 9: "who is wearing a red dress" is the attributive clause, and it modifies "girl". Teacher: Well done. And the last one. Student 10: "which is parked outside" is the attributive clause, and it modifies "car". Teacher: Great job, everyone. Now, let's work in pairs. Each pair takes out a photo (students are asked to bring a photo before class). Use attributive clauses to describe your photo to your partner. For example, if your photo is of a cat, you can say "This is a cat which is lying on the mat." Start now. (Students work in pairs, describing their photos to each other) Teacher: Time's up. Let's share some of your descriptions. Which pair wants to come to the front and show your photo and describe it? Pair 1: (Showing a photo of a birthday party) This is a photo of my birthday party. The cake which is on the table looks very delicious. And the people who are singing are my friends. Teacher: Very good. You used the attributive clauses correctly and described the photo vividly. Now, let's go back to the text. Let's read it again and complete the table on page 90. This table asks us to find out information about the winners, the photos they took, and the reasons why their photos won. Work in groups of four to complete it. (Students work in groups to complete the table) Teacher: Let's check the answers. Group 1, please tell us your answers for the first row of the table. Group 1: The winner in the City and People group is Zhao Min. The photo she took shows a person rushing across a street on a windy evening. The reason it won is that it shows a moment of real life. Teacher: Are there any different opinions from other groups? Okay, now Group 2, your answers for the second row. (The process continues until all groups have shared their answers) Teacher: Well done, everyone. Now, let's do a listening exercise. I will play a short conversation about a photo. Listen carefully and answer the questions on the screen. (Playing the listening material) Teacher: Time's up. Let's check the answers. For the first question, who can tell me the answer? Student 11: The photo was taken in the park. Teacher: Correct. And the second question? (The teacher continues to check the answers for all the questions) Teacher: Now, for our last activity today, we are going to hold a small photo exhibition in our class. Each group needs to choose one of the photos you brought and make a short presentation about it. You need to include information like what's in the photo, who took it, and why you think it's a good photo. You can use attributive clauses and all the knowledge we learned today. You have 10 minutes to prepare. Then each group will come to the front and present. Start preparing. (Students work in groups to prepare their presentations) Teacher: Time's up. Let's start our photo exhibition. Group 1, please come to the front and present your photo. Group 1: (Coming to the front, showing a photo) This is a photo which was taken in the mountains. The person who took this photo is my dad. In the photo, we can see a beautiful view of the mountains. There are trees which are green and tall. We think this photo is good because it shows the beauty of nature. Teacher: Wonderful presentation. You really used the knowledge well. Now, Group 2, it's your turn. (Each group takes turns to present their photo) Teacher: Today, we have learned a lot about photos, new words, phrases, and especially how to use attributive clauses. For your homework, I want you to write a short passage about your favorite photo. You should include at least three attributive clauses. Describe the photo in detail and tell us why you like it. Remember to use correct grammar and neat handwriting. You can hand it in tomorrow. That's all for today's class. See you next time! 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
